1 Lucent Technologies Cajun M770 ATM Switch, M15-155F Module Release Notes Introduction This document contains information relating to the M15-155F ATM module, with S/W Version Related Documents Important Notes Cajun M770 Multifunction Switch ATM Switch User's Guide M15-155F Installation Guide LECS Behavior Inserting a module with a local LECS or defining a module to have a local LECS starts the LECS election process, and the LECS on this module can become the new active LECS. As soon as a LECS is elected as active, all of the LESs in the network will register their addresses with the new active LECS. If the new active LECS is not defined with the ELAN database for all ELANs (active LESs) in the network, these LESs will not be activated and all users for these ELANs will be thrown off the network. Modules from the factory are configured with remote LECS. If there is no need to configure a local LECS, this module will not cause problems. In order to protect the network, perform the following steps when defining a new LECS: 1. First create a LECS with priority '0' to ensure that the LECS will not be elected. The following command will create a local LECS with priority '0' and advertising the well known address: 2. Define all of the ELANs that the LECS will host. The following command creates the ELAN in the ELAN database. Create an ELAN for every LES that is active (or will be active) in your network. 3. Change the LECS to an appropriate priority. The default priority is 128. The higher the priority, the higher the chance that the LECS will be elected as active. The following command changes the priority to 128. For further information on how to define LANE Servers, see Chapter 14 - Managing the LECS, Chapter 15 - Managing the LES/BUS and Chapter 16 - Managing an ELAN in the M770 ATM Switch User's Guide. Warning: Before creating a local LECS or inserting a module with a local LECS, ensure that the ELAN database contains all of the information needed to support the active LESs on the network. Catalog No Rev. 0. April,
2 Module Behavior When defining a local LECS on a module, use the well known address (wka) for the LECS. Do not use the module s address with a different selector. If you want to use a LECS address that is not the well known address, please contact Lucent Technical Support. Known Problems When limiting the vport vcirange, change only the upper limit. DO NOT CHANGE THE LOWER LIMIT. The vcirange default is To limit the number of SVCs to 800, change the vport vcirange to For further information on managing vports see Chapter 6 Managing Virtual Ports in the M770 ATM Switch User's Guide. AAL5 Traffic EPD (Early Packet Discard) is enabled by default to 80%. If you disable EPD and a reset occurs, EPD returns to its default value of enabled. However, the value shown in the CLI is disabled. If you create a PVC that will not transmit AAL5 traffic, do not define the PVC traffic descriptor as UBR. If for any reason the PVC needs to be UBR, then disable EPD. IP Address Discovery BootP is not supported. An IP address must be defined manually using the command: For further information on defining IP addresses, see Chapter 4 Managing Miscellaneous Commands in the M770 ATM Switch User's Guide. Module LEDs The SRV LED is not supported in this version. Software Download After an Xmodem download, wait until the module completes an automatic reset (this may take 2 minutes). If the module does not recover after the reset, reset the module manually. For more information on xmodem downloads, see Appendix B, Using BOOT Loader, in the M770 ATM Switch User's Guide Reset Caused by illegal vport Command If the following commands are used on a vport that is not present on the module, the module will reset (the first digit in the vport should be identical to the slot number): For example, setting the vpirange to [0..0] for vport on module 8 in the switch will cause a reset:!!"# $%%%% 2 M15-155F Release Notes
3 IISP Behavior If an M770 ATM Switch is connected to a switch via IISP and has 2 static routes connected to it, the static routes must be defined with the same number of bytes to the destination IISP switch address. For further information on adding Static Routes, see Chapter 9 Managing Static Routing in the M770 ATM Switch User's Guide. Remote Resilient LECS Behavior (LECS on the M770 connected via a 3 rd party switch) It is NOT recommended to define resilient LECS on M770 ATM switches that are connected together via 3 rd party switches. When using Remote Resilient LECS, only use 2 resilient LECS. If there are more than 2 resilient LECS and there is a reset to a module with one of the LECS, the defined remote resilient LECS will be erased. Where to Get the Software In order to benefit from the latest features, the module must use the latest software version. Modules loaded with earlier versions should be upgraded by performing a software download. To check what software version you have, typein the Command Line Interface (CLI) of the module or open the CajunView management software module-configuration screen. The latest software is shipped with the M15-155F module. FTP You can also download the new version from the Lucent Technologies Networks' FTP server: To connect to the FTP server, from a PC or workstation, enter the following commands: &'()%(%()%! or &'*%% You will be prompted to enter your user name and password. Use the following name and password: +," - " This will log you into the site and provide you with read-only access to the relevant directories. Downloadable software for the Cajun M770 modules is placed under the directory ). Use the "cd" (change directory) to switch to the directory for the product:.../ To download the latest agent and BOOT Loader codes first type the command: & )#.../# %%0 M15-155F Release Notes 3
4 Download the code to your station by using the "bin" command followed by the "mget" command. & * & 1 The Filename of the agent code is!!23 %%%0 The Filename of the agent code is!!23 *%%%0 (bl=lowercase BL not B1) World-Wide Web You can also download the latest agent software from the Lucent Networks Web Site. 1. Go to the Lucent Networks Software Download Site using your WWW browser: 2. Click on the Cajun M770 icon ( ). 3. Click on M15-155F version 1.0.x in the list of Cajun M770 Latest Software Versions to download the file. Details of the file size and accompanying documentation are given for each software version. How To Download Software to the Module Software download is most easily performed via SNMP using a CajunView network management station. Instructions can be found in the in the Download Manager User s Guide (CajunView 1.6). To download to an M15-155F module, you need to install CajunView 1.6 Update 3. You can obtain this update at the following Web Site: Click on the CajunView Montage icon, then on the next page select CajunView in the "Available Software Updates" section and click "Go!". All the available Updates are listed on the following web page. Software download can also be performed via TFTP using a terminal connected to the module. Full download instructions can be found in the module s User's Guide. 4 M15-155F Release Notes
