3 1 Head Unit 1.1 Power and control signals 10V-30V DC and GROUND (POWER): These are the main power connections for the system. Note: External fuse protection required: 5A - 10A fuse. PCON1, PCON2 (INPUT): With the MLA2500 Tourmaster system, the Drivers control panel can control the power to the system, With the MLS2500 SoundServer system (and alternatively the MLA2500 Tourmaster system as well) to power up the system, short these two connections together. Do not apply voltage to these connections. RELAY1, RELAY2 (OUTPUT - for MLA2500 only): Contacts of normally-open (N/O) relay. The connections close for approximately 1 second at the beginning of each audio commentary. These connections can be used (for instance) to activate a remote chime to alert passengers of the pending commentary. Note: Power rating of N/O relay: 30V DC, 2A max. 1.2 GPS connection (MLA2500 only) RS232 communication interface to NMEA 0183 standard GPS receiver. The Tourmaster system has been tested to work with the Garmin GPS16-HVS aerial. Other aerial brands are not tested nor guaranteed. Required aerial settings are: 4800 baud rate NMEA-0183 GPRMC sentence output With or without sentence checksum 2

4 The colours of the GPS antennae cable charted below are typical for the Garmin GPS16-HVS but will differ between brands. Please consult the datasheet for the GPS antennae being used for correct connections. Note: Pin 2: RS232 Receive (Rx) GPS Antenna RS232 Transmit (Tx) Pin 5: RS232 Transmit (Tx) GPS Antenna RS232 Receive (Rx) Also note that some antenna may have additional power-control connections. For instance the GARMIN GPS16 requires the yellow remote power wire to be grounded to activate the antenna. Please refer the antenna datasheet for more information. CONNECTOR: 5-pin DIN (180 ) 1.3 Drivers control panel (MLA2500 only) Interface to the drivers control panel. Supplied cable is 4 metres in length but if replacement or shorter length is required, connector on control panel end is RJ45-8/8 with same connections as main loom connectors. CONNECTOR (head-unit): 5-pin DIN (180 ) CONNECTOR (panel): RJ45-8/8 for solid conductor 1.4 Main loom Two modular RJ45 connectors supply digital audio channels and power to all connected passenger audio controllers via two CAT-5 cable looms. One loom connects near-side seats; the other connects off-side seats. CONNECTORS: CABLE: RJ45-8/8 for solid conductor CAT-5, CAT-5E or CAT-6 3

5 1.4.1 Indicator lights Lights indicate that power is present on the main loom ports. If either light is not lit when the system is turned on may indicate a short on the loom wiring for that port Double deckers For double-decker buses, signal splitters are available to split each of the main loom outputs from the head-unit into two. Two splitters are typically required per double-decker bus to supply both near and far sides of upstairs and downstairs Hub Terminators A Hub Terminator module is an electrical device that is required to ensure proper system operation. One module must be connected to the spare BLUE port on each hub located furthest from the head unit on each loom. In a standard configuration, two terminators modules are required. For double deckers using signal splitters, 4 terminator modules are required, one per hub located at the end of each of the 4 looms Testing main loom wiring Before testing completed wiring, ensure the following is done first: Install all main loom wiring; Connect all RED cables between hubs and audio controllers; Connect all BLUE cables between hubs; Install PCU42 termination modules into remaining empty BLUE port (labelled blue) on hub furthest from the Coachsound system on each loom (typically x 2, but x 4 if splitters are used) For each of the two CAT-5 cables that will connect to the MAIN LOOM ports on the head-unit, check for the following resistance values between wiring: Check from wire to wire Approx. resistance reading ORANGE ORANGE / WHITE Ω GREEN GREEN / WHITE Ω BLUE BLUE / WHITE SHORT (0Ω) BROWN BROWN / WHITE SHORT (0Ω) ORANGE PAIR ALL OTHERS OPEN (>10kΩ) GREEN PAIR ALL OTHERS OPEN (>10kΩ) BROWN PAIR ALL OTHERS OPEN (>10kΩ) BLUE PAIR ALL OTHERS OPEN (>10kΩ) ALL WIRES CHASSIS OPEN (>100kΩ) ALL WIRES POWER OPEN (>100kΩ) WARNING ENSURE ALL WIRING IS CORRECT BEFORE POWERING ENSURE ALL ADDITIONAL RJ45 PLUGS ARE CONNECTED AND WIRED CORRECTLY INCORRECT WIRING CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO ALL SEAT UNITS! THIS DAMAGE IS NOT COVERED BY WARRANTY! Audio controller capacity: The number of audio controllers that can be connected to each RJ45 loom output from the head-unit depends on the supply voltage: 12V DC (nominal) power supply: 25 x audio controllers per RJ45 loom output (50 x audio controllers) 4

