Introduction Xtenda X550 doesn t support webcam and microphone. For this reason, we were unable to use our Xtenda X550 setup for Do It Yourself and various other activities of our courses.

3 Introduction Xtenda X550 doesn t support webcam and microphone. For this reason, we were unable to use our Xtenda X550 setup for Do It Yourself and various other activities of our courses. Now, we can use this system by doing certain changes in our existing Xtenda server machine. This document is divided into 4 following sections: 1. Hardware requirements of the setup 2. Tentative cost of the setup 3. Connectivity Diagram 4. Procedure to connect the setup 5. Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) Section 1: Hardware Requirements of the setup This setup is divided into 3 categories: A. Material which you need to buy B. Material which you need to buy 1) 4 Ports USB 3.0 Hub PCIE Controller Card with power (Quantity 1) This card is required to provide extra USB ports to the Xtenda server machine. 4 2) USB to Audio Converter (Quantity 5) This converter is used to connect microphone to a USB port. 3) 3.5mm Male to Female Stereo Audio Extension Cable 3 Meters (9 feet length) (Quantity 5) This cable is required to connect headphone s mic to Xtenda Server. 4) USB extension cables: meters (5 feet length) Quantity 5 This cable is used to extend length of webcam cable so that it can be extended to every client. It shall have minimum 6 spare USB ports and 2 spare PCIe slots. In place 2 PCIe slots, 1 PCIe and 1 PCI will also work. It shall have Windows 7 Enterprise Edition SP1 (64-bit).

5 B. Material which you need to buy if not available with you 5) Intel Core i3 2nd generation, 3.3 GHz with 4 cores, 8 GB RAM, 500GB HDD For this setup to run, we need minimum i3 (2 nd generation) processor with 8GB RAM and 500GB Hard disk. It shall have minimum 6 spare USB ports and 2 spare PCIe slots. In place 2 PCIe slots, 1 PCIe and 1 PCI will also work. It shall have Windows 7 Enterprise Edition SP1 (64-bit). 6) 500 Watt SMPS The server machine shall a 500W SMPS mandatorily, as the power requirements of the setup is a bit higher. If current server is having an SMPS with 500W power ratings, then no need to change. Figure Watt SMPS 7) PCIe to PCI Converter Card (Quantity 1) a.) This card is used to connect Xtenda X550 card to a PCIe slot. This card is not required if the server s motherboard has a spare PCI slot. Two variants of this card are available in the market. b.) The PCIe to PCI converter card shown above is preferred.

Xtenda X550 card is raised by approx. 2 inches.

6 b.) The PCIe to PCI converter card shown above is preferred. However, in case of unavailability of above card we can also go for the card given below. For connecting this card in the CPU Cabinet, we may need to alter the CPU Cabinet. Because of structure of this card and the height of the PCI slot the Xtenda X550 card is raised by approx. 2 inches. As the height of Xtenda card is increased, 2-3 client ports on the card becomes hidden. So in order to use these hidden ports, you may have to cut the CPU housing from behind as shown in the image below: You may have to cut this part CPU Cabinet will look like this VER-4 6 Click here to download the latest version of this document

Section 4: Procedure to connect the setup Part 1: Hardware Setup Step 1 Mount 500 Watt SMPS on the Xtenda server machine Note: If the server already has an SMPS of 500W or more power

0 Card in PCIe slot on server motherboard and connect power. Now based on your motherboard, you will have either 1 PCIe slot or 1 PCI slot as spare. Figure 1-4 Port USB 3.

14 Section 4: Procedure to connect the setup Part 1: Hardware Setup Step 1 Mount 500 Watt SMPS on the Xtenda server machine Note: If the server already has an SMPS of 500W or more power ratings, then no need to change the SMPS. Power rating of the SMPS can be checked by visually checking the details written on the SMPS. Step 2 Mount 4 port USB 3.0 Card in PCIe slot on server motherboard and connect power. Now based on your motherboard, you will have either 1 PCIe slot or 1 PCI slot as spare. Figure 1-4 Port USB 3.0 Hub PCIE Note: As instructed in the requirements document, minimum 2 PCIe or 1 PCI and 1 PCIe slot is required for this setup. 1 PCIe slot will be occupied by this card. In case the server machine already has a spare PCI slot then this step can be skipped.

15 Step 3 Mount PCIe to PCI Converter Card on Motherboard if there is no spare PCI slot on your server s motherboard. Note: This converter is only required when your machine doesn t have a spare PCI slot. In case the server machine already has a spare PCI slot then this step can be skipped. Step 4 Based on your motherboard, mount Xtenda Card on PCIe to PCI Converter or on the existing PCI slot of the motherboard. VER-4 15 Click here to download latest version of this document

16 Step 5 Out of 5 USB Extension Cables, insert male port of 3 USB extension cables on motherboard and male port of 2 USB extension cables on USB 3.0 PCIe card. Repeat this for all audio extension cables and USB audio adapters.

