5 PRODUCT DESCRIPTION HOW TO USE YOUR PRODUCT The Zepcam Mobile Video Box is a flexible and easy to use solution for wireless video surveillance for IP cameras. The Mobile Video Box comes with integrated back end software. It is an effective way to wirelessly stream and remotely manage surveillance cameras using 3G/4G or Wifi. The solution is easy to integrate with 3rd party video management software. OVERVIEW M2 MOBILE VIDEO BOX HD Front side (Fig 1.1) 1. IO : Universal Input Output (IO) connector. Contains 4 Inputs, 2 Outputs, Power Output and Ground connection V : Power input connector. This connector has a Continuous input, and a Switched input. The Continuous power supply is to power low power background processes if the unit is not powered by the Switched input. Service: If required, connect laptop here for configuring 3. IPCAM port: Connect IP Camera here. Power Over Ethernet support. (Max. 30W) 4. IP SERVICE port: Connect notebook for service, no Power Over Ethernet! 5. MIC IN: Microphone input (Not supported yet) 6. AUDIO OUT: Audio output (Not supported yet) 7. 8 Power and IO connectors Input: 1 = 3-24V ; 0 =< 0.7V Output: Sink 0.5A max, weak pull-up to 3V3 (FIG 1.3 Pinout IO and Power connectors) 1. Power connector - The power connector contains a Continuous voltage and a Switched voltage as shown in Fig IO -The 4 Input s can be used to start a video stream, video recording or can be used to boot the M2-MVB (see chapter Power settings fig 5.1). The 2 Outputs are currently not supported. The Power output is a loop through of the Power input and can be used to power a external device such as a camera. More information and FAQ on: 8

9 ACCESSING THE M2 MVB LOGIN AND NETWORK SETUP POWER CONNECTION The First step is to connect the M2-MVB to a power source. By default your M2-MVB comes with a bare leads power connector(m2-pc1), as extra options you can have a Power adapter 230v-12V (M2-PC2 ) power adapter and a cigaret plug (M2-PC3) Bare leads power connector Connect the bare leads to a Volt power supply Power adapter 230V - 12V More information and FAQ on: 9

10 Power adapter with cigaret plug You can use the cigaret plug to power the M2-MVB in a car. ANTENNA CONNECTION Recommended to use the M2-MA1 or M2-MA2 multi band dome antenna in combination with your M2-MVB More information and FAQ on: 10

11 NETWORK CONNECTION The M2-MVB on board web page can be approached via ethernet or via Wifi. You can choose one of the 3 following option to connect and setup your Zepcam MVB Option 1 Connect over a network using DHCP Connect M2-MVB to the same network as you PC is connected to. Use the PC-tool Zepcam Finder to discover the IP address of your M2-MVB. (Zepcam Finder can be downloaded from On your PC enter the IP address in your web browser to access the onboard webpage. Option 2 Connect Ethernet service port with Fallback IP Connect an Ethernet cable between your PC/laptop and the M2-MVB ethernet service port Set the network settings for your PC to : - IP adres computer : Subnet Mask : On your PC enter in your web browser to access the onboard webpage. Option 3 Via Wifi (Your PC/laptop must connect directly to the MVB network) Make sure the Wifi antenna is connected to the M2-MVB (see figure 1.2) By Default the wifi-accesspoint mode in the M2-MVB is enabled. When the wifiaccesspoint mode is disabled you can press the maintenance button 5 seconds (Beep) - The M2-MVB creates its own WiFi network with its serial number as SSID. On your computer select the Wifi network to connect to the M2-MVB On your computer open a browser (Chrome recommended) and enter Push Maintenance button again to leave maintenance (+Wifi) mode More information and FAQ on: 11

