Managerial decision making for planning, organizing, staffing, directing and controlling the functions, operations and resources of a health information department. Prerequisites: HSC 230, 298A03, 345 and 346. Major only. IT 376 WIRELESS AND MOBILE NETWORK SECURITY (3 sem. hrs.) (Revise the prerequisites) Overview of fundamental principles and security algorithms of security in wireless networks. Emphasis is on application, design, and analysis. (Change the department A study of how people in organizations respond to managerial and organizational practices, using a systems orientation to analyze how environmental factors influence organizational practices and climate. Topics include reactions of people to structure and control, problems of motivation and performance, resolution of inter-departmental conflicts, adaptation to change. Formerly MQM 421. Prerequisite: MQM 402 or equivalent. MBA 427 OPERATIONS AND QUALITY MANAGEMENT (3 sem. hrs.) (Change the department Course focus is on strategies, concepts, and tools for management of quality and the core function of producing goods and services. Formerly MQM 427. Prerequisite: MQM 406 or equivalent. MBA 430 ADVANCED MARKETING MANAGEMENT (3 sem. hrs.) (Change the department Marketing principles, behavioral concepts, and quantitative techniques utilized in analyzing marketing problems and decisions. Emphasis on strategic and quantitative aspects of decisionmaking processes in marketing. A strategic marketing simulation game and/or rigorous case analyses are typical. Formerly MKT 430. Prerequisites: MKT 403 and MQM 406 or equivalents. MBA 440 FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT (3 sem. hrs.) (Change the department Analysis of financial problems of business enterprises and the formulation of financial policies. Financing of current operations and long-term capital needs, income management and expansion

4 policies. Includes case studies. Formerly FIL 440. Prerequisites: MQM 406, FIL 404 or equivalents. MBA 450 MANAGEMENT ACCOUNTING (3 sem. hrs.) (Change the department Designed for non-accounting majors. Emphasis on the interpretation and use of accounting data. The course cannot be presented for graduate credit by a degree candidate in the ACC program. Formerly ACC 450. Prerequisite: ACC 401 or 6 hours of accounting coursework or consent of the department chairperson. MBA 468 MANAGEMENT INFORMATION SYSTEMS: ORGANIZATIONAL AND TECHNOLOGICAL ISSUES (3 sem. hrs.) (Change the department abbreviation and move course from department to the MBA section in the catalog) Analyzes business information systems components (people, procedures, hardware, software) from organizational and technological perspectives. Cases are used to explore the relationships between organizational and technological issues. Formerly ACC 468. Prerequisite: Demonstrated competency in microcomputer tools or consent of the department chairperson. MBA 485 ADVANCED ORGANIZATIONAL STRATEGY (3 sem. hrs.) (Change the department An integrating course analyzing the firm in its environment with emphasis on formulation of policies and strategies and application of concepts through case studies and/or simulation exercises integrating all functional areas. Formerly MQM 485. Prerequisites: MBA 421, 430, 440, and MBA 427 or MQM 415, either of the latter of which may be taken concurrently with MBA 485. SWK 323 CHILD WELFARE SERVICES (Revise the prerequisites) (3 sem. hrs.) Services for dependent, neglected, abused, and handicapped children and their families. Recommended before SWK 398A10 if student wishes placement in a child and family service agency. Prerequisite: Major only or consent of the instructor. SWK 222 is recommended. SWK 324 TOPICS IN CHILD WELFARE (3 sem. hrs.) (Add majors only to the prerequisites) Analysis of current child welfare topics and the role of the profession of social work. Prerequisite: SWK 323, majors only or consent of the instructor. TEC 304 MEDICAL, AGRICULTURAL, AND BIO-RELATED TECHNOLOGIES (Drop TEC 301 from the prerequisites) (3 sem. hrs.) A study of technological systems related to medical, agricultural, and bio-related technologies. Lecture and lab. Prerequisite: TEC 101. Concentration: EAF Editorial Revision to Programs Doctoral Programs (Editorially change title of concentration from Educational Research and Foundations to Leadership, Equity and Inquiry) Admission Requirements The Department offers work leading to the Ed.D. and Ph.D. degrees with a focus in either higher education administration, P12 administration, leadership, equity and inquiry. To be eligible for

