About This Guide Safety Warnings and Cautions! Caution: This product is designed to work with power systems having a grounded neutral. To reduce the risk of electric shock, do not plug this product into any other type of power system. Contact a qualified electrician if you are not sure what type of power is supplied to your building. Power and Electrical Warnings CAUTION The power button, indicated by the stand-by power marking, DOES NOT completely turn off the system AC power. 5V standby power is active whenever the system is plugged in. To remove power from system, you must unplug the AC power cord from the wall outlet. If your system uses more than one AC power cord, make sure all AC power cords are unplugged before you open the chassis, or add or remove any non hot-plug components. The power supply in this product contains no user-serviceable parts. Do not open the power supply. Hazardous voltage, current, and energy levels are present inside the power supply. Return to manufacturer for servicing. To avoid risk of electric shock, turn off the appliance and disconnect the power cord, telecommunications systems, networks, and modems attached to the appliance before opening it. The power cord set included with the appliance meets the requirements for use in the country of purchase. Use the power cord that shipped with the appliance. If this appliance is to be used in another country, purchase an AC power cord set that is approved for use in that country (18 AWG recommended). The power cord must be rated for the product and for the voltage and current marked on the product's electrical ratings label. The voltage and current rating of the cord should be greater than the voltage and current rating marked on the product. In addition, the cross-sectional area of the wires must be a minimum of 1.00mmð or 18AWG or 18AWG, and the length of the cords must be between 1.8m (6 feet) and 3.6m (12 feet). 8 ProxySG 900 Series Maintenance & Upgrade Guide

About This Guide System Access Warnings CAUTION To avoid personal injury or property damage, the following safety instructions apply whenever accessing the inside of the product: Turn off all peripheral devices connected to this product. Turn off the system by pressing the power button to off. Disconnect the AC power by unplugging all AC power cords from the system or wall outlet. Disconnect all cables and telecommunication lines that are connected to the system. Retain all screws or other fasteners when removing access cover(s). Upon completion of accessing inside the product, refasten access cover with original screws or fasteners. Do not access the inside of the power supply. There are no serviceable parts in the power supply. Return to manufacturer for servicing. Power down the server and disconnect all power cords before adding or replacing any non hot-plug component. When replacing a hot-plug power supply, unplug the power cord to the power supply being replaced before removing the power supply from the server. CAUTION If the server has been running, any installed processor(s) and heat sink(s) may be hot. Unless you are adding or removing a hot-plug component, allow the system to cool before opening the covers. To avoid the possibility of coming into contact with hot component(s) during a hot-plug installation, be careful when removing or installing the hot-plug component(s). CAUTION To avoid injury do not contact moving fan blades. If your system is supplied with a guard over the fan, do not operate the system without the fan guard in place. Cooling and Airflow Warning Carefully route cables as directed to minimize airflow blockage and cooling problems. For proper cooling and airflow, operate the system only with the chassis covers installed. Operating the system without the covers in place can damage system parts. To install the covers: 1. Check first to make sure you have not left loose tools or parts inside the system. 2. Check that cables, add-in boards, and other components are properly installed. 3. Attach the covers to the chassis according to the product instructions. ProxySG 900 Series Maintenance & Upgrade Guide 9

About This Guide Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) Warning CAUTION ESD can damage disk drives, boards, and other parts. We recommend that you perform all procedures at an ESD workstation. If one is not available, provide some ESD protection by wearing an antistatic wrist strap attached to chassis ground -- any unpainted metal surface -- on your server when handling parts. Always handle boards carefully. They can be extremely sensitive to ESD. Hold boards only by their edges. After removing a board from its protective wrapper or from the server, place the board component side up on a grounded, static free surface. Use a conductive foam pad if available but not the board wrapper. Do not slide board over any surface. 10 ProxySG 900 Series Maintenance & Upgrade Guide

Slide Rail Kit Prepare the Appliance This procedure describes how to remove the inner slide from the slide rail assembly and mount onto the appliance. The inn rail assembly comes preinstalled into Rail_A from the factory to reduce packaging space. Slide Rail Disassembly The slide rail kit comes with the inner rail preattached to Rail_A and must be disassembled before continuing with the installation. To remove the inner rail from Rail_A: 1. Fully extend the slide rail by pulling out the inner rail until it reaches the stops. 2. Activate the white one-way slide release latch (located towards the rear of the inner rail) and then remove the inner rail. Note: The slide rails are symmetrical in design. All slide rail components can be used interchangeably with the opposite slide rail. 92 ProxySG 900 Series Maintenance & Upgrade Guide

