1 Avaya Solution & Interoperability Test Lab Application Notes for Integrating Vitel Software s Ivize Reporting Package with Avaya Communication Manager - Issue 1.0 Abstract These Application Notes describe the configuration process to use Ivize in conjunction with the Avaya Communication Manager release 1.3. Vitel Ivize enables enterprises to proactively manage and analyze their voice communications network. This network may consist of multiple, disparate voice communications platforms, including both traditional (legacy) and IP-based systems. Ivize collects performance, event and other data to provide reports, graphs, and analyses to all levels of the organization. Compliance testing for interoperability was successfully completed for the Avaya DeveloperConnection Program. Information in these notes has been obtained through compliance testing and additional technical discussions. Testing was conducted via the DeveloperConnection Program at the Avaya Solution and Interoperability Test Lab. 1 of 14

2 1. Introduction Ivize is a Windows-based software application that collects event, configuration and measurement information from voice-based platforms such as communications servers and messaging systems. This information is critical for managing systems, particularly in multi-site environments. Since the Avaya Communication Manager Server running on the S8700 Media Server retains data for limited intervals, Ivize provides the ability to pull this information before it is lost or overwritten. Ivize automates the collection of the Avaya Communication Manager data into a central data warehouse, using IP-based protocols. The user defines data collection schedules. Ivize automatically retrieves and processes data from multiple S8700 Media Servers simultaneously and then pushes reports and other information to destinations including and web servers. This information is used for management reporting, capacity planning, grade of service tabulation, and system optimization. These Application Notes focus on the interoperability of the S8700 Media Server connector, which falls under the PBX category on the Service Management Layer. 2 of 14

3 1.1. Ivize Configuration An Ivize system consists of an application server with the following configuration: Windows NT Server with Service Pack 6 or Windows 2000 Server with Service Pack 4. SQL Server 2000 Static IP Address for the Ivize system LAN connection to the Avaya S8700 The Ivize system performs all data collection tasks and historical data management. There are several Ivize NT Services that run continuously to check collection schedules, and automatically retrieve data from S8700 systems. Additional desktop computer systems called clients can run Ivize software to generate reports and view collected data. Figure 2-Connectivity to S8700 Media Server 3 of 14

Equipment and Software Validated The following equipment and software were used for the sample configuration provided: Equipment Software Avaya S8700 Media Server with MCC1 Media Gateway R012x Vitel Ivize Avaya S8700 Server Configuration Ivize establishes a connection to the S8700 using a standard system login and password. ASG authentication is supported, and Ivize handles the challenge/response exchange automatically. The S8700 login account MUST have display and list permissions. Ivize connects to the S8700 Media Server via the CLAN interface. The CLAN interface must support the SAT terminal service. The SAT terminal service is configured in the IP-Service setting. The following steps describe configurations on the Avaya S8700 Media Server Create Service Account The following steps describe how to create a service account for Ivize services on the Avaya S8700 Media Server Step Description 1. From the SAT terminal session, enter add login vitel and press Enter. 4 of 14

Save the configuration by entering the save translations command Enable SAT Terminal Service The following steps explain how to enable the SAT Terminal service on the Avaya S8700 Media server. Step Description 1. From the SAT terminal session, type change ip-service. 5 of 14

Configure the Ivize Server The following steps describe how to configure the Ivize Server to communicate with the Avaya Communication Manager. 4.1 Setting Up Information in Ivize Ivize requires that the preliminary information be entered in order for data collection to occur. The Ivize Operations Guide provides a step-by-step guide to configuring Ivize for first time use. The basic steps are outlined below. Step Description 1. Click on the Ivize icon to run the program. Log in into Ivize using your login and password. 2. Enter a Company record in the Company form. Click Save to save the record. 3. Click on the Regions icon in the Ivize Configuration menu. 6 of 14

7 Right-click and select New to add a new Regions record. Complete the required information (shown in RED) and click Save to save the record. Exit the form. 7 of 14

