3 Mounting the Positioner Use this document as a guide for quick startup. For more detailed information, see the positioner s User Manual and Product Data Sheet, available on our website at MOUNTING THE POSITIONER Select an Adapter The Universal Positioner needs a linking piece for attachment to the different brands of actuators. The standard Mounting Adapter is marked with Option N. Figure 1: Mounting adapters During operation, the flat side of the spindle 9 on the back of the positioner must always point towards the arrow 26. The working angle around this position is ± 45. 5 Mounting the Positioner Mount to Rotary Actuators Do not tighten grub screw 4 against the thread of spindle 9. NNOTE: Figure 5: Mounting to rotary actuator When the product temperature rises, the drive shaft 1 lengthens. Therefore, the rotary adaptor 3 must be mounted with approximately 1 mm (0.04 in.) of clearance between the drive shaft 1 and the rotary adaptor 3. To create this clearance, place two washers 5 on the feedback shaft stub 9 before attaching the rotary adaptor. 6 Connections CONNECTIONS INSTALLATION AND STARTUP OF THIS INSTRUMENT IS TO BE CARRIED OUT ONLY BY QUALIFIED PERSONNEL, FAMILIAR WITH INSTALLATION AND STARTUP PROCEDURES AND OPERATION OF THIS PRODUCT! After aligning and mounting the positioner to the valve, connect the pneumatic tubing. Check before mounting fittings and cable glands if threads are matching, otherwise housing can be damaged. The type of thread is marked at housing. Ground: Connect earth cable to screw #1 or screw #2 in the electrical connection compartment. This screw also unlocks the cover for the electronic compartment. 8 Startup STARTUP General After mounting the positioner on the actuator and connecting the air and electrical input, you can start the SRD. Use the local keypad and LCD/LED display to adjust the SRD960. INJURIES MAY OCCUR. DO NOT TOUCH BEHIND THE POSITIONER HOUSING WHILE OPERATING THE KEYS. Key Cover (Optional) Loosen screw A and turn aside the cover B to access the four local keys. Indication with LCD In true text: SRD Main Menu 1 Mounting 2 Autostart 3 Valve Action If there is no response using the local keys (message 1 appears), make sure that the Write Protection is not set. Remove the write protection using the configuration software. Indication with LEDs The LEDs indicate the following methods: M ½ ½ M and LED 1 flash 1 constant light,on ¼ flashing: shorton, long OFF ½ flashing: ON andoff same duration ¾ flashing: long ON,short OFF OFF MENU DOWN UP ENTER Figure 10: Local keys Setting by Means of Local Keys The keys have the following functions: ( ) start menu / end menu ( ) counting down of menu or parameter numbers (+) counting up of menu or parameter numbers ( ) confirm at start, or when entering, storing, or verifying ( ) ( ) (+) simultaneously: Reset = new start of SRD, thereafter initialization Page 8 POS-QS EN-02

9 Startup Operation Operation after a Powerup or Reset The SRD initializes after a powerup or reset, checking and starting the electronic components. The stored data of the positioner is not affected and remains unchanged. The INIT status displays in clear text on the LCD or as LED code. Initialization takes approximately 3 seconds, then the SRD goes: Into operation if Autostart has already been done or To configuration Menu 1, to select the text language. 9.9 Menu Lang English Deutsch (Francais)... and the display orientation is selected LCD Orient Normal Flipped... then automatically continued to configuration: SRD Main Menu 1 Mounting 2 Autostart 3 Valve Action Select with keys (+) or ( ) and confirm with ( ). Operation after an Autostart After an autostart, the SRD goes automatically IN OPERATION. While IN OPERATION, you can still configure additional parameters. With the LED version, all LEDs are off during operation. Press + or to retrieve additional information from the SRD: Certain data is available only with the corresponding options. Operation with LCD Press to enter the Menu mode. Menu 1 appears. Press + or to select a menu item. Each press moves one menu item forward or back. Press to confirm your selection and enter the Parameter Change mode for the selected item. Press again to exit the Menu mode. If the SRD remains in Menu mode, it is OUT OF SERVICE and you must initiate an autostart. If the SRD is IN OPERATION, the valve position displays. If you select a menu but do not press any keys for a few minutes, the SRD switches back to operation. Operation with LED Press to enter the Menu mode. The red LED flashes alternately with the green LED1, which indicates menu item 1. Press + or to select a menu item. Each press moves one menu item forward or back. The flashing green LEDs indicate a selected menu item. To test the LED before configuration, move from menu item 1 to 4 and check that each LED lights. Press to confirm your selection and enter the Parameter Change mode for the selected item. The red LED goes off and the remaining green LED indicates the parameter or state to be set 1). Press again to exit the Menu mode. Red and green LEDs extinguish when the SRD is IN SERVICE. If the SRD remains in Menu mode, it is OUT OF SERVICE and you must initiate an autostart. If the SRD is IN OPERATION, the valve position displays. If you select a menu but do not press any keys for a few minutes, the SRD switches back to operation. 1) Exception in Menu 6 (and at PROFIBUS Menu 10). No parameter indicated at first, but flashing rhythm with long green and short red phases. This points to a sub-menu. Then enter into parameter selection as described. Manual Operation To switch to manual mode, press twice. You can now set the valve position manually. To exit the menu, press twice. POS-QS EN-02 Page 9
