The 8000v1 and 8000v2 require no special steps. Important: For all the steps below, use an approved USB stick (Kingston 8GB Datatraveler 102), and format it on the 6000 beforehand. This is Agile part number Using other USB sticks has been known to fail. Page 3 of 17

4 2.1 Upgrading from 13.x or 14.x to is not compatible with previously released base software. It requires the new base software that was released concurrently with 15.0 version This base software can only be installed via a USB upgrade. A network upgrade, or an upgrade from will not work. A combo stick (base BERT 15.0) is the easiest way to upgrade both base and BERT. Separate base and BERT sticks will work too, but base MUST be installed before BERT. Once you are upgraded to the new base software, your 6000 will be capable of web upgrades to future versions of software from Downgrading from 15.0 to 14.x or 13.x The steps below mention 14.2, but will work for 13.x as well. Downgrading cannot be done via a network downgrade. A USB downgrade must be used, and in a special way it must be done from the boot menu, not the System page as usual. You ll need two USB sticks: - A stick containing only the version of base software that shipped with Agile part number has a link to this. - Combo stick with previous base BERT, OR a stick with only 14.2 BERT. 1. Downgrade your base software to from the boot menu. Make sure the stick has only base software on it a combo stick with base BERT will not work for this step. To downgrade from the boot menu: - Press AND HOLD the power button until the screen goes black. - Release the power button. The On LED should be blinking. - Press AND HOLD the Setup & Start/Stop keys at the same time until the boot menu comes up. - Release the Setup/Start/Stop keys - Insert the USB stick, and select Upgrade from USB Once the downgrade is done, the existing BERT software will be wiped out. 5 2. Reinstall 14.2 BERT. Use your base combo or 14.2-BERT-only stick, whichever you created. 3 New Features and Changes since Previous Release 3.1 Changes with BERT 15.0 GPS-based One Way Delay (OWD) Adds support for using a GPS receiver to do OWD measurements on both the MSAM and The MSAM s existing support for using a CDMA Receiver for these measurements is maintained now supports CDMA-receiver based OWD as well. Both platforms now support both types of receiver. For MSAM But must have purchased existing OWD option that was created for CDMA-based One Way Delay CTOWD. Also must have purchased GPS receiver kit which is itself a purchasable option. For Yes C5OWD. This will cover One Way Delay using either the GPS or CDMA receiver. Note that GPS and CDMA receivers themselves are also purchasable options. 1pps Analysis Adds support for Wander measurements at a 1PPS (Pulse Per Second) test interface. This measures the drift of a 1pps signal under test against a reference 1PPS reference signal. The reference signal is obtained from a GPS receiver. MSAMv2 Page 5 of 17

6 Yes CT1PPS Fast OAM in Y.1731 and Y.1711 Adds support for transmitting Y.1711 (new in this release) FFDs and Y.1731/G.8114/G CCMs (these are all heartbeat messages) at faster rates than before 3.33ms, 10ms, 20ms and 50ms. Y.1711 OAM Adds support for Y.1711 OAM in MPLS-TP tests. 2.4G CPRI and 3.1G OBSAI Adds support for 2.4G CPRI and 3.1G OBSAI for the MSAMs and Also adds 3.1G CPRI to the New test patterns, new definition of frame sync. MSAMv1, MSAMv2 GPS for 1588 Adds support for using a GPS as a timing reference for doing PTP measurements. If enabled, the GPS will supply Time of Day (ToD) and 1pps Sync, which will be used in place of any timing information received from a 1588 grandmaster MSAMv1, 6000-MSAMv2 No, but must have purchased GPS receiver kit, which IS a purchasable option. NTP Add support for synchronizing the testset s time with an NTP server somewhere on a customer s network. The management port will connect to the customer s LAN. MSAMv1, MSAMv2 TrueSAM Page 8 of 17

9 New tool for Ethernet turnup. Lets you run J-QuickCheck, J-Proof, RFC 2544, SAMComplete and TrueSpeed in an automated fashion, greatly reducing the time required to run all these tests. Higher Granularity (Kbps) for Tx bandwidth Finer granularity for Tx traffic generation rates in Ethernet applications. Allows user to enter traffic in 1kbps increments with precision of 1kbps. MEP Discovery New discovery tool for incoming OAM traffic. Lets user see what MEPs are sending OAM traffic on the network. 10 Increase old limit on maximum number of bytes allowed to be transmitted by a TCP connection in TCP WireSpeed and TCP TrueSpeed. Old limit of 4G did not allow an 8-hour test at 10G speeds. New limit of 36TB does. Enter DSCP Values as numbers Users can now specify DSCP codepoints as numbers, not just well-known names. e.g EF can now be specified as 46. Also replaces old non-standard list of Type of Service values present in WireSpeed and TrueSpeed applications with a list of standard TOS and DSCP values. RFC 2544 Latency test at less than 100% of measured throughput Can now run Latency test in RFC 2544 at a rate different from the rate determined by the Throughput test. The rate for the Latency test will be specified in percentage terms relative to the rate found in the Throughput test. Page 10 of 17

When running OTU2 applications, or multiple tests with one 10 Gbps application the unit does not charge the battery. When running a 10 GigE LAN Ethernet, OC-192, or STM- 64 test, you can run one additional test (at a lower line rate) while operating the instrument at 32 F to 95 F (0 C to +35 C) Page 16 of 17
