TSW200E1 Description The TSW200E1 is a field-portable Telecom Datacom Analyzer for installing, maintaining and testing asynchronous (50 bps up to bps) and synchronous (1200 bps up to 10 Mbps) digital data communication lines and framed 2048 Kbps PCM (E1) or 64 Kbps X.50 circuits. Optional modules for networks and telephony such as Frame Relay, X.25, X.50, PPP, chdlc, DTMF, MFC-R2, VT-100, Pulse Mask and ISDN-PRI are also available. It's most simple test is the Bit Error Rate (BERT). The local unit sends a known bit pattern to the remote unit that checks the incoming data searching for incorrectly received bits. So the Bit Error Rate is measured to see if the link meets the required quality. Error histograms are recorded over a long time run test to check when the errors are happening. General Characteristics Features Interfaces V.24/RS232, V.35/V.11, V.36/V.11, X.21/V.11, RS530, G Kbps (codirectional) and G.703-2Mbps (Rec.G.704 ITU-T). Standard Modules: This is the minimum configuration. BERT/BLERT: Bit Error Rate (BER), Block Error Rate (BLER), slip errors are measured and Recommendations G.821 and G.822 analysis are performed. Pattern Loss, Sync Loss, All zeroes, All ones, No Clock and many other alarms are recorded. E1/G.704: Bit Error Rate (BER) in E1 links (2Mbps) that use framed G.704 (PCM30, PCM30C, PCM31 e PCM31C). Recs G.821, G.826 and M2100 analysis are performed. Optional Modules: They are set up under the customers requirement when ordering the equipment. Frame Relay Module: testing of Frame Relay communication protocol networks. X.25 Mode: testing of SDLC, HDLC, X.25, ASYNC, SYNC and DDCMP communication protocol networks.
PPP Module: testing connectivity and response time in synchronous PPP links. X.50 Module: testing of framed links running Recommendation X.50 MFC-R2 Module: analysis and simulation of the MFC/R2 signaling in E1 links. DTMF Module: analysis and simulation of the DTMF signaling in E1 links. ISDN Module: analysis and simulation of the ISDN-PRI signaling in E1 links. VT-100 Module: emulation of VT-100 terminal to program modems, routers and other equipments. Ethernet Module: testing connectivity and response time through a local Ethernet network. It is then possible to drop / insert one or more timeslots via RS232, V.35, V.36, RS530 or X.21 interfaces.
Replacing, by any testing pattern, the framed data in one or more timeslots (channel). Monitoring a chosen timeslot, even listening a voice transmission with a built-in speaker. Checking for alarms in the link without interfering in the data path. c) Mux: The TSW200E1 performs E1 multiplexer tests. Testing pattern sent in one or more channels of the multiplexer via the RS232, V.35, V.36, RS530 or X.21 interfaces. Assessing the 2 Mbps framed data beam generated by the multiplexer. d) Demux: The TSW200E1 performs E1 demultiplexer tests. Transmitting the 2 Mbps framed data to a E1 demultiplexer. Receiving the demultiplexed data in one or more channels in one of the interfaces: RS232, V.35, V.36, RS530 or X.21. e) Monitor: The TSW200E1 performs monitoring E1 links: Monitoring the Si, Sa, A and E bits of the NFAS word in timeslot 0. Monitoring the FAS, NFAS, MFAS, NMFAS and CRC MFAS words. Monitoring the eight-bit code word in any timeslot. Monitoring the CAS (Channel Associated Signaling) status for all the 30 telephone channels. f) Frequency/Level Mode: The TSW200E1 allows for a level and frequency settable digitalized sinusoid to be inserted in any E1 timeslot. Simultaneously, allows for assessing the level and frequency of a channel output sinusoid. g) Round-trip Delay: The TSW200E1 allows for measuring the delay of the path under test. To do so, a remote loop is performed and a mark is inserted during transmission. The delay is obtained when this mark is received back. All the testing patterns can be used in the transmission. 3. FRAME RELAY MODULE The TSW200E1 performs the management linkage between the DTE (Data Terminal Equipment) and the network and checks if the frames are being correctly transmitted and received in a Frame Relay protocol structure. The Frame Relay mode performs three kinds of tests:
a) TURN UP Idle flag detection (7E hexadecimal) Active linkage checking (Frame Relay Heartbeat) Status Enquiry (question) and Status (answer) messages assessment Linkage integrity checking (LIV) Identification of set up DLCIs and of its status FCS Frame Relay error checking b) PING End to end connectivity checking in TCP/IP protocol networks c) FOX End to end connectivity checking in non-tcp/ip protocol networks. Network "stress" checking through a frame continuous traffic at a user defined rate (CIR). 4. X.25/XDLC MODULE The TSW200E1 performs tests in the SDLC, HDLC, X.25, ASYNC, SYNC and DDCMP protocols and checks the linkage integrity upon observing if the frames are correctly being transmitted and received. ASYNC and SYNC tests monitor the data that go through a DTE DCE linkage, by means of sending and receiving data previously stored in buffers. Interfaces: V.24/RS232, V.35/V.11, V.36/V.11 and X.21/V.11. Operation speed: from 1200 bps to 256 Kbps synchronous or from 50 bps to bps asynchronous. Code operation ASCII, HEX and EBCDIC. 5. PPP MODULE The TSW200E1 performs connectivity tests in PPP protocol networks, and can, for example, replace a router and ping a remote point. Interfaces: V.24/RS232, V.35/V.11, V.36/V.11 and X.21/V.11. Operation speed: from 1200 bps to 256 Kbps, synchronous communication mode only. First, the TSW200E1 sends LCP protocol packages, establishes and sets the link up. Next, NCP packages are sent so as to define what network protocol to be used. In this case, the protocol used will be the IPCP.
Allows checking the end-to-end connectivity inside the network and the response time for remote points through sent PING packages. 6. X.50 MODULE The X.50 structure used at 64 Kbps allows for the carriage of many data channels with lower rates inside the 64Kbps synchronous band width. Generation and assessment of framed signal in divisions 2 and 3. Generated sequences: 63, 511, 2047, 2E15-1, 2E20-1, Mark, Space, ALT-M/S, USER, in the regular and inverted modes. Independent selection of transmission and reception octets. Errors assessment and alarms. Internal, external and reception regenerated clock. Idle code and BERT/IDLE status bits set up. Test length: continuous or user defined. 7. MFC-R2 MODULE The TSW200E1 CAS MFC-R2 module is able to record the entire process of establishing a call using the ABCD bits of E1 beam (CAS bits) and the multi-frequency signaling tones that occur in the correspondent time-slots. The TSW200E1 can act as a simulator or analyzer in a communication that uses the MFCR2 signaling. As an analyzer, the equipment receives both forward and backward signals, identifying the line (R2 digital) signaling and the multi-frequency signaling (MFC) in all the channels. This option allows observation of the communication without interfering with it. As a simulator, it takes over one of the extremes of the communication, answering the received calls or starting one. 8. VT-100 MODULE With this options installed the TSW200E1 can act as a VT-100 console terminal to program routers, modems and any equipment that runs VT-100 protocol. The great advantage is to avoid the need of a microcomputer in the field to have this task done. 9. ETHERNET MODULE This module lets the TSW200E1 verify the connectivity of a local network with the Internet. It can test the Ethernet interface of modems, routers, etc... A Ping test can be done using IP addresses or URLs. A mini-browser is also available to access any Internet website. 10. chdlc MODULE
The TSW200E1 performs connectivity tests in chdlc protocol networks, and can, for example, replace a Cisco router to ping a remote point. Interfaces: V.24/RS232, V.35/V.11, V.36/V.11 and X.21/V.11. Operation speed: from 1200 bps to 256 Kbps, in synchronous communication mode only. The TSW200E1 sends SLARP to establish and set the link up and then it checks the end-to-end connectivity and response times sending PING packages. 11. PULSE MASK MODULE This module displays a single pulse of the G703 received signal at the screen and lets the user check if it fits inside the required mask that it is drawn together. It also shows several measurements, such as overshoot, undershoot, rising edge, falling edge, pulse level and pulse width. The TSW200E1 also allows for: Memory storing the results of the tests performed, for further checking. Storing the setup of the most used testing parameters. Printing out the results of the stored tests through a serial interface, in serial, parallel printers (using the serial-parallel conversion cable) and in PCs (through the hyperterminal). Memory, display, LEDs and keyboard self-test.
