2 The company Plantyst delivers by means of lease a specialized hardware device called Plantyst box. It is designed to collect data directly from the clients machines. Plantyst box is an industrial computer which is located in black steel case and is designed to monitor the production equipment. The monitoring is based on measuring the pulses, that correspond to production unit. The Box is the only equipment, which is placed in production shop, it is not necessary to install any server or data storage units. The Box is delivered together with power supply adapter. As a standard it is delivered the power supply 12 V DC, 2 A with bipolar socket connector, designed to inner voltage V AC / 50 Hz. Power consumption typically 5 W, max. 20 W. Optionally could be supplied adapter to DIN rail into the Control Cabinet. 1. Technical Description There are state LEDs placed on the top side of the Box, with following value: LED POWER signalizes connection of corresponding power supply LED READY signalizes successful booting of the System and run of main processes (when starting, the LED flashes three times shortly) LED CONNECTED signalized availability of connection between Box and Plantyst servers (see chapter Diagnostic of Communication) There is DIN rail on Bottom side Picture 1. Front panel of the Plantyst box On the front panel there are connectors designed for connections of Plantyst Box and identification tag. The Purpose od individual connectors is described in following chapters. 2

3 1.1. Power Supply of Plantyst Box The Connector for Power Supply is marked as POWER and is places in the front panel, left lower side. The purpose od individual pins od input power connector is marked on the box (from left): plus, minus. Box is safety protection against interchange of polarity and possible power supply overvoltage. Correct connection of Power Supply is indicated by state LED POWER. For correct function of the whole Plantyst Solution it is necessary to secure permanent power supply to the Box Input Connectors To connect the machines there are three-pole socket screw connectors (marked IN1 up to IN10). On each connector there is power supply of the box, on left and right side pins, marked + and. The voltage size and polarity correspond to size and polarity of the power supply of the Box (pins 1 and - od connectors IN1 to IN10 and POWER are connected inside between each other). If the polarity of the Box power supply is interchanged, the pins of connectors are interchanged. In such a case it may cause defect on sensors or on other equipment used for machine connection. The middle pin of the connector (marked SIG) id a digital power input designed for the signal from the machine. Value for the state of logical 1 is 7 28 V, for logical 0 od 0 3 V. Maximal input power is 28 V. Maximal frequency of the pulses is 1 khz. It is necessary to secured, that incoming signal does not contain interference, which could be considered as a valid pulse (which means pulses longer than 1ms). It is possible to minimalize the interference by use of shielded line, where shielding can be connected to minus of the connector. There are control LED above the connectors, signalizing the occurrence of logical state 1 on the input. 3

4 1.3. Other Connectors Ethernet (ETH): 10/100 Mbit/s Ethernet connected with connector RJ45 (8P8C) as standards IEEE Base-T, IEEE 802.3u 100Base-TX a IEEE 802.3x. USB: USB 2.0 designed for service purpose and configuration of computer network (see chapter Network Communication) 2. Installation Place the Box inside the cabinet, on dry place with temperature up to max. 60 C, with accest to the Box. Below is the Schema of the connection of the Box, using the GSM modem (picture 2) or direct through in-house network (picture 3). Consult the connection to the machine with your machine supplier. 5 Picture 3 Connection Schema Ethernet Cable 3. Network Communication 3.1. Communication and Data transfer between the Box and Plantyst servers Box communicates always in direction out. It does not require to open dedicated ports from internet into the in-house network. The Box communicates with following ways, that does not require any other special settings: Establish HTTPS connections with Plantyst servers on port 443, Establish HTTPS connections for transfer of new actualizations from Plantyst servers on port 80, Synchronizes time via NTP protocol on port 123. Internal network (its elements) may not block such communication, or the Box will not work correctly. If requested, it is possible to configure NTP client, so that the client communicates with its in-house NTP server. 6 Endpoints of PING protocol are designed only for diagnostic of communication (see Chapter 3.3.). Their availability is not necessary within regular operation Setting of computer network Proper setting of computer network and configuration of network connection of the Box has crucial influence on Plantyst full functionality. Manufacturing companies use most often 3 types of network configurations. Type of network configuration will be told to you by your IT administrator. 1. Dynamic configuration with DHCP server no necessity to register MAC address. In this case no action is required. 2. Dynamic configuration with DHCP server necessity to register MAC address. In this case it is necessary to register the Box into the Computer Network. Hand over to your IT administrator the MAC address of the Box and ask him for registration. MAC address is on the card on the front panel of the box in a format type MAC: 00:05:AB:FF:00: Static configuration without DHCP. In this case it is necessary to configure the Box. Hand over the Box to your IT administrator and ask him to configure it according the following procedure. For configuration you need to know: MAC address of the BOx (see the card on front panel), IP address reserved for the Box, net mask, default gateway, DNS server (domain name server) Setup procedure Setup the Box (switch the network configuration to static without DHCP ) using the USB Flash disk and simple text file.. 1. Connect USB Flash disk formatted as FAT32 (Windows standard) to your computer. 2. Create text file according the following pattern: 6

7 IPADDR= NETMASK= GATEWAY= DNS= If you create the file make sure, that it does not contain windows type of end of line (CRLF), but only unix (LF). 3. Save prepared file under the name PLANTYST_IP_STATIC_copy (without suffix) on USB Flash disk. 4. Disconnect USB Flash disk from your computer and connect it to USB port of switched-off Box (switched-off from power supply). 5. Connect power supply to box and wait until the USB Flash disk stops to flash (ca 20 seconds). 6. Now you can switch-off the Box and disconnect the USB Flash disk - configuration is completed a saved. In case you need to change the static configuration, use the same steps - original configuration will be rewritten. pin case you need to reconfigure the Box back to dynamic network configuration, create empty file and save it to USB Flash disk under the name PLATYST_IP_STATIC_remove (without suffix). Further follow the steps 4, 5 and 6 above Diagnostic of communication It is possible to diagnose the state of communication with Plantyst servers by means of LED CONNECTED, on top side of the Box. Meaning in chart below: State LED Cause Disconnected UTP cable..... Short flashing at about 4 seconds Internet not available Short flashing at about 1 second Internet available Flashing with period ca 1 second Disconnected cable Servery do not answer to PING Connection to Plantyst servers is not available Successful connection with Plantyst servers 7

8 4. Device Security - Plantyst Box Security The device stores data from the monitored machines not longer than absolutely necessary. Data are safely sent to the servers. The device communicates encrypted over the Internet to the server side. Communication runs via HTTPS protocol with verification of SSL certificate of the server authority. The device does not contain any sensitive information, neither about the customer nor the machines, and thus cannot be exploited by any hacker, for example for a purpose to read data from another devices or to impersonation the system users. From this reason theft of the device does not pose any serious security risk. Designed one-way communication protocol makes mastering of the device from the outside by an unauthorized person impossible. Devices can be connected to the demilitarized zone (DMZ) of the customer, or directly to his internal network. 5.