Slide Rail Kit 3. Install the inner slide onto the appliance: a. Align the inner rail to the posts on the chassis. b. Lock the rail into position by sliding it towards the front of the appliance. Ensure that all posts snap into the slots on the inner rail. c. Install (1) M3 screw to secure the inner rail onto the appliance. 4. Repeat steps 1-3 to install the slide on the opposite side of the appliance. Set the appliance aside in a safe location after attaching the inner rails. e Function check! Manipulate the front and rear white slide release latches to verify function. They should operate smoothly in both directions with minimal effort. 94 Slide Rail Kit 4-Post Rail Installation This procedure describes how to prepare and install the rail assembly into the equipment rack for 4-post installations. To install the rail assembly for 4-post installations: 1. Assemble the slide rails: a. Loosely attach Rail C to Rail_A. The location and mounting method depends on how far Rail_C must be extended to fit the rack. Use the following guidelines to properly mount Rail_C to Rail_A: Approximate the installation length by lining up the front and rear mounting faces against the vertical equipment rails. Install screws into the mounting points on the opposite ends on the slotted hole on Rail_C. Be sure to use at least a total of (3) screws. Note: If the Rail_A assembly is fully extended, you can retract it by activating the release tab inside the rail. 2. Mount the slide rail assemblies into the four post rack. Note: The rack screws used in this step are not included with the slide rail kit as they are rack-specific. See your equipment rack installation guide for more information on screw sizing. a. Align the assembled Rail_A against the equipment rack and mount to the outside face of the rack using (2) rack screws. Do not fully tighten! The Rail_A bracket will be tightened after the appliance is secured in the rack. 94 ProxySG 900 Series Maintenance & Upgrade Guide

Slide Rail Kit b. Extend (or retract) Rail_C to align the mounting face of the bracket against the outside face of the equipment rack and attach with (2) rack screws. Do not fully tighten! The Rail_C bracket will be tightened after the appliance is secured in the rack. c. Tighten the Rail_C side mounting screws. d. Repeat steps 3a-3c on the opposite side. Ensure both slide-rail assemblies are at the same height in the rack. e Function check! Extend and retract the slide rails to verify smooth operation and slidestop operation. Next: Install the Appliance into the Equipment Rack on page 100 ProxySG 900 Series Maintenance & Upgrade Guide 95

Slide Rail Kit 2-Post Mid Mount Rail Assembly The mid mount installation requires two Rail_B brackets to be installed onto the equipment rack (per side). The Rail_B brackets support the appliance, while the front bracket (Rail_A) secures the appliance. To install the mounting brackets onto the equipment rail: 1. Install two Rail_B mounting brackets onto the equipment rail. Note: The rack screws used in this step are not included with the slide rail kit as they are rack-specific. See your equipment rack installation guide for more information on screw sizing. a. Install the front Rail_B bracket with the mounting surface facing towards the rear using (2) rack screws. Do not fully tighten! The Rail_B bracket will be tightened after the appliance is secured into the rack. b. Install the rear Rail_B bracket with the mounting surface facing towards the front using (2) rack screws. Do not fully tighten! The Rail_B bracket will be tightened after the appliance is secured in the rack. c. Repeat for the other side. Verify the Rail_B mounting brackets are at the same height in the rack 96 ProxySG 900 Series Maintenance & Upgrade Guide

Slide Rail Kit 2. Attach the Rail_A to the Rail_B mounting brackets. a. Fit Rail_A into both Rail_B tracks. Move Rail_A fore or aft to the nearest set of mounting points to properly fit your mid mount requirements and attach using (1) M3 screw. Use one of the Rail_B single hole mounting points. This will prevent alignment issues when attaching the opposite slide-rail. b. Secure Rail_A to the Rail_B mounting brackets using M3 screws. You can use any of the points that are available on the slotted holes. Be sure to use at least a total of (4) screws per side. Note: The above image illustrates one of many possible configurations. The placement of additional mounting points along Rail_A allows it to be placed in a variety of locations. Next: Install the Appliance into the Equipment Rack on page 100 ProxySG 900 Series Maintenance & Upgrade Guide 97

