1 Management Access Configuring the HAR11 first requires connecting to its Web Interface. To do this, connect a PC to the LAN port using a straight-thru Ethernet cable. Configure the PC and launch the web browser as described below. HAR11 Defaults The HAR11 s default LAN port addressing is: IP Address: Subnet Mask: The default sign in is: User Name: admin Password: hawkingtech PC Setup The PC s IP address can be set up either dynamically using DHCP to automatically obtain an address from the HAR11 s LAN (Ethernet) port, or statically by assigning to the PC a static IP address in the HAR11 s IP subnet, such as Manage the CPE 1. Launch the web browser. 2. Type the default IP address, into the URL window. 3. Enter the default User Name and Password in the appropriate boxes. The Device Status page should display on the browser screen. Go to the EZ Setup Section All configuration in this document refers to the EZ Setup section. From the Device Status page, access EZ Setup from the selections at the top of the page. The initial screen is the WAN configuration screen. 2of 8

2 Basic Bridging Configuration The Bridging Configuration provides a transparent connection between the subscriber and the service provider through the CPE and Viadux This basic configuration describes the minimum effort to get the CPE operating as a bridge. After implementing this configuration, the CPE will operate as a simple learning bridge, providing a transparent data path between the ADSL link to the Viadux 8500 and the subscriber s LAN. It will also provide DHCP service to the LAN. All basic configuration is done from the EZ Setup WAN Screen. The CPE will, by default, be manageable from the LAN side only. Procedure 1. Set the Encapsulation parameter to 1483 Bridged IP LLC 2. Set the Bridge parameter to Enable 3. Click the Submit button at the bottom of the page. 4. Go to the Save screen and click the Submit button. 5. It is highly recommended that the DHCP server be turned off in bridge mode. Explanation Encapsulation The protocol encapsulation that is used to transport the traffic over the ATM PVC is set in the box near the center of the EZ Setup WAN page. This must be set correctly or traffic will not pass through the PVC. Bridge The Bridging function is turned on or off by the Bridge parameter in the box below the Encapsulation entry box. Enabled is Bridge mode, Disabled is Routed mode. DHCP Server The DHCP server is enabled by default. When operating in bridge mode, the DHCP server may cause address conflicts. This is due to the server on each CPE issuing the same addresses their own subscribers. In bridge mode, the subscribers traffic is mixed in the bridge and at the edge router. Duplicated addresses will cause traffic streams to fail. Turn off the DHCP server as described in the Additional Configuration Procedures section. 3of 8

3 Submit and Save the Changes Clicking the Submit button accepts the changes. After clicking, the changes are stored but not implemented in the running configuration. The changes will not be implemented until the automatic reboot that occurs after the Submit button on the Save screen is clicked. 4of 8

4 Basic Routing Configuration The Routing Configuration provides routed services between the subscriber and the service provider through the CPE and Viadux This includes the use of the DHCP Server on the LAN side as well as a NAPT function for all subscriber traffic. This basic configuration describes the minimum effort to get the CPE operating as a router. After implementing this configuration, the CPE will operate as a router. By default, the HAR11 provides NAPT services to traffic passing through the CPE and DHCP service to the LAN. All basic configuration is done from the EZ Setup WAN Screen. The CPE will, by default, be manageable from the LAN side only. Procedure 1. Configure the WAN address, subnet mask, and default gateway. 2. Set the Encapsulation parameter to 1483 Bridged IP LLC. 3. Leave the Bridge parameter at Disable, keeping the CPE in router mode. 4. Click the Submit button at the bottom of the page. 5. Go to the Save screen, click the Submit button. Explanation WAN Addressing The WAN address is the outside address used by the NAPT function. The source address of any outbound subscriber traffic will be changed to this address. Set the subnet mask to allow access to the WAN-side subnet and the default gateway to the service provider s router address. Encapsulation The protocol encapsulation that is used to transport the traffic over the ATM PVC is set in the box near the center of the EZ Setup WAN page. 6 Additional Configuration Procedures The Basic configuration allows routed or bridged traffic to flow across the CPE with a minimal amount of configuration. However, the basic configurations described above may not be exactly what are required. Following are some additional configuration parameters that may require changing. Remote Management By default, the HAR11 can only be managed from the LAN side of the CPE. However, the CPE can be configured to be managed from the WAN side for remote management capability as well. Parameters on the LAN Configuration screen determine the management address used to configure and monitor the HAR11 from the LAN side during operation. To enable remote (WAN side) management, first go to the EZ Setup -> WAN Config screen. On the WAN screen, enter the WAN address and subnet mask in the appropriate boxes. Be sure to click the Submit button at the bottom of the screen. Next, access the Advanced Setup -> Misc Config screen. At the top of the Misc screen, under the HTTP Server Access heading, click on the WAN checkbox. Enter the CPE s WAN address and subnet mask in the appropriate boxes. Be sure to click the Submit button at the bottom of the screen. Save the changes. Permanent Virtual Circuit VPI and VCI The default values are VPI = 8, VCI = 35. These values work well but other values may be used if necessary. When creating the PVC on the Viadux 8500 s ADSL port, ensure that the VPI and VCI match those of the HAR11 PVC. If the VPI or VCI need to be changed, they are found on the EZ Setup -> WAN Config screen. LAN IP Address & Subnet Mask If the default IP address is not part of the subscriber s subnet, or conflicts with an existing address, change the IP address and subnet mask on the EZ Setup -> LAN Config screen. Set the address to be part of the subscriber s LAN subnet. Set the subnet mask to match that of the LAN subnet. DHCP Server The LAN configuration screen configures the DHCP server. This allows DHCP services to be provided to the subscriber s LAN. The DHCP server is enabled by default in both the bridged and routed modes but should be disabled in bridge mode to prevent address conflicts in the 8500 and edge router. 7of 8

7 The server, by default, provides up to 12 addresses in the address pool. If this is not enough, and if the LAN subnet supports it, the range can be expanded to up to 253 addresses in the pool. The range of addresses in the DHCP pool must be contained within the LAN subnet. To turn off the DHCP server, clear the DHCP Server checkbox on the EZ Setup -> LAN Config screen. DNS Configuration Screen In order for the subscribers to access the Internet, the DNS addresses must be specified. By default, the DNS address given to the subscribers PCs by the DHCP server is the CPE s LAN IP address. The CPE then functions as a DNS request proxy. Enter the Primary and Alternate DNS servers as provided by the service provider. Submit and Save the Changes Clicking the Submit button accepts the changes.
