1MRS SYS 600C Configuration 5.1. Overview of configuration The following sections provide general information about the required configuration steps. Detailed steps for configuration can be found from the SYS 600 customer documentation. All the referenced manuals are included in the product package as PDF files on sc\documentation\en folder of SYS 600C Backing up and restoring Taking backup We recommend that you back up SYS 600C with a USB CD-ROM drive and a disc imaging software (for example Acronis True Image or Norton Ghost) that can be used by booting directly from the CD. The image should be saved to a network drive or to a USB flash drive. It may be necessary to create a special bootable CD to include support for USB or network chipsets used in SYS 600C. Refer to the instructions from your disc imaging software manufacturer on how to accomplish this. If this method is used, the backup creation does not require removing any components, or opening the chassis, as the USB-connector on the front panel can be used. If more than one USB device is required, the connectors on the rear panel or a self-powered USB hub can be used. No matter which method is used to create the image, it is important to create the image of the whole compact flash disc, not just the single partition. To back up SYS 600C: 1. Connect the USB CD-ROM to the front panel USB connector. 2. Power on SYS 600C. 3. When the BIOS POST screen is displayed, press the DEL key to enter the setup. 4. Ensure that the USB CD-ROM is set as the first device in the boot order. 5. Save changes and exit the setup. 6. Boot from the disc imaging software CD. 7. Create the disc image with the imaging software. The created image can be saved on the USB flash drive or to a network drive, depending on what the used imaging software supports. 8. Restart the system and restore the previous first boot device in the setup. An alternative way of creating duplicate backup CF-cards is with a hardware duplicator. Such devices require the CF-card to be removed from SYS 600C. The destination flash must be available immediately. Refer to the manual of your hardware duplicator for instructions on how to create backups with it. 15

SYS 600C MRS Desktop PC with CF to IDE adapter and imaging software can be used to create the backup image. In this case the backup does not differ from creating a full hard disc image. Follow the instructions in your imaging software manual on how to create full hard disc image. If a compact flash card reader is used for creating or restoring the disc image, the functionality of the resulting backup should be tested. Often when bootable CF-cards are copied with such devices, the required boot sectors are not copied properly and it is not possible to boot the system from the card. Therefore using such devices is not recommended. Restoring backup The method for restoring the disc image depends on the method used to create the image. CF cards duplicated with hardware duplicator do not require any additional steps, as the duplicate card is already a copy of the original. If the recommended method was used, there are several possibilities. You can use either SYS 600C, or any desktop PC with compatible imaging software and CF to IDE adapter. Generic USB CF readers or builtin card readers found in many laptops should not be used, as the resulting compact flash disc may not boot correctly. If SYS 600C is used: 1. Power off the device. 2. Open the chassis. 3. Replace the original CF card with the target CF. 4. Follow the instructions about creating the backup, but instead of creating the image restore it to the target CF card. 5. Boot the system from the target flash and check that the backup works correctly. If a desktop PC is used: 1. Power off the computer. 2. Install CF to IDE adapter to the computer. 3. Connect the target flash to CF to IDE adapter. 4. Power on the computer. 5. Use the disc imaging software to restore the backup image to the CF card. 6. Power off the system. 7. Remove the target flash card from the IDE to CF adapter. If the image backup is restored to another machine (for example, a SYS 600C spare computer) than from which it was originally taken, do the following. This also applies if the storage media is transferred from one computer to another. 16

1MRS SYS 600C 1.93 Computers with Windows XP: 1. Boot up the spare computer and replace the Windows product key with the one printed on the spare computer license label. You can do this with the KeyUpdater tool available from Microsoft. 2. Reactivate the operating system by phone or via Internet. Follow the instructions given on the screen. 3. Make sure of the following: The drivers of all devices are installed correctly. There are no unknown/non-functional devices in the Device Manager. The IP addresses are assigned correctly and the addresses are assigned to correct interfaces. Although the following procedure applies also to computers running XP, it is recommended to use the KeyUpdater tool. Computers with Windows 2003 Server: 1. Log into the spare computer and remove the following files. Removing these files will make the computer unusable until it is reactivated. C:\windows\system32\wpa.dbl C:\windows\system32\wpa.bak C:\windows\system32\wpabaln.exe 2. Restart the computer. 3. Log in and start the reactivation process. 4. Select I want to activate by telephone. 5. Click Change Product Key and write the product key written on the computer's Certificate of Authenticity label. 6. Proceed with activation according to the instructions given on the screen. 7. Make sure of the following. The drivers of all devices are installed correctly. There are no unknown/non-functional devices in the Device Manager. The IP addresses are assigned correctly and the addresses are assigned to correct interfaces. Backing up and restoring only the SYS 600 application It is also possible to backup only the SYS 600 application. This requires some additional steps, but has the advantage that the application can be moved to a system using different hardware, different operating system or a newer SYS 600 version. 17

