2 Study with the Chartered Quality Institute CQI qualifications Having a professional qualification is becoming a prerequisite for quality professionals, as industry recognises the need for individuals with demonstrated competence in quality management. Completing a CQI qualification indicates to employers that you have mastered the knowledge and skills to deploy the quality management approaches that make business better. CQI qualifications are nationally and internationally recognised for good reason: The CQI is the only awarding body dedicated to quality management qualifications in the UK, recognised by Ofqual CQI qualifications are benchmarked against the Body of Quality Knowledge CQI qualifications lead to recognition by the CQI as a Chartered Quality Professional CQI Certificate in Quality A qualification equivalent to NVQ Level 3 devised for those who require an introduction to quality or those looking for a refresher course. 3 CQI Diploma in Quality What is the CQI Diploma in Quality? The CQI Diploma in Quality is designed to equip you with the ability to apply quality assurance and management skills within the workplace. The Diploma is made up of seven separate modules, including two electives, and you complete six modules in total. Each module (except the quality project) consists of two components: an assignment and written examination. The modules are as follows: Principles of quality and data analysis This module gives an understanding of the principles of quality, exploring its relationship to the design, manufacture and use of products and services. It aims to: provide an understanding of quality concepts develop an appreciation of the need for quality and its control provide an understanding of basic terminology and statistical methods used in quality Quality management This module develops your understanding of the management principles, disciplines and techniques involved in quality within an organisation, in order to enable you to: evaluate the human dimension of an organisation recommend improvements of audit programmes to given standards apply quality management methods to all activities in the organisation Tools and techniques This module provides an understanding of quality tools and techniques and their importance in the design, manufacture and use of products and services, aiming to teach you how to: evaluate and recommend tools and techniques appraise the effectiveness of individual applications to specific circumstances recommend the applicability of tools and techniques of quality Communication and project management The first half of this module enhances your ability to become a more effective communicator. The second half introduces the techniques and applications of project management to: develop the transferable skills of communication and presentation provide an understanding of how quality methods can be used in project management apply project management quality standards

We recommend you complete at least three other Diploma modules, of which one should be Communication and project management, before starting the project. You must also complete one of the following CQI Diploma elective modules: Quality and environmental management This module provides you with an understanding of the interactions of quality management systems and environmental management systems, and their application in industry. Information technology and quality management This module provides an understanding of the application of information technology within quality management systems. 5 CQI Certificate in Quality What is the CQI Certificate in Quality? The CQI Certificate in Quality is a professional qualification designed to provide students with the underpinning knowledge required for any role in quality. The course is divided into three mandatory modules: Customers, clients and markets This module is assignment based and provides an understanding of quality concepts, terminology and an appreciation of the value of customers, clients and markets. Principles of data analysis This module is assignment based and provides an understanding of the statistical methods used in quality, including reliability and variability. Models, standards and laws This module is assessed by external examination. It gives an appreciation of the need for standardisation and introduces the legal issues related to quality. What the CQI Certificate gives you A professional qualification that shows employers you are serious about quality The opportunity to become an Associate member of the CQI and continue your learning The fundamental skills and knowledge to improve your performance and the performance of your organisation You can study the CQI Certificate or Diploma on a part-time or distance learning basis through our growing network of education centres.
