3 Info This power supply was designed by STAB in collaboration with STEL, to power centralized managed base station placed over the italian country. Designing the power supply all problems connected to the utilization of devices as base stations and IP cameras were analyzed: These devices need a higly performing UPS, which must be able to supply power for a long time, even of a few days. Internal management of UPS considerably increases battery life. For example, full load life of 24V-100A battery is about 9 hours with 10A discharge current, against the 1 hour life guaranteed by a battery with the same capacity. There is the possibility to link batteries with capacity of 18A up to 150A (battery not furnished). Manager of these devices need to periodically control battery status, without going on the installation place. Remote control makes possible to monitor battery status and electric network, with alarms automatically sent via GSM in case of critical events as absence of 230V input and flat battery. Possibility to verify if battery is phosphated. Installation of these devices often takes place outdoor, therefore systems can experience failures caused by weather conditions (high temperature, lightning, humidity, and so on). Power supply is done using PoE Ethernet ports, supported with dischargers to protect lines. These devices are often installed in places not so easily reachable in short time (mountains, pylons, sea platforms). Web interface allows controlling status of the attached devices in every moment, while sitting in front of the PC. When a machine is out of order, most of the times it s sufficient to restart it in order to re-establish its correct functioning, since usually the failure is not caused by an actual breakdown. With remote management via Ethernet or GSM is possible to interact with the power supply and perform the restart of machines, even with a simple SMS. Most of the times, this is enough to restore the system. This function has also the advantage to reduce the failure duration, avoiding in the same time expensive travels. Easy and guided installation. It removes all switch and base station power supplies and doesn t require wiring to distribute the network. Power is supplied by PoE, with all its protections embedded. Spaces are reduced: the whole system can be put inside a 19 3U rack. Costs are lowered of up to 80%, eliminating almost all manteinance. Need for control of temperature in the installation place. Power supply gives the possibility to connect an external temperature probe and to receive SMS alarm to promptly intervene turning fans on. 3

Radio station used for the system is mod. AR23. Other radio stations can be installed, depending on the distance the transmission should cover. 6

8 Web Interface Remote management via Web is accessed after a login. Default values are: - Username: admin - Password: admin It s possible to change password in the 14 section of the SETUP menu. 8

9 Power Supply Status STATUS MENU 1. ID and installation site, settable from the field n 15 of the SETUP menu. 2. GSM label activates as soon as the onboard SIM is given a number in the section n 25 of the SETUP menu. 3. It indicates presence/absence of 220V input. If input 220V is absent for more than 3, power supply sends a SMS to all active numbers inserted in the section n 26 of the SETUP menu. 4. It indicates if battery is charged/charging. When 220V input is absent and estimated battery life is less than 25% ppower supply sends a message to all numbers configured in the SETUP page. Besides a message is sent right before power supply turns off (battery life equal 0). 5. Choose from the pull-down menu what is the capacity of installed battery (standard values are 18, 40, 65, 80, 100, 120, 150 Ah). 6. Insert battery installation date. 7. Start/stop of battery life chack. Pressing the START button makes battery status test begin. The check algorithm reads every 10 minutes voltage and current absorbed by battery and consequently estimates residual charge. Longer is the duration of the test, more accurate is the estimate: minimum execution time is 22 minutes. 9

10 Power Supply Status Picture shows web interface during battery life check. Bar illustrates charge state; when life to less than 25%, its value is expressed in remaining time instead of percentage. Anytime it s possible to end the test pressing the STOP button. 8. It shows the installation place temperature, detected by the PT100 probe. When probe is not connected to the power supply a Verify probe presence message is shown. 9. This field allows to change the critical temeperature value, which is by default 40 C. When temperature reaches the set threshold, power supply sends a message to all numbers activated in the SETUP page. Besides if in the section n 23 of the SETUP menu the fan option relay 1 is selected, when temperature crpsses its critical theshold a fan is activated. 10. Each time a value for general section is modified user has to save settings pressing the SAVE CHANGES button. 11. SEZIONE PORTE Each port owns a label that can be set in the relative fields of configuration page (sections n 19-22). For example, to each port can be assigned the name of the linked device. ON/OFF button permanently turns on/off the relative port. If instead the port is to be restarted the user must press the restart button: port turns off and turns on again after 10 seconds. This function is fundamental when switch or radio responsible for Web access need a restart (otherwise, using the ON/OFF button, remote management via Web is lost and the only remaining alternative is GSM communication). 12. In section 23 of SETUP menu is possible to assign a label to relays, for example the name the connected device. Choosing the fan option in this section relay 1 is programmed to command an external fan. As for PoE ports, ON/OFF and restart respectively turn on/off and restart realys independently. 13. Every time a modification is applied to ports or relays status user must save changes pressing the SAVE CHANGES button. 10

11 Setup SETUP MENU 14. Possibility to change admin password. When the new password is forgotten the only chance to access the Web interface is to reset the power supply restoring default values. 15. ID. 16. Name or site. 17. Power supply IP address, subnet mask and gateway. To manage power suppply from the Web user has to properly set all these data. 18. SAVE button makes changes permanent, while RESTART button is to be pressed to make them active on the power supply. 11

12 Setup 19. Section 1 power supply is realized with interchangeable 19Vdc o 48Vdc cards, with 3A current. Each card supplies 3 ports; each of them has a limit of 1.2A. Label for ports are assigned through respective fields. 20. Section 2 power supply is realized with interchangeable 19Vdc o 48Vdc cards, with 3A current. Each card supplies 3 ports; each of them has a limit of 1.2A. Label for ports are assigned through respective fields. 21. Section 3 power supply is realized with interchangeable 19Vdc o 48Vdc cards, with 3A current. Each card supplies 2 ports; each of them has a limit of 1.75A. Label for ports are assigned through respective fields. 22. Section 4 power supply is realized with interchangeable 12Vdc cards, with 3A current. It s forbidden to install 19Vdc or 48Vdc cards on this slot. Each card supplies 2 ports; each of them has a limit of 1.75A. Label for ports are assigned through respective fields. 23. Power supply has been provided 2 voltage free independently controllable output relays. Relay 1 can be selected to command an external fan. Label for relays are assigned through respective fields. 24. In order to apply changes made in the PORT section is necessary to press SAVE button. 25. Insert in the first field the number of installed SIM, included the country code. The second field memorizes password to be written in management SMS sent via GSM. 26. Power supply is programmed to send SMS to 6 phone numbers, inserted with country code. Messages are sent only to active saved numbers. 27. In order to apply changes made in the GSM section is necessary to press SAVE button. 12