12 When entering the onboard webpage the M2-MVB will ask for a username and password (see fig 2.1). Fig 2.1: Login screen The default Username is admin and the default password is admin. after logging in you can change the password at: System -> System -> Password to: Change Timezone By default timezone in the M2-MVB is set to Europe/Amsterdam to change this setting go System -> System -> Timezone Run mode / Maintenance Mode The M2-MVB contains 2 modes: the Run mode and the Maintenance mode. In normal conditions the M2-MVB needs to be in the Run mode. Maintenance mode is necessary for: Formatting the SD card and updating the M2-MVB Switching between Run and Maintenance mode can be done by using the Maintenance button or on the onboard website go to: System -> Run mode and system -> Maintenance mode. 13 To setup an IP camera on the M2-MVB you need to go to: System -> Network Cameras ( see Fig 3.1 ) CAMERA SETTINGS SETUP AND SPECIFICITIES Fig 3.1 Camera setting The most imported setting to make a M2-MVB work with an IP camera is the rtsp URL. Each IP camera manufacturer uses it s own rtsp URL. You can always check the web page or user manual from a IP camera manufacturer to get the right rtsp URL. For a complete overview of supported cameras check Appendix A. 14 Video Stream Stream from camera to MVB Stream from M2-MVB to server Cams Resolution FPS Resolution FPS P P P P P P P P P P 25 4 D P 25 Power over Ethernet The IP CAM ethernet connector on the M2-MVB contains a 30 Watt Power over Ethernet to power a single IP POE enabled device. PTZ Cameras The M2-MVB can control PTZ (Pan Tilt Zoom) cameras. To enable this feature you need to set the PTZ mode for the Desired camera. As you can see in Fig 3.2. Change settings on a connected camera Fig 3.2 PTZ modes To change settings from a connected IP camera through the MVB you can use Port Forwarding in the M2- MVB to open the camera s webpage. 15 For example : You will try to login to the camera on IP address from Fig 3.3 and your logged in to the M2-MVB using the default Wifi IP settings. You can Enter in you web browser to open the camera s settings page. More information and FAQ on: 15

16 NETWORK SETTINGS HOW TO CONFIGURE EACH INTERFACE The M2-MVB contains a Mobile, Wifi and two Ethernet connections. Each network can be used to stream video to the Zepcam Video Server. NETWORK CONNECTION To Change the Mobile Network settings go on the onboard webpage to: Network -> Mobile The steps to setup the M2-MVB to connect to a Mobile network are: 1. Insert a Simcard with databundle Fig 4.1 Fig 4.1 Insert sim card 2. If the Simcard is PIN locked go to Network -> Mobile -> Advanced. Enter the valid PIN code in the PIN code input field and press try pincode. 3. The Mobile Status button on the bottom of the screen should stop reporting PIN locked. Enter the right APN settings. Go to Network -> Mobile -> APN settings. You can use the quick setting pulldown list. 4. (Optional) You can enter the APN settings (APN server, APN login and APN Password) manually when your SIM data is not available in the APN quick settings list. 5. There are a few advanced settings available for the Mobile network. These can be found in the page Network -> Mobile -> Advanced. The advanced settings are: Roaming: Enable this setting for using the M2-MVB in a foreign country Manual Network selection: Enter here the MMC MNC code for a specific network. Networks: Select here to use 2G, 3G and/or 4G networks. More information and FAQ on: 16

17 ETHERNET SERVICE AND ETHERNET IP CAM The M2-MVB contains two Ethernet interfaces. The IP Cam and Service interface. The IP Cam interface is set to a default ip address The Ethernet Service is set as a DHCP client with a fallback ip address These interface settings can be changed on the onboard webpage on the pages: Network ETH IP CAM and Network ETH Service Protocol: Here you can set the ethernet port to DHCP Client, DHCP server and Fixed ip Address: When the protocol is set to DHCP server or Fixed IP this is used to set the IP address for the ethernet port. When the protocol is set to DHCP client this option is used as a fallback IP address. Netmask: Set here the subnet mask for the ethernet port. Only in use when protocol is set to DHCP server or Fixed ip Gateway: Set here the default gateway for the ethernet port. Only in use when protocol is set to DHCP server or Fixed ip. dns1 and dns2: Here you can setup 2 dns servers. They are only used when the protocol is set to fixed IP. [Note] : dns is necessary when device wants to pair with cloud servers More information and FAQ on: 17

18 WIFI The M2-MVB Wifi can be used in 2 modes. The Access Point mode and the Client Mode. By default the M2-MVB is set to access point mode. Access point mode To change the access point settings Go on the onboard webpage to: Network -> Wifi -> Access Point settings Here you can change the SSID, Encryption and password. [Note] : When you keep using the accesspoint mode it is recommended to set the encryption to WPA2 Client mode The wifi client mode can be used to stream Video data to the Zepcam Video Server over Wifi. The steps to connect the M2-MVB to a network are : Go on the Onboard webpage to Network ->Wifi Set the Mode to Wifi Client Go to the tab Wifi Networks Press Add Network Enter the network details Press Save And Apply The Wifi status button on bottom of the screen should turn green when it s connected to the Wifi Network. To change the access point settings Go on the onboard webpage to: Network -> Wifi -> Access Point settings Here you can change the SSID, Encryption and password. [ Note] : When you keep using the access point mode it is recommended to set the encryption to WPA2 More information and FAQ on: 18