17 Step 7 Out of 5, insert 3 USB audio adapters on motherboard and 2 USB audio adapters on USB 3.0 PCIe card. Step 8 Connect male port of Audio extension cable into the mic port of the USB audio adapter. Repeat this for all audio extension cables and USB audio adapters. Female Port Male Port Step 9 Connect mic jack of the headphone to female port of the Audio extension cable. Repeat this for all mics and audio extension cables. 18 Step 10 Make sure device manager (start Control Panel Device Manager) shows as below: If not, then the drivers are not installed properly. Please reinstall the drivers and check again. Step 11 After the screen is showing all devices as shown in above step, install Xtenda X550 setup on the server machine. If your server already has Xtenda software, then this step can be skipped. Step 12 After installation, create users using Computer Management. You are required to mandatorily add users as follows: Administrator, User1, User2, User3, User4, & User5 Note: Usernames can t be changed. As this will prevent the system from working properly. Step 13 Add only Administrator in Administrators Group and add User1, User2, User3, User4, & User5 in remote desktop users group. Note: Please do not add other users in administrator group. 19 Step 14 After all users are created, logout from the current user. Then login to server machine with username = Administrator and install ERA Browser. Then restart the server machine. Note: During this step, please confirm that all cameras & mics are connected to your machine. Step 15 After restarting, login on the server with Administrator and run ERA Explorer.exe. Keep ERA Browser in running state and lock the server machine. Step 16 Login on the clients sequentially starting from User1 to User5. You will notice that ERA Explorer.exe is now present on all client desktops. VER-4 19 Click here to download latest version of this document

20 Part 2: Mapping of Webcams and Microphones Step 17 Run ERA Explorer.exe on clients. Click Proceed on the following screen: Step 18 Click on Start to test you Webcam. VER-4 20 Click here to download latest version of this document

Just pick the webcam whose output is shown on screen and attach it on the client monitor.

21 Step 19 After pressing Start proceed as per the below flowchart. E.g.- Face not visible clearly E.g.- Error after face not detected Note: Don t remove the USB connections. Just pick the webcam whose output is shown on screen and attach it on the client monitor. This step needs to be followed for each Xtenda client. 23 Step 21 Click on Start to test your headphone. Step 22 Write the number played on your headphone in the text box on the screen and press Validate Audio. If you didn t hear any sound, then check connection or change the headphone. VER-4 23 Click here to download latest version of this document

24 Step 23 On this screen, click record and read the on screen message. If following screen is visible, then sound is getting recorded. Click on Play to hear the recordings or click on Next for the next step: VER-4 24 Click here to download latest version of this document

25 You may see following screen during mic testing (No waves seen): In such case, you need to check every other mic and when appropriate mic is found then bring it to the current client. Note: Don t remove the USB audio adapter connections of mic. Just pick the headphone, whose output is seen on screen, and connect it to the current client monitor. 26 Step 24 On next screen, keyboard test is taken. You need to write the text shown on screen. If you are able to write properly then click on Next. If you are not able to type, then check keyboard connections or the keyboard. VER-4 26 Click here to download latest version of this document

28 Section 5: Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) Q1. I have many users in Administrator group. Do I need to delete all users except Administrator? A1. No. Just make sure that you don t have User1, User2, User3, User4, and User5 in the administrator group. All other usernames will not create any issue. Q2. Can I use different usernames? A2. No. Only those usernames are allowed which are mentioned in the steps. Q3. I don t have updated drivers in my machine. Will this setup work? What shall I do? A3. This setup will not work until and unless all drivers are updated. To update drivers, you can go to device manager (Start>Control Panel>Device Manager) and check for driver updates. Make sure your internet is connected. Alternatively, you can use the drivers CD which came with your machine. Q4. Do I need working internet connection for this setup? A4. No. Internet connection is not required for the setup unless there is some drivers related issue in your machine. If your drivers are not updated, then you will need internet connection. Q5. My Xtenda server gets very slow when I connect the setup. What shall I do? A5. CPU utilization might have reached 100%. Don t login on each Xtenda Client simultaneously during the setup. Configure each client one by one. After the configuration is done, the CPU utilization will not go to 100%. Q6. Why am I seeing blank screen during Webcam testing on ERA Browser? A6. Please confirm that you have connected a 500W SMPS. Also check for any loose connection. Moreover, the system might not be connected to webcam you are checking. You need to change the USB ports of the webcam and then restart the ERA Browser and then check. Q7. What shall I do when USB 3.0 Card is not getting detected? A7. Please check the connection of the USB 3.0 card and try again. If after that also the device is not getting detected, then please try updating BIOS of your Xtenda server s motherboard.
