Set-up and operation of the unit has exclusively to be effected under consideration of the applying safety regulations and by qualifi ed staff. Overview Routers are devices enabling a logical and physical structuring of networks. RTRS and RTRSD are standard LONWORKS router based on the router core module RTR-10 by Echelon, thus ensuring compatibility and LONMARK conformity. The routers include two network interfaces with a LON transceiver each. The A side of the router has always a TP/FT10 transceiver while the router s B-side can optionally be equipped with a TP/FT10 or a TP/XF1250 transceiver. SmartRouters with TP/FT10 transceivers are compatible with LPT-10 (Link Power Transceiver) allowing the use within LPT10 networks. The RTRSD SmartRouter with diagnostics function includes an additional diagnostics node on the A side (NET A) to monitor the channel there. Which are the tasks solved by the Diagnostics Node of the RTRSD?! Monitoring of the ring topology! Supervision of the communication with the nodes in the network segment! Evaluation of the channel s transmission quality by monitoring and logging of channel load and error frequency! Voltage supervision in Link Power segments The diagnostics node can be used as monitoring tool for Free Topology and Link Power networks. Ring shaped structures are used in order to achieve increased safety by redundancy within the communication channels. 2 RTRS / RTRSD

Note: As shown in Fig.2 please make sure that NET A1 is connected to RING RA, when using the Diagnostics function (RTRSD) (similiary NET A2 applies to RA2). Please see device description for details! Operation Elements The topside of the router includes 1 (RTRS) or 3 (RTRSD) push buttons, named Service Diag. (Service Diagnostics), TEST and Service Router. The respective use is shown in the following tables. The termination is displayed by the diagnostics LED going out and the node returns into normal operation mode. For correct bus termination built-in terminators are used, which can be confi g- ured by easily accessible DIP switches. Termination for each network segment depends on the used network topology. Especially when using several modules with internal termination, make sure that the network is not inadvertently terminated multiple times. Please observe the guidelines concerning the cable length and suggested cable types, published by Echelon Corporation and the LONMARK Interoperability Association (see and The router termination is made via DIP switches: 1 and 2 switch the router s A side, 3 and 4 the B side (Table 6). In order to ensure correct termination during all test phases while using the ring test (RTRSD), the router internal bus termination has to be used. RTRS / RTRSD 5

After storage at temperatures higher than 70 C the device has do be cooled down prior to be switched-on.