19 The wifi client mode can be used to stream Video data to the Zepcam Video Server over Wifi. The steps to connect the M2-MVB to a network are : Go on the Onboard webpage to Network ->Wifi Set the Mode to Wifi Client Go to the tab Wifi Networks Press Add Network Enter the network details Press Save And Apply The Wifi status button on bottom of the screen should turn green when it s connected to the Wifi Network. Advanced wifi settings Country Codes : Select here in which country you are. The M2-MVB will optimize it s settings to your country s wifi agreements. More information and FAQ on: 19

20 PRIORITY The M2-MVB will connect to the Zepcam Video Server over the highest interface in the list that is able to reach to the server. All the interfaces under the Not allowed below this line will not be used to connect to the Zepcam Video Server. Go to Network ->Network Priority to change the network Priority. See Fig 4.2. 21 NETWORK WATCHDOG To setup the Network Watchdog you need to go to: Network -> Network priority -> Network watchdog The Network watchdog is a fallback mechanism that reboots the M2-MVB when there is no Server Link in a preconfigured time. The default setting for the reboot is every 10 minutes. MOBILE HOTSPOT To use the M2-MVB as a mobile hotspot you need to enable the mobile hotspot function at Network advanced Mobile Hotspot. You need a server link over the Mobile Network to use the M2-MVB as a Mobile hotspot. More information and FAQ on: 21

22 VIDEO RECORDING & STREAMING HOW TO PAIR, RECORD & MANAGE PAIR TO SERVER To Stream video to the Zepcam Video Server the M2-MVB needs to be paired to Zepcam Video Server. Use the following steps to pair the M2-MVB to the Zepcam Video Server: 1. Login to the Zepcam Manager given by your Zepcam contact. 2. Go to Settings -> Devices -> Add Device 3. Enter a Name for the Device you want to add. 4. Press submit 5. The Zepcam Video Server will generate a code 6. Now copy the code and go on the M2-MVB on board webpage, go to: Network -> Settings -> Server Pairing. 7. Enter/past the Generated Pairing code in the Registration code field 8. Press pair [Note] : The M2-MVB needs to be able to connect to the Zepcam Video Server to complete te pairing. Be sure the mobile video box can reach the server. VIDEO COMPRESSION SETTINGS You can set the streaming setting for each interface (Mobile, Wifi and two times ethernet) on the M2-MVB. for example, go on the onboard webpage: For wifi: Network -> Wifi -> Video compression settings Or For mobile network: Network -> Mobile -> Video compression settings Or For ethernet 1: Network -> ETH IP cam -> Video compression settings Or For ethernet 2: Network -> ETH service -> Video compression settings The setting you can change are the resolution, Bitrate and GOP (Group of pictures). The settings are used when the M2-MVB uses this interface for streaming. More information and FAQ on: 22

23 START / STOP STREAM There are several ways to start/stop a Video stream from the M2-MVB, these are : Automatic start streaming at boot. Go to: System -> Startup and enable the Start streaming in the Powerup behaviour. Start/Stop button on the Zepcam Video Server. Camera events like Motion Detection (Axis Cameras only); Detection Configuration Manual available on request via support@zepcam.com Use a GPIO trigger. MANAGE AND VIEWING OF VIDEOS View live streams Live streaming is only visible in Zepcam Manager in the tab Live For more information please consult the Zepcam Manager manual Manage recordings From the onboard webpage of the Mobile Video Box, in the tab Overview ->Recordings. You can download and delete the recorded movies. You also can access the files on the M2-MVB using the build in FTP server. Go on the onboard webpage to Network -> advanced network. Here you can setup a password for the FTP server. The username is ftp. More information and FAQ on: 23

24 VIDEO RECORDING & STREAMING HOW TO PAIR, RECORD & MANAGE STORAGE SD CARD The SD card in the M2-MVB can be formatted to two different filesystem types, Fat and EXT4. The advantage of the Fat format is its compatibility with Windows. On the other hand, the EXT4 format has higher performance in the M2-MVB. [Note]: All the video are by default stored on the SD card formatted in Ext4 with encryption. Format SD card To format the SD card follow the next steps: Set the M2-MVB in Maintenance mode On the onboard website go to: System Storage In the Format Storage section press Format. After a while the Storage is formatted. More information and FAQ on: 24

25 Connect a GPS antenna to the M2-MVB. You can change the GPS settings on the System ->GPS page. For most applications the default settings should work fine. GPS [Note]: this is a powered input for an active GPS antenna. The location will be stored on the M2-MVB in a GPX file and the location will be displayed on the Zepcam Video Server. HDMI DISPLAY The HDMI Display output can be used to show the Camera settings output on a display. For altering the HDMI settings you need to go to System -> HDMI display. You can choose between several resolutions. And you can choose to show always camera 1 on the display or the same image as send to the Zepcam Video Server. More information and FAQ on: 25

