Lucent Technologies Cajun P332MF Version 3.0 Release Notes This document contains information related to the Cajun P332MF modular stackable switch that was not included in the User s Guide. This document also describes compatibility with Network Management software, known problems, and other information required for proper installation and use of the product. Software Versions What s New This Cajun P330 is supplied with the following software versions: Cajun P330 software: 3.0 Cajun P330 Embedded Web Manager: 3.0 Note: Please download both the new Cajun P330 software and the new Embedded Web Manager versions. Whichever version of the embedded software you decide to run, always be sure to match the correct embedded software and Embedded Web Manager versions (see also Known Issues on Page 3 and Software Versions Table on Page 6). Cajun P332MF Software Version 3.0 supports the following new features: IP Multicast filtering with IGMP snooping Software support from S/W 3.0 Hardware support from Hardware Ver. C/S 2.0 Security on CAM contents RADIUS authentication of access to the switch agent Intermodule Redundancy Also operates as a result of a module fault, e.g., power failure One pair per stack For new features in software versions previous to this one, please refer to Previous Software Versions on page 5. The command download which allows you to copy a S/W image to a module has been replaced by the copy command which allows you to Download Embedded S/W to a Module and Download Embedded Web S/W to a module. Full details are available in Chapter 6, Cajun Campus CLI - Layer 2 of the User Guide. The FIV switch is obsolete. Note: Modem via PPP (delayed to S/W Version 3.2) Catalog No Rev. 0 July
Important Notes Embedded Web Manager Operating System and Browser Support The following table shows which operating system and browser combinations are supported by the Embedded Web Manager Operating System Internet Explorer Netscape Navigator / Communicator Windows 95 (see note) Windows 98 Windows NT 4.0 Windows 2000 UNIX Versions LINUX (all versions) Netscape Navigator under Windows 95 Currently not supported Currently not supported Currently not supported Note: The Java plug-in used by the Embedded Web Manager requires certain services from Windows 95 which are not present if Internet Explorer is not installed. In order to add these services to the operating system, please install Internet Explorer version 3 or higher. You can then use either browser to manage the switch. We strongly recommend that you update all switches in the stack to the latest software version. Full documentation is available on the P330 Documentation and Utilities CD shipped with the P330 module. Mixed Stack Issues Intelligent Multicast In a Cajun P330 stack containing modules with different hardware C/S Versions, Multicast Filtering will work only on modules with C/S 2.0 or higher. Switch Reset Resetting a switch in a stack with one or more switches which have S/W Ver. 1.0.x, may reset all switches above it in the stack. 2 Cajun P332MF Version 3.0 Release Notes
Show Port Channel Command Known Issues This command will fail when it encounters a switch with software version 1.0.x. Multicast IP Multicast Filtering works only with P330 modules which have Hardware C/S Ver However, when you type a Multicast-related CLI command in a C/S Ver 1.0 module you do not get any error message (the command has no effect but there is no notification of this). To verify the Hardware compatibility of the module use the: show intelligent-multicast hardware-support command prior to issuing other IP Multicast Filtering commands. Configuration Upload The command copy module-config tftp is used to upload the module-level parameters from the current NVRAM running configuration into a file via TFTP. Please note the following important issues: 1. Before you can begin uploading, ensure that you have: a) Created an empty text file at the destination server (0 Bytes). b) You have the correct path to the file. c) The destination server is active/on. d) The destination server is reachable. 2. If an error occurred during upload (you can check this using the command show tftp upload status) you must fix the problem (see list of possible problems in item 1. above) and then perform the upload procedure again twice as follows: a) Delete the destination file and recreate a correctly named empty file at the destination server (0 Bytes) b) Type the command copy module-config tftp for the first time. c) Delete the destination file and recreate a correctly named empty file at the destination server (0 Bytes) d) Type the command copy module-config tftp again, a second time. Software Download 1. You should perform a reset after downloading software to the Module. 2. It is recommended to download software from the hard drive of the PC rather than the floppy drive. Opening RMON on the Entire Stack You may receive an SNMP error when you try to open RMON on index 100 (the entire stack) if there is a Cajun P333R in the stack. Cajun P332MF Version 3.0 Release Notes 3
Fast Ethernet Flow Control CRC Errors When flow control is selected on the Fast Ethernet ports, some CRC errors may appear at high traffic loads. The packets themselves are transmitted correctly and the errors are due to the flow control mechanism cutting the packets. Tx LED When flow control is implemented on a port with no link, the Tx light blinks even though no data are transmitted. Gigabit Ethernet Port LED (C/S lower than 2.0) When a Gigabit Ethernet port is in auto-negotiation mode and the Link is Down, the LNK (Link) LED should blink. Instead, the LED is OFF. Physical Location Field When you enter a location name in the Physical Location field of the CajunView Device Manager's Global Device Parameter Window or you use the Command Line Interface's (CLI) set system command to enter a location name and later delete this name, you will get an error message. To solve this problem you should always leave at least one character (even a blank space) in the Physical Location Field. Redundant Cable We recommend that you use a redundant cable when implementing a stack with more than two switches (please refer to the Cajun P330 User s Guide for details). Disabling Spanning Tree Protocol (STP) When you disable STP, blocking ports are disabled in order to prevent loops in the network. As a result, you should wait 30 seconds before disabling STP in the following circumstances: If you reset the switch If you enabled STP If you insert a new station Spanning Tree Protocol and Redundancy When the Spanning Tree Algorithm is not enabled, local resiliency is obtained by using the Port Redundancy features of the Cajun P330. This feature allows you to create pairs of links, in which a Primary link is backed up by a Secondary link. You cannot activate Port Redundancy and Spanning Tree simultaneously. 4 Cajun P332MF Version 3.0 Release Notes
Port Mirroring When you remove an expansion module from the stack, copy port definitions are reset. Port mirroring should be within the same VLAN. Port mirroring enables you to troubleshoot your network by defining a source port and a destination port. Once this is defined, the destination port reflects all traffic from the source port. You should delete the existing Source and Destination port definitions for Copy Port before defining a new pair in order to prevent improper mirroring due to the old definition. Ports which are members in a Link Aggregation Group (LAG) cannot also be used as Port Mirroring Destination or Source ports. LAG When a port is being used either a Port Mirroring Source or Destination port, it cannot also be a member of a Link Aggregation Group (LAG). GIGA Auto-negotiation Interoperability The 3-COM GIGA NIC (Revision A # 3C985SX only) cannot establish a link when in Auto-negotiation mode. This problem has been fixed in Revision B of the 3-COM NIC. Previous Software Versions Version Changes 2.0 Embedded Web Manager this allows you to configure a stack of Cajun P330 switches using a standard Web browser. Upload/Download configuration file (via the CLI) you can save the stack configuration on your computer, edit it there and upload it to the stack. 2.2 Support for X330G2 Expansion Module Support for Cajun P334T Module 2.4 Support for the Cajun X330 ATM Access sub-module Support for the Cajun X330GT2 sub-module (two copper Gigabit Ethernet 1000Base-T ports) New Command Line Interface Command: ping Cajun P332MF Version 3.0 Release Notes 5
