9 Why we were peering 5 years ago - When starting, cost reduction was main target - High volume/bandwidth for CDN/BitTorrent traffic, only a few peaks per month - High costs on transit ports, price per Mbps, commitment, costs for overcommit - IXP has fixed price and due to BitTorrent characteristics, we could use ports with 100% utilization - Traffic optimization was the nice benefit for the network engineers 9