26 ADVANCE USE USING AUDIO FILES The MVB can be used to play audio files using an external speaker that is connected to the speaker out connector. How to load audio files to the MVB: - Login to the onboard website of the MVB - Go to System -> Audio: - Select a audio file number in the Load Audio files menu, there are up to 4 slots available - Select the audio file you want to upload and press Upload (in the example below Sound_file.wav is selected) - You can see an overview of the loaded audio files in the Audio files section - More information and FAQ on: 26

27 EVENT HANDLING The M2-MVB can be configured for event handling. For example start streaming based motion detection. These triggers can be fed into the MVB via a connected IP camera (this is called a TCP event) or via an external device that is connected to the white IO connector of the M2-MVB (called GPIO event). Notes: - TCP event handling can only be done with a limited number of cameras - GPIO inputs are categorized into Rising Edge (switch from 0 to 1) and Falling Edge (switch from 1 to 0) How to Add a Event handling: - Login to the MVB s onboard website - Go to System -> Event handling - Set the Event source; This can be GPIO input event or a TCP event - Using the GPIO input event as your event source; You can select the Input number and you must choose between rising or a falling edge - When using a TCP event as you Event source You can enter a TCP message. This message need to start with the text Trigger when you don t enter this text the MVB will add this automatically to the string. (this feature can be used in combination with Axis motion detection, Axis Cross the line, etc.) More information and FAQ on: 27

29 SYSTEM SETTINGS BACKUP / RESTORE / RESET BACKUP / RESTORE SETTINGS To Backup the settings from the M2-MVB to your PC you can go to : System -> Backup/Flash on the onboard webpage and press Generate Backup file. To restore the settings you need to put the M2-MVB in maintenance mode. Go to: System -> Maintenance mode -> Maintenance Then go to System -> Backup/Flash. select the backup file at the Restore backup field and press Upload backup file. There are two ways to update the M2-MVB firmware. UPDATE FIRMWARE When the M2-MVB get s a report from the Zepcam Video Server that there is an update available, it is displayed on the Bottom of the screen. Press Update available to download the firmware. Press Click to install new firmware after downloading and Press Upgrade on the popup screen. The other way is to upload a firmware file to the M2-MVB. Make sure the M2-MVB is in maintenance mode. Go on the Onboard webpage to System -> Backup/ Flash. Select a firmware file in the Flash new firmware fields and press Upload firmware and press Upgrade on the popup screen. More information and FAQ on: 29

30 FACTORY RESET There are two ways to Factory reset the M2-MVB. (WARNING: you will lose all settings) You can press the RESET button on the M2-MVB for 10 seconds. The M2-MVB will automatically reboot, after a reboot the factory reset is completed. The other way to Factory reset is using the onboard webpage. Make sure the M2- MVB is in maintenance mode. Go to the System -> Backup/Flash webpage and press Reset to defaults. The M2-MVB will automatically reboot, after a reboot the factory reset is completed. [Note] After the Factory reset all the settings are back to default. So make sure you made a backup of your settings when you don t want to lose them. [Note] The sd card is not formatted with Factory reset! POWER SETTINGS The powerup settings can be changed by System -> System -> Power settings. On this webpage you can setup what triggers can be used to boot the M2-MVB. (See fig.5.1) To change the power behaviour from the M2-MVB you can go to: System -> System -> Power settings on the onboard webpage. The Power on Triggers can be used to power on the M2-MVB when it s turned off. When the M2-MVB is powered on using the Switched voltage on setting the M2-MVB can power down itself using the Switched voltage off setting. This can set to a direct power down or to a power down with a timer. There are 2 Power thresholds, When the Continuous Voltage is below it s threshold the M2-MVB will always shutdown itself. The Switched voltage threshold will only operate in combination with the Switched voltage on and Switched voltage off More information and FAQ on: 30

31 Fig 5.1 Power on triggers REBOOT/POWER OFF You can reboot and poweroff the M2-MVB by pressing one of the buttons on the onboard web page at System Reboot/Poweroff. You also can power off the M2-MVB by pressing the reset button once and you can use the switched power, this is described in the power settings chapter. LEDS AND BEEPS You can Turn off the leds and beeps by going on the onboard webpage to System Device. Here you can: enable/disable the beeps enable/disable Stealth mode. this disable the beeps and the leds (this also applies to the ethernet leds) More information and FAQ on: 31