5 consideration for admission, all applicants must submit the following for review: one official transcript from each college or university other than Illinois State University; two professional letters of recommendation; a statement of career goals indicating their compatibility with the Department s mission, and an academic writing sample. Applicants with a higher education focus must have two years of experience at a higher education institution or related agency. Applicants with a P12 focus must have either a Type 75 license or principal endorsement with school leadership experience. Applicants with a leadership, equity and inquiry focus must have a master s degree. No clinical experience in educational settings is required. Doctoral applicants must be available for an interview (on-campus or by Skype). Admission is competitive. Degree Program: MUS (Revise the delivery methods) Master of Music Education is a 32- or 34-hour program, depending on choice of exit requirement. Required are the following: MUS 452, 459, 470, 471, 472, 473; two semesters of ensemble selected from MUS 365, 439A70, 439A90, 481A05, 481A06, 481A07, 482, 484, 486, and 488; 12 hours of electives in a cognate field, which may be approved by the M.M.Ed. advisor and the Music Graduate Coordinator. Electives may include, but are not limited to, applied music, music education, conducting, jazz, special education, music technology, theory/composition, music history/literature, and music therapy. All master s degree programs require a minimum of 50 percent of the non-thesis credit hours applied to the degree to be 400-level courses or above. Exit requirements for the M.M.Ed. include a written comprehensive examination and one of the following: a 4-hour thesis (MUS 499), a 2-hour professional practice music education project (MUS 498A01), or 4 additional hours to complete a non-thesis/project degree. This degree has a fully on-line plan of study available as well as a traditional full-time on campus option. The ensemble requirement may be waived for on-line students with the approval of the advisor and the Music Graduate Coordinator. Sequences: IT Revision to Programs Network and Security Management Sequence in the Masters in Information Systems The School of Information Technology is adding two courses (IT 370 and 379) to the list of electives for the Thesis, Project and Course options within the Network and Security Management Sequence, one of four of the sequences within the Master s in Information Systems. Networking and security students who graduated from our undergraduate majors have had a hard time finding electives which they haven't already taken; broadening the pool will aid them in finding appropriate electives. It will also help incoming graduate students, as currently some of the electives for the Network and Security Management Sequence are only offered every other year, making scheduling problematic.

6 KNR Recreation Administration Sequence in the M.S. in Kinesiology and Recreation In addition to the 6 hour research core required of all graduate students in Kinesiology and Recreation, this sequence requires students to complete 21 hours of graduate-level recreation administration coursework (KNR 453, 466, 472, 473, 474, 475, 476), 3 hours in a cognate area and completion of a culminating experience, both of which are approved by the faculty advisor. The culminating experience consists of a 3-6 credit hour professional practice, a 6 credit hour thesis, or 3 credit hours of independent study. Degree Programs: MBA Master of Business Administration Any pre-m.b.a. Program courses will be delivered in a 100% online format. Students who have not had undergraduate course work in economics (equivalent to ECO 105) statistics (equivalent to MQM 100), accounting (equivalent to ACC 131 and ACC 132), applied calculus (equivalent to MAT 121), introductory marketing (equivalent to MKT 230) introductory management (equivalent to MQM 220), and introductory finance (equivalent to FIL 240) or if those students have not had these courses within the previous five years (or had relevant work experience in these areas), the Pre-MBA Program courses must be completed prior to taking the Beginning Skill Core courses. A foundation evaluation will be performed at the time of admission, and students will be directed to the online resources to complete these deficiencies. MBA 411 and MBA 416 have been added as Beginning Skill Courses to the M.B.A. Program. MBA 416 replaces MQM 406. This course is designed to be an introduction to statistics and business analytics. A review of students suggests that while students may have had a statistics course in their undergraduate program, many had not used statistics in the normal routine of their job. As such, the statistical skills of our students are not at a level sufficient to be successful in core and elective courses requiring statistics. This course will elevate statistics to a core course, and is consistent with a number of competing M.B.A. programs. MBA 411 will provide students with requisite skill sets in quantitative business decision making in order to be successful in future MBA required and elective courses that require a stronger quantitative background for the student. With the addition of these two courses, MQM Research Methodology will be dropped. Many of the topics covered in MQM 497 will be covered in the new MBA 416 course. MBA will be used in all required M.B.A. courses, rather than using the individual department codes. For example, rather than MKT 430, the course will now be identified as MBA 430. 7 NUR MQM MBA 485 (Advanced Organizational Strategy) MQM 497 (Research Methodology) Delete course as a required core course. It may be retained as an elective in the MBA Program All foundation courses will be offered in an online format by a third party vendor, Ivy Software. A major area of concern for MBA faculty members has been the students' preparation for quantitatively-focused coursework. As such, if a student has not taken college algebra, economics, accounting, finance, and/or statistics within the past five years, they will be strongly encouraged to take these courses through Ivy Software as a refresher, prior to their first core course. The students will initially take a proficiency exam, and if they receive a passing score, the student will not need to take the online course. In addition, if the student does pass the proficiency exam for the particular subject matter, the student will not be charged with a fee. If the student does need to take the Pre-M.B.A. Program course, there is a fee of $100 for each course. There will be 12 hours of elective credit the student must complete, rather than the 9 hours of elective credit currently required. Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing Revise program outcomes as well as revision of curriculum and course objectives in alignment with revised program outcomes and recommendations from the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN). Replace the comprehensive examination with a combined Preliminary Exam/Dissertation Proposal Defense. Add new courses, NUR 502, 504, 506, 515, 523 and 544 and revision of current courses, NUR 503, 505, 507, 511, 513, 526, 530, 540, and 541. Deletion of NUR 501, 509, 520, 522, 524 and 542 by fall Students enrolling in fall 2015 and fall 2016 will transition into the new curriculum beginning summer Each student s plan of study has been evaluated and the transition will not result in an increase in time to degree nor increase in credit hours required for graduation.
