in Service - NTT Communications case VIETNAM IPV6 DAY 2013 NTT Communications Corporation Network Services Seiji Ariga <s.ariga at ntt dot com>
GIN ( Global IP Network ) and our capacity NTT Communications introduced next-generation service and is striving to popularize this service on a global scale. It also served as a core network provider for World Day (June 8, 2011), a global 24hour test of deployment that enabled participants to access each other's websites via addresses. In 2011, NTT Communications received the Best International Wholesale Carrier award at Telecom Asia Awards 2011 in recognition of outstanding contributions to the industry, including high service quality, effective use of the latest technology and leadership in. These awards are sponsored annually by the globally acclaimed Telecom Asia Group, Asia's largest regional telecom publishing group. Copyright NTT Communications Corporation. All right reserved. 2
OCN ( Open Computer Network ) l Largest ISP in Japan (over 8 million users) l Nation wide / dual stack backbone 3
Agenda l A sample -> transition scenario l Introduce some services Global IP Network transit service OCN (Japan domestic ISP) service Earthquake warning alert system NTT Plala s Hikari-TV IPTV service 4
A sample transition scenario 5
Our transition strategy as an ISP l End-user can enable one by one l End-user does not need to purchase any new hardware until some stage of conversion l will soon become main stream l And will remain for backward compatibility 6
NTT Communications Service Road Map Platform Services VOD on VPS server hosting (/ Dual) Trial v6 enabled VPN Connectivity Services Residential Native /v4 FTTH(domestic) Softwire Tunnel (domestic) Dual Transit (domestic) Configured Tunnel Global Backbone Dual Transit (global) Dual ADSL (domestic) Transit Europe Japan HK Other Asia Pacific, USA Trial Trial Commercial Trial Commercial Native Dual stack 7
In the beginning: only service Core Router Nationwide / International Back bone ( only) Access Concentrator One Global address Access Line (FTTH, ADSL, etc.) LAN CPE Router with NAT RFC1918 Based Private address (typically /24) End Host 8
Next: Dual stack backbone / Core Router Nationwide / International Back bone (/) Access Concentrator One Global address Access Line (FTTH, ADSL, etc.) LAN CPE Router with NAT RFC1918 Based Private address (typically /24) End Host 9
Glocal IP Network s case Pre v4 NaLve- link n".net Backbone v6 over Tunnel- link v6 v4 / Dual- link v6 v4 n".net Backbone n".net Backbone n".net / Dual Stack Backbone (Almost) only routers (5-6 world wide) connected each other via over tunnel. All (200 back then) routers becomes dual stack in one night. Since / are essencially different protocol, two networks are logically separated. 10
Now we have: Dual stack backbone / Core Router Nationwide / International Back bone (/) Access Concentrator One Global address Access Line (FTTH, ADSL, etc.) LAN CPE Router with NAT RFC1918 Based Private address (typically /24) End Host 11
Things are easy until now l We could control backbone by ourselves We can upgrade our own routers l But now we face 2 bigger issues exhaustion ü Carrier Grade NAT (CGN) service to end users ü Upgrade access device ü Upgrade CPE 12
No more 2011 April
Introducing Carrier Grade NAT / Core Router Nationwide / International Back bone (/) Second NAT Carrier Grade NAT Access Line (FTTH, ADSL, etc.) Access Concentrator One Private address from new space /10 (RFC6890) First NAT LAN CPE Router with NAT RFC1918 Based Private address (typically /24) End Host 14
Now we have some more time l There are already multiple CGN use cases in production Typically in mobile network l But now we face 1 biggest issue exhaustion ü Carrier Grade NAT (CGN) service to end users ü Upgrade access device ü Upgrade CPE l Difficulty lies in access network PPPoE client/server Layer 3 access network l Let s skip it for now! 15
Plan.1 Softwire termination on end host / Core Router Nationwide / International Back bone (/) e.g. OCN Service in 2005 Softwire Concentrator Access Concentrator Access Line (FTTH, ADSL, etc.) One Private address Softwire Client ( over L2TP) LAN CPE Router with NAT Private address Delegated prefix (from end host) 16 End Host (/)
Plan.2 Softwire termination on CPE router / Core Router Nationwide / International Back bone (/) e.g. OCN Service in 2005 Softwire Concentrator Access Concentrator Access Line (FTTH, ADSL, etc.) One Private address Softwire Client ( over L2TP) LAN Delegated prefix CPE Router with NAT & Softwire End Host (/) Private address 17
Let s go back to ISP side l But now we face 1 biggest issue exhaustion ü Carrier Grade NAT (CGN) service to end users ü Upgrade access device ü Upgrade CPE l We had been providing service by skipping difficult part l Now it s time to upgrade access network! 18
Upgrading access network, no CPE support / Core Router Nationwide / International Back bone (/) Access Concentrator (/) Access Line (FTTH, ADSL, etc.) One Private address LAN CPE Router with NAT Private address End Host (/) 19
Finally CPE router is upgraded too! / Core Router Nationwide / International Back bone (/) Access Line (FTTH, ADSL, etc.) Access Concentrator (/) One Private address prefix by DHCPv6- PD (RFC3633) LAN CPE Router with NAT & Delegated prefix End Host (/) Private address 20
And and live happily together ever after / Core Router Nationwide / International Back bone (/) Access Line (FTTH, ADSL, etc.) Access Concentrator (/) One Private address prefix by DHCPv6- PD (RFC3633) LAN CPE Router with NAT & 21 End Host (/) Private address