SYS 600C MRS To backup only the SYS 600 application: 1. Make sure that the SCADA system is not running and copy the following: \SC\APL\'application name' folder \SC\SYS\active\sys_\* (System configuration and startup options) \SC\prog\graphicsEngine\Palette (if non-default symbols are used) \SC\prog\graphicsEngine\etc\ObjNav.ini \SC\prog\sa_lib\default_SDAIActiveBar_Prj.tb2 \SC\prog\sa_lib\default_FrameWindow.ini \SC\sa_lib\defaults\icons (if non-default icons are used) \SC\APL\'application name'\aplmod4\defaults\icons (if non-default icons are used) \SC\sa_lib\defaults\misc (if non-default login dialog picture is used) \SC\APL\'application name'\aplmod4\defaults\misc (if non-default login dialog picture is used) 2. If IEC61850 communication is used, export the configuration with the Communication Engineering Tool. 3. Copy the External OPC DA Client configuration files. By default, these files are saved to \SC\SYS\active\sys_ and are copied with the system configuration, but the files can also be saved elsewhere in the system. To restore the SYS 600 application backup: 1. Restore the application folder to \SC\APL\ and the system configuration to \SC\SYS\active\sys_. 2. Copy any additional files copied during the backup to correct locations. 3. If IEC61850 was used, import the exported project with the Communication Engineering Tool. 4. In the Management tab of the computer object of the Communication Engineering Tool, select the Reset checkbox and run the update & reload configuration. 5. Fix the CLSIDs in DA Client configuration files to match the new CLSIDs of the new computer. You can find the CLSIDs with the Softing client or from the \SC\prog\61860 OPC Server\bin\OPCS_IEC61850_*\instance.ini files, under the DAServerClsId key. Run-time data backup For run-time data backup, see the instructions in the SYS 600 Installation and Administration manual. 18

1MRS SYS 600C Configuration process System server SYS 600C contains the default description of system server configuration composing of objects and definitions for the base system and process communication units. Adjust the default template file, that is, \sc\sys\active\sys_\sys_bascon$com, in accordance with the requirements of the SYS 600C in question. For information about system server configuration, see SYS 600 System Configuration Process communication All the process communication units connected to SYS 600C are introduced by the necessary system configuration methods and application engineering steps. This introduction can be made either manually, or automatically using the engineering tools included in SYS 600C. Master protocols Depending on the type of process communication units in SYS 600C, different configuration steps are needed. When connecting process communication units to SYS 600C by using protocols, refer to the protocol-specific manual (see 2.7, Related documents). If no protocol-specific manual is available, the configuration is described in System Objects manual. 26 SYS 600C MRS Troubleshooting and support 7.1. Troubleshooting Problem: When I disconnect the cable from the VGA connector of running SYS 600C, the display does not wake up, when I reconnect the cable. Solution: 1. Ensure that the cable is properly attached to the VGA connector. 2. Power on the display. 3. Press CTRL + ALT + F1 to activate the display card chipset manually. 4. If this does not help, reboot SYS 600C. 5. Before the Windows logo appears, press F8 and select boot in VGA mode. 6. Then remove the display drivers, reboot the system, and reinstall the display driver. Problem: During the serial line Process or upper level NCC communication within the SYS 600C, I can sometimes see that the Diagnostics Counters for these communication lines are increasing related to the occurrred Timeouts, Parity or Framing errors. I can also detect that LEDs for these same lines within the SYS 600C front panel are not blinking symmetrically. Solution: For the Process communication remember always to use shielded communication cables to minimize the effect of electrical disturbances to the communication lines connected to SYS 600C. The maximum shield is provided, when the shield of communication cable has been wired to the DB9 connectors in both ends. The additional equipments, for example, gender changers or DB9 adaptors, should not be used together with serial cables. For more information about serial cable wiring requirements, see SYS 600 product documentation Technical support If you cannot solve the technical problem, contact ABB SA-D Support Line. When contacting, inform the technical support about the SYS 600C product information. The required product information is located in the right edge of device front panel. 26
