Configuring an F700 TSMIU The first step to installing an F700 (4 in 1, 8 in 1, 16 in 1) is to set them up in system configuration in the Mattec MES Application. To accomplish this click on system configuration button on the menu bar. 1
Then, click on the word site and go to Channel 2
In Channel configuration, click on NEW to create a new Channel. Choose the next Channel number available from the Number drop box (this is not automatic and you must know the next number available). Channels can be Ethernet, Manual, Web Service or Serial. Choose the Type from the drop down list. 3
For this example, we will be creating an Ethernet Channel. You will see it has been named Ethernet 1 (this name can be whatever you choose). The type in the example is set to Mattec Ethernet. The computer will be the name of the computer running the Mattec MES server software. The setup string will be the port you are going to use. We like to use ports 3708 and higher as they are open and easily usable by our system. Once complete, click the SAVE button. We recommend that you place each Multiple in 1 MIU on its own Ethernet channel. So, if you were to have 3 physical MIU boxes on your floor, you would create 3 separate channels. Assign each one a unique name and Setup String. 4
Now, we are ready to configure the machines(s). To begin this, we will again click on the system configuration icon from the menu bar. Now, click on Site and then Machine Configuration 5
We can now start to create the machine in Machine Configuration. The fields we need to be concerned about on the general tab are the Machine Number, Description, MIU Level, Machine Speed, Department, Channel, MAC Address, Address and Shift Configuration. We will go over these one by one below. 6
Machine Number This is a 6 digit alpha numeric field. This should be unique for every machine in your plant. If you have an ERP solution, it is best practice for this machine number to match the name you have given this resource in ERP. Description This is a free form field which will allow you to put a more descriptive indication of what this machine actually is. MIU Level This needs to be set to a TYPE 7 10X (Jumbo) Machine Speed This is determining whether the machine will be counting as a cycle time machine (x number of seconds per cycle) or a rate style machine (x number of strokes per x). Every machine configured on the same MIU needs to be setup to use the same Machine Speed setting. Department This allows you to put the machine in a specific department. Each machine can be in a different department if so desired. Channel This is the physical Channel we are installing this onto. Refer to the channels created earlier to decide which channel you are putting this machine on. Obviously, all machines wired to the same physical miu need to be on the same channel. MAC Address This is the physical MAC address of the MIU. This can be obtained by going to the MIU and pushing the extended function button, then the comm info button on the physical MIU. The field is called MIU MAC. It will be a 6 octet number, each set of two numbers/letters separated by a comma. In our Example we have 00:05:8A:02:52:86. Each physical miu will have a unique MAC Address. However, every machine wired into this miu will have the same MAC Address in their configuration. 7
Address This is a logical addressing system for the miu. In an Ethernet miu, we first look at the MAC address for the unit, then we look at the address numbers. The machine with the lowest Address, but same MAC address becomes the first logical machine on the miu. The next Address for the Same MAC Address becomes the second Logical MIU and so on. (Example Let s assume that all machines are the same MAC address. My Address fields are 0,1,2,4,6,8. I would end up with 6 logical machines configured on the MIU. Address 0 would be logical machine 1, Address 1 is Logical machine 2, Address 2 is Logical Machine 3, Address 4 becomes logical machine 4 because there is not a 3 and address 6 becomes logical machine 5 etc.) It is important to remember the above example because if you start out and assign all of your machines in numerical order, then you remove a machine from the order, the machine will then slide down in their logical location. For example above, if we were to get rid of address 4, the machine at address 6 would become logical machine 4 because it is next in line. This is important when we get to mapping the signals on the MIU itself. Shift Configuration Determines what shifts this particular machine will use. Each machine on the MIU can use a different shift configuration. The server controls shift changes, the Miu is unaware of the shift it is in. 8
Once all fields have been completed, click on the Process Parameters Tab. 9
Here, we will be concerned about the following columns: Input, Parameter, Units, Type and Decimal Places. Input The below inputs are used for cycle count only machines. For additional inputs, refer to the system configuration manual on how to setup additional input parameters. AIU 1 CYC Time This is the duration pulse in the miu, it measures from the time the input goes high until the next time the input goes high. This gives us a counter. This always needs to be the top input in the machine, and will be referred to as logical signal CYCLE TIME on the MIU. AIU 1 Digital 1 - This is the duration for the digital input used above. It will allow us to determine how long the cycle signal stays high. For example, if we used start of injection as our cycle signal, it stays high during Inject and then goes low, with this one signal, we can count the number of cycles and give us a timer for Injection time. Parameter A drop down list of all available parameters configured in your system. AIU 1 CYC Time should always be Cycle Time. Other inputs may be named whatever you like. Units Descriptive term for the length (can be minutes, seconds, etc. Each machine can have their own unique Units description. Type Whether the input is a Digital or Analog signal. For this example, we will be dealing with cycle only machines and thus only digital signals. For further information regarding additional signals, consult the system configuration manual. Decimal Places - Determine how many decimal places we will show for the signal. Generally use 1 or 2 decimal places. 3 decimal places would be reserved for very high speed machines (stamping, printing, etc.) Every machine on the MIU must have the same number of decimal places defined for cycle time in order for it to work properly. Once everything is saved, you must stop/restart the Mattec MIU Service for the machines to be picked up and changes be seen at the physical MIU. 10
Now that the machines are properly configured in the system, we will move to the configuration at the physical MIU. The screen to start with is the Comm Info screen. Navigate to this screen by clicking on extended functions, then service, then comm info. If the miu is not configured yet, you will already be on the service display as it is the only active screen until configuration. Simple click on the Comm Info button. 11