Slide Rail Kit 2-Post Front Mount Rail Assembly The front mount installation requires one Rail_A assembly and one Rail_B bracket (per side) to be installed onto the equipment rack. In the front mount installation, the front bracket has two roles: it both secures the appliance and functions as an equipment rail bracket. To install the front mount installation brackets and rail assembly onto the equipment rack: 1. Install one Rail_B mounting bracket onto the rear face of the equipment rail. Note: The rack screws used in this step are not included with the slide rail kit as they are rack-specific. See your equipment rack installation guide for more information on screw sizing. a. Install the Rail_B bracket with the mounting surface facing towards the front using (2) rack screws. Do not fully tighten! The Rail_B bracket will be tightened after the appliance is secured in the rack. b. Repeat for the other side. Verify that both Rail_B mounting brackets are at the same height in the rack. 98 ProxySG 900 Series Maintenance & Upgrade Guide

Slide Rail Kit 2. Attach Rail_A rail assembly to the equipment rack and the supporting Rail_B mounting bracket. a. Align Rail_A with the Rail_B tracks. Move Rail_A rearward until the rear face of the bracket is flush with the equipment rail. b. Secure Rail_A using (2) rack screws. c. Secure Rail_A to the Rail_B mounting bracket using M3 screws. You can use any of the points that are available on the slotted holes. Be sure to use at least a total of (2) screws per side d. Repeat steps 2a-2c for the other side of the equipment rack. Note: The above image illustrates one of many possible configurations based on the depth of the equipment rail. Next: Install the Appliance into the Equipment Rack on page 100 ProxySG 900 Series Maintenance & Upgrade Guide 99

Slide Rail Kit Install the Appliance into the Equipment Rack This procedure describes how to mount the Blue Coat ProxySG 900 series appliance into the newly installed slide-rails in the equipment rack.! WARNING! DO NOT attempt to mount theblue Coat ProxySG 900 series appliances alone! If a mechanical lift is not used, Blue Coat recommends two people install the Blue Coat ProxySG 900 series appliances. To install the appliance into the equipment rack: 1. Align the grooves of the inner rail with those on Rail_A and slide the appliance half-way into the rack. 2. Activate the white tab on the inner rail to slide the appliance fully into the equipment rack. 3. Tighten the rack screws securing the rail mounting brackets. For 4-post installations, the Rail_A and Rail_C brackets must be tightened. For 2-post mid mount installations, tighten both sets of Rail_B brackets. For 2-post front mount installations, tighten the Rail_A and Rail_B brackets. 4. Tighten the thumbscrews on the retaining ears to secure the unit from sliding out of the equipment rack. e TIP: The slide release latches can be activated by pushing or pulling the latch. 100 ProxySG 900 Series Maintenance & Upgrade Guide

Slide Rail Kit Verify the Slide Rail Installation These steps describe how to verify that the Blue Coat ProxySG 900 series slide rail kit has been properly installed. To verify proper slide rail installation: 1. Inspect the slide rails to verify that there is no damage to or debris in the rails. 2. Verify that the rails are even and installed on the same level in the equipment rack. 3. With the appliance installed into the equipment rack, push and pull the system to verify smooth movement across the entire range of motion. Note: If you experience difficulty sliding the appliance fully into the equipment rack in a 4 post installation, your equipment rack rails might be out of spec. See Slide rail sizing information on page -102 for more information. 4. With the appliance installed, carefully pull out the appliance to verify slide-stop functionality. 5. With the appliance installed and locked into place with the captive screw, verify that the appliance is securely installed. ProxySG 900 Series Maintenance & Upgrade Guide 101

Slide Rail Kit Appendix A Slide rail sizing information The ProxySG 900 series slide rail kit requires that the vertical equipment rack rails be 450mm apart (for the front) and 451mm (for the rear) for proper fit and function, as shown below. In the rare instances that the equipment rails fall below the indicated specifications, you can install Rail_C against the inside mounting face of the equipment rack (instead of the outside) and attach with (2) rack screws. 102 ProxySG 900 Series Maintenance & Upgrade Guide