8 4. Click on the Agents icon in the Ivize Configuration menu. Right-click and select New to add a new Agent record. Enter values for the following: Agent Name: Enter the name of the Ivize server performing the polling task. IP Address: Enter the IP Address of the Ivize server. Click Save. Default values for File Retention Days will auto-populate. Check the This Agent runs the AutoReporter Service box. Check the This Agent runs the Task Scheduler Services box. Click on the IP Settings button. Enter the IP Group Name. Note that the group name must be unique across all Agents. A typical Group Name is IP GROUP. Enter the maximum number of connections to allow at one time. A typical entry is 8. Click Save to save the record. Click Cancel to exit. Click Save to save the record. Click Cancel to exit New Agent window. 8 of 14

9 5. Click on the System Info icon. Double click on the Licenses icon. In the License Number column, enter the Ivize serial number in the row marked Definity/Comm Manager. Click Save. Click Cancel to exit. 6. Create a node name for the Avaya S8700 Media Server. Right click on the Communications Server icon in the left panel of the console and then select New. The values for the fields below are for the Avaya S8700 platform. Field Description Name Enter a name for the S8700 Media Server. Activate for Collection This box should be checked. Time zone The time zone in which the node resides. Select from listbox. This information is used by the Data Collection agent to determine data collection times. For data integrity, it is crucial that the time zone be set correctly to match the time zone of the node. Region Region in which the node is located. Version Select S8700 1x-2 Agent The Ivize agent assigned to collect data from this node. Connect Via Select TCP/IP. Resource Group The resource group assigned to collect data from this node. If collection is via IP, the IP Group will be displayed. IP Address Retry Count TCP Port Login Password The IP address of the S8700 Media Server node. Enter 1 for this field. (TCP/IP connections only.) The port used for TCP/IP access to the node. The login that is required for access to the node. This is typically sa. The password that that is required for access to the node. Confirm the password in the field below. 9 of 14

10 The window shown illustrates a sample node configuration: 7. For each node set up in Ivize, data elements to be collected and the frequency that those data elements are to be collected must be defined. The available elements will depend on the particular platform. The frequency of data collection will also depend on the type of reports to be generated. Most data can be collected on an hourly, daily, weekly, or monthly basis. Where data is overwritten on an hourly basis (as in S8700 communication servers for instance), elements may be available on an hourly basis only. In order to provide stringent monitoring, alarms or status log elements may be polled as frequently as every 5 minutes. Not all frequency options make sense for all elements. It makes little sense to collect statistics on an hourly basis if they are only updated on a daily basis. 10 of 14

11 For the S8700 Media Server, click on the Activated column for each data element to be activated. Do not activate an element if the feature is not available on the server. It is recommended that the default frequency settings be retained. Click Save when finished. 11 of 14

12 9. The final installation step is to turn on the Ivize services for data collection. Select Service Setup from the Ivize group on the Windows start menu or select Service Setup from the Tools menu of the Ivize Console. Click on each box for each Service and then click the button marked Setup. The lights on the right side will turn from gray to red as shown below: Next click on the button marked Start. The buttons on the right will turn from red to green. This means that these Services are running and data collection will occur at the next hour. Click Exit 5. Interoperability Compliance Testing The compliance testing had two primary objectives. 1. To ensure reliability of connectivity between Ivize and the S8700 Media Server. Ivize consistently logs in, logs out as expected based on the schedule of jobs submitted. Ivize collects all data that has been specified by the schedule of elements selected for processing. 2. To ensure data processing accuracy. Data collected by Ivize was matched to data on the S8700 Media Server. 12 of 14

13 5.1. General Test Approach There are three Ivize services, which perform the gathering of data from the S8700 Media Server. The interoperability compliance test verified the following Ivize subsystems such as Task Scheduler, Data Collector, Data Loader, and Report. In addition, the compliance test also validated reliability. The data was compared between reports generated by Ivize and reports generated by Avaya Communication Manager using the SAT terminal Test Results Vitel Ivize successfully passed the Interoperability Compliance. 6. Verification Steps Steps to validate the information received from the above test cases: 1. Run a report using the Query Designer that will show the hourly data for each element marked hourly in the test cases. Ensure the data that is on the report matches what was scheduled. Verify that the elements that were submitted as hourly have consistent data on the report. 2. From the SAT terminal session, match the data for an element to the data in the Ivize element table. 7. Conclusion This interoperability compliance test verified that the Vitel Ivize solution successfully integrated with an Avaya S8700 Media Server running Avaya Communication Manager Release Additional References Ivize System Requirements Document- provides the hardware and software requirements for the Ivize product.