Now we are on the Comm Info page. Here you can configure the network settings for the miu. First, you have the DHCP settings. When configured to YES, the MIU will query your network s DHCP server and obtain all the necessary information to configure the other options. When configured to NO, you will need to enter the following: IP Address Local IP Address you want the MIU to use. Subnet Mask Subnet Mask to match your local network settings as required by your local IT. DNS Address Address for your DNS server, needed if you want the miu to find the Mattec Server by name. Domain Suffix Required if you have a domain suffix you need to use. If the options are grayed out, turn off the MIU, change the position of dip switch #3, turn the MIU back on. Switch 3 locks the settings so they cannot be changed accidently. 12
Also available on this screen is the field MIU MAC. This is an eight octet value with each set of two number/letters separated by a comma. This is the number used in Machine Configuration in the field MAC Address. We can now go back to the original Service Display: Two required fields are Host Name/IP and Host Port. Host Name / IP Set this to either the name of the Mattec server, or preferably the IP address of the server. By using the IP Address, the MIU is not relying on a DNS Server to resolve to the correct machine. Host Port This needs to be set to the Setup string value from Channels, for the channel this MIU is configured on in Machine Configuration. If the options are grayed out, turn off the MIU, change the position of dip switch #3, turn the MIU back on. Switch 3 locks the settings so they cannot be changed accidently. Any Settings changed on this screen or the Comm Info screen require a re-boot of the MIU to take effect. 13
Let s talk now about what a logical machine is. When a multiple in one MIU configures, it creates a list of logical machines. The order of this is determined by address number as described earlier. Every machine configured to the same MAC Address will be configured by the MIU in order of the Address field. To see this order, simply click on the Machine icon button in the upper right hand corner of the MIU. This is the Machine Selection screen. Machines are ordered by logical machine number on this display. They go from left to right, then top to bottom. The names of the machines shown in this picture indicate their logical number on the MIU. 14
It is a good practice to take a piece of paper and write the machines on it. Number the machines 1-X, depending on how many machines you have configured. Write these starting in the upper left hand corner and work your way left to right, then top to bottom. Run these down the left side of the paper. This way you know the order of logical machines for future configuration steps without having to jump back to this screen. 15
Next step is to configure the Digital signals for the MIU. To do this, we first must know the position inside the miu where you have physically wired the machines. We will use the diagram from the MIU wiring booklet as a reference. A multiple in one MIU will have 16 available physical digital inputs. They are numbered on the plugs inside the MIU Each pair of numbers represents one input. For instance 1 & 2 = physical digital 1, 3 & 4 = physical digital 2, etc. Keep track of which physical digital input you have wired each machine into. 16
It is good practice to write this down the right hand side of the same piece of paper used before. Label the top Physical Input and write the position each Logical machine is wired into across from the appropriate machine. This will make the next step very simple. In our example, we are using a 16 in 1 miu where each machine is using 1 digital input each for their cycle time. You can divide the digital inputs up any way you like for lesser in 1 units. For example, a 4 in 1 miu can still use 16 digital inputs for signals, each machine could use 4 digital inputs each, or any other way you want to sub-divide it. Keep track of each machine s digital inputs as needed. 17
Now that this info is acquired, we can move back to the MIU configuration screens. The next step is to go back to the Services screen and push the signal map button. Then, press the button marked Digital. You now see what the digital signal map looks like when we first setup the MIU. As you will see, this is a grid configuration. Across the top we have the logical machine number, then down the left hand side, the digital inputs from machine configuration. CT, D2, D3, D4, D5, D6, D7 and D8 refer to digital inputs 1 8. Aux1, Aux2, Aux3 and Aux 4 refer to inputs used to derive stages of pressure when used with a pressure transducer. These are generally the same physical digital inputs, just used in multiple locations. 18
The above map shows a 16 in 1 MIU with all machines unblocked. If you see an uneven number of machines (Not 2, 4, 8 or 16), then you have some machines blocked. To correct this, click on the block machines button and enter a value of 0. When you choose to block machines, you must reboot the MIU for the changes to show. Once you have changed the blocked machines to 0 and rebooted, come back to the signal map screen. All possible machines available to be configured on this machine will now be available. Take the full number of machines you have available, then subtract the number of machines you have wired into the miu. (Example: 16 machines available 9 machines wired in = 7). Now, go back to block machines button, choose the number you arrived at above and block that number. Again, reset the miu and come back to the signal map screen. 19
If you have a wiring scenario where each logical machine lines up with its digital signal next to it. (Example like sheet above, LOG1 = Digital 1, LOG 2 = Digital 2, etc.) Press the default map button on the signal map screen. As you can see, this automatically maps the logical machine to the physical channel that corresponds. (1-P1, 2-P2, 3-P3, etc.) If you are only using digital inputs and have them wired as shown, you are done with the configuration at the MIU. The MIU should now count cycles for each machine configured. 20
Assuming that you cannot use the default map, we will now discuss how to map inputs for each signal. First, we will click on the white button below the word Machine. This will bring up a pick list where you can choose which Logical Machine you would like to map. Choose the appropriate machine and now we can move on to the next step, which is deciding which logical signal we want to use. 21
To choose the logical signal, press the white box below the word Logical Signal, again a pick list will come up and allow you to choose which logical signal needed to map. Choose the desired logical signal and then, move to the next step, which is choosing which Physical Channel we are mapping to. 22
Press the white button below the words Physical Channel, again a selection box will appear allowing you to select which physical location you have the input wired to. Once everything is mapped, you can press the exit key to return to the service display. Again, A reboot of the MIU is required for changes to take effect. 23
