6 Available Posts for Placement 9 The posts available for placement of successful 2014 YPP candidates include: All Secretariat positions at P-1 and P-2 levels established through: the regular budget, excluding language posts, and up to 15 per cent of positions at P-1 and P-2 levels in field operations financed through the regular budget as well as through voluntary contributions

Candidates are encouraged to apply as early as possible

11 Admission Eligibility 1 6 Nationality: Must hold the nationality of a participating Member State at the time of application Age: 32 years or younger (Date of birth: On or after 1 January 1983) Education: First-level university degree acceptable for each job family Language: Fluency in English or French Experience: No experience required

12 Create An Application 1 7 Candidates need to apply through inspira following instructions provided on the UN Careers Portal Applicants will receive an application number immediately after submitting their applications Important: Incomplete, incorrect field of study and/or late applications will NOT be considered ALL Convocation status updates will be available on UN Careers Portal

13 Application Screening 1 8 If more than 40 qualified applicants from the same participating Member State in the same job family, they will be scored by these criteria: Degree: Additional and/or higher-level degrees acceptable for the job family Experience: Length of work experience acceptable for the job family Language: Fluency in additional official languages of the United Nations

14 2015 YPP Examination 1 9 The 2015 written examination will take place on: 15 December 2015

15 Holding the written Exam 2 0 Exam centres can be opened when 15 or more candidates register for a particular exam centre In such cases Member States are invited to organize the examination venue and provide helpers for exam on the exam day (1 per 40 candidates) Member States cover costs for examination venue (e.g. possible rent) and the helpers during exam UN Secretariat will send a senior staff to support Member States by supervising the exam at the venue

16 The Examination 2 1 Specialized Paper: Multiple choice items and constructed response items in the substantive area, to be answered in any of the UN official languages. Each part of this paper will be eliminatory General Paper: Summary, to be written in either English or French The overall time for the written examination is 4.5 hours Examinees are fully responsible for any expenses related to their travel to the examination centre Oral Examination: Competency-based interview and possibly an oral presentation UN Secretariat will use online video conferencing tools to reduce the travel cost

17 Results and Placement 2 2 Successful candidates will be eligible for consideration for positions at the P-1 or P-2 level in any Secretariat duty station or peacekeeping operation Placement exercise conducted centrally 4 times a year The list has a lifespan of two years from the beginning of the first quarterly placement taking place following the conclusion of the examination cycle Candidates refusing to participate in the placement exercise will be removed from the list

18 How Member States can support candidates The more active Member States are involved the higher the chances to succeed Engage with candidates convoked for oral exam 3. Follow-up with successful candidates Ensure candidates are ready for oral exam Increase # applicants taking written exam Help applicants to prepare for exam 1. 19 1. Local outreach is highly effective in attracting qualified candidates 2 5 Member States can use any of below channels to draw attention to YPP exam: Local newspapers advertisements Ministry of Foreign Affairs website Permanent Mission website Link to on any Radio broadcasts TV spots

Following up with candidates to help them prepare and sit for the written exam 2 6 ETS will send the contacts of nationals* who are convoked for the written YPP exam to respective Member States Member States can stay in touch with applicants to help them prepare and encourage them to take the Contact Candidates Provide Information Show Support to Candidates *for candidates that will agree to contact sharing
