2 PCM30U, User's, Operating and Maintenance Manual B Device Description B.1 General Description is a part of the E1-E2 PCM30U transmission system. It is designed especially for transmission of EHV line protection digitised signals and for the transmission of commands but also voice and data signals in power distribution networks. The transmission is implemented via optical cables as part of the primary stream of a higher-order system or (with external modem) via metallic cables. The device consists of the central part and the channel plug-in units allowing for connection of all commonly used types of line protection. The entire range of PCM30U channel units may be used for transmission of voice and data. The device is provided with Drop-Insert and Cross-Connect functions, allowing for interconnecting channels of 64 kbps between local channel units and up to 4 external directions of the 2 Mbps signals. Software changes enable up to 2 of the external directions to be multiplexed to the 2nd order stream, with the possibility of adding other external primary streams. The device includes an integrated control system enabling monitoring control of even large networks of and other transmission devices produced by TTC. The device s core is a 1st order PCM multiplexer with integrated Drop-Insert and Cross- Connect functions, located on the CJAB central unit. The multiplexer combines the digitised protection signals, commands and telephone and data signals from local channel units into a 2 Mbit/s stream. The Cross-Connect matrix allows for interconnecting of 64 kbps channels between local channel units and up to 4 external 2 Mbps directions. Two of the four external directions are terminated on the CJAB unit in a RM1 balanced interface, all four directions may be used in connection with the JR interface unit. The JR unit s modular concept makes it possible to build set ups supporting: the 3rd and 4th (bal./unbal.) RM1 interface (designated as JRM); combination of the RM1 interface and the optical line terminal (JRMO); or a set of two optical line terminals (JROO). After upgrading the FW in JRO or JROO unit, it is possible to connect one or two 2nd order multiplexers placed on the unit, creating various operating options. The 1st order signal of the local multiplexer is always among the 2nd order contributory streams, the other three contributory streams may be external (JRMO as a 2nd order terminal multiplexer). The JROO option as an intermediate 2nd order multiplexer enables Drop-Insert of 64 kbps channels from a chosen 2 Mbps contributory stream, termination of two contributory streams from a selected direction(s) and transit of the remaining contributory streams. Special and standard channel units are linked to the central multiplexer section. These are RO3 and ROR units for 50 Hz signal transmission, PBS unit for teleprotection transmission, and DOxx, FX, SOCxx and SLXX units for optical interface connection of Line Current Differential Protections. The RO3 unit is designed for connection of line comparative protections which communicate with a 4- wire interface (such as S 103B, S 105 ZPA Trutnov, DLN 910 ABB) within the connection path Device Description B-3 446S N00

Accuracy and minimal transmission delay on a unit for processing of two bidirectional 50 Hz signals are secured by 16 khz frequency sampling. Minimal phase deviation also allows for use of the unit for phase transmission. The ROR unit was developed in cooperation with Russian professionals. It includes a modernized comparative circuit version taken from the DZL2 comparative protection and enables connection of these 2 wire protections (used in the former USSR states) via the device. The PBS unit performs contact transfer and enables, besides command transmission, also interconnection of distance and sheath protections of EHV lines with the output relay contact (such as RELZ 100 SIEMENS, REL ABB). The unit contains four bi-directional channels with a high safety level, which it selectively inserts into one or two channel intervals. The unit is equipped with a communication path failure signalling system, level filtering of interfering signals and adjustable time digital filtering. The exact time of the command transmission is registered in the central part of the device and recorded by the management system in its database. Interconnection of digital protections with optical interface and standard communication over a 19,2 kbit/s data channel is provided by the DO1 unit (comparative protections 7SD511, 512 by SIEMENS), communication over a 64, 256 or 512 kbit/s data channel is provided by the SOC unit (comparative protections 7SD52, 7SD61 by SIEMENS. Interconnection of digital protections SEL311L with optical interface is provided by the SL8, SL13 unit. The FX unit may be used for connection to non-standard interfaces of the ABB digital protections (REL316 and REL551). Standard telephone units of the PCM30U system also enable a "hot line" connection or connection of a distant subscriber (LB, UII16K, UI16K), interconnection of 2-wire or 4-wire exchanges (EM2P, EM4P), interconnection of 3-wire exchanges (KPR2, PKR2) and provision of internal (UT) or external (DIK) dispatcher circuit. The RAD and RDA units provide transmission of stereo radio signal or another wide band analogue signal. Data units offer the whole range of commonly used synchronous and asynchronous transmission rates, from 50 Bd to kbps, using standard types of data interfaces (PDK, DO4, DO5, S64, P64, RK, DV24, DX21). The DTE unit enables interconnection between LAN networks with selectable speed. Device Description B-4 446S N00

Transmission reliability can be increased by doubling the transmission path between stations or by redundant transmission over two parallel sessions. For transmission of other telecommunication channels, interconnection of control or network synchronization, the device should be connected into transmission networks with varying structures, using additional outside directions of the 1st or 2nd order signals. A failure in the surrounding network does not influence the transmission of commands or protection signals. 8 PCM30U, User's, Operating and Maintenance Manual DORIS 2000 NET software, the management system of device, is a universal management system designed for all transmission systems manufactured by TTC. In a network of mutually connected / PCM30U stations, the management channel is transmitted in the S4/NOTFAS service bit, that is without the need for an additional transmission capacity. On each device, the management channel is accessible on the M interface. Management of /PCM30U devices not interconnected by 2 Mbit/s may be interconnected at the M interface level within one location. At any network point, it is possible to connect the RJ1 control plugin to the M interface in order to manage up to 64 network elements, i.e. the CJABs. The RJ1 unit also converts the M interface to Q interface, where management units from different locations and connection to a port of a DORIS-equipped PC is possible. The system conforms to EMCresistance standards. The device has a modern design with a logical layout of controls and LED indicators. In the first type of subrack there is a total of 21 plug-in unit positions. Positions 5 to 15 are intended for standard telephone and data channel units, or DO1, SOC, SL and FX units.. Position 16 contains the central CJAB unit, position 17 and 18 contains the JRxx/1 and JRxx/2 interface unit. Positions 19 and 20 are intended for the NP107/1 and NP107/2 power supply, position 21 may be used for the RJ1 control unit The cabling of power interfaces is terminated at the back, each conductor may be easily and quickly mounted using screw terminals in the direction of the conductor axis. Terminals connected to cables are mounted onto opposite terminals provided on the PBS and RO3 or ROR units. The telecommunication channel cables are led in from the back and into the communication boardmounted connectors, or, via push-on connectors, to the prolonged connectors of the individual channel positions. The RM1 interface of the CJAB unit for the A and B directions is terminated on the communication board connectors CAN9M, the RM1 interface for the C and D directions on the front panel of the JRM (JRMO) unit. FC/PC optical connectors are provided on the front panel of the JRO (JROO) unit. The device also includes a connector for interconnection of two devices during a full-safety operation. The mechanical structure used, with guaranteed EMI resistance, as well as the individual circuit solutions, ensures reliable operation even in a strong interference environment. High reliability is also ensured by temperature ageing, seasoning, and careful testing of each unit during manufacturing.