6 24V DC (nominal) power supply: 50 x audio controllers per RJ45 loom output (100 x audio controllers) Note: this is the total number of connected audio controllers per main RJ45 loom. Using PCU432 splitters does not increase this number. Refrain from connecting all hubs to one main loom port. Instead, use one main loom port for off-side seating, and the other for near-side seating. 1.5 Audio connections Audio In Coachsound multi-channel systems provide 3 x stereo audio connections for connection from external audio sources such as DVD players and CD players. CONNECTORS: AUDIO FORMAT: AUDIO LEVEL: INPUT IMPEDANCE: RCA STEREO 1-3V RMS 10k OHMS Audio Out Coachsound multi-channel systems provide an audio output that can connect to an external audio system such as an external amplifier. This output can be selected to be any channel that is available with headphones. CONNECTORS: AUDIO FORMAT: AUDIO LEVEL: OUTPUT IMPEDANCE: RCA MONO/STEREO 1-3V RMS 100 OHMS Microphones Coachsound multi-channel systems provide connections for up to two microphones. Each microphone input has two connectors to allow either pass-through or the connection of multiple microphones per input. Note: Daisy-chaining of microphone connections to more than one audio system (for example, to the Tourmaster and also to the main stereo system) can induce unwanted audio noise such as hum and alternator whine. This is not due to the Coachsound system but due to the earthing arrangement between all audio systems. A star point earth is required from all audio systems to prevent unwanted noise on the microphone channels in these situations. 7 2 Audio controllers Audio controllers power up on channel 0 and with a default low volume setting. The buttons are touch sensitive there are no mechanical buttons; The headphone sockets are replaceable when worn or damaged; Use the supplied RED cable to connect the audio controller to a RED port on the hub; The audio controller is electrically protected against accidental cable insertion into an incorrect hub port. 3 Hubs Hubs are used to connect the main BLUE loom originating from the Coachsound head-unit to a pair of seatbased audio controllers. The hubs are connected in a daisy-chain arrangement and the hub furthest from the head-unit is electrically terminated with a PCU42 Terminator module in the spare BLUE port. Mount the hubs under each pair of seats; Connect the supplied RED cables between the RED ports and to the audio controllers; Connect the supplied BLUE cables between hubs (in a daisy chain) Do not connect cables to the hubs in any other way other than daisy-chain; Ensure all wiring is hidden from view and will not be crimped by seat recliners etc; A PCU42 terminator module must be connected to the remaining spare BLUE port on the hub furthest from the head-unit on each loom; The hub is electrically protected against accidental cable insertion into an incorrect port. 3.1 Indicator lights Hubs have flashing indicator lights for each RED and BLUE port: Two lights for the BLUE port flash once per second to indicate a successful data link to the Coachsound head-unit. Lights for the RED ports flash once per second to indicate a successful link to the audio controller. They also flash when a button has been pressed on the audio controller. 6

8 4 Signal Splitters The signal splitter hubs are used when the loom outputs from the head unit needs to be split. These splitters are generally used in double-deckers where the two main looms from the Coachsound head-unit are split into four - one pair of looms for upstairs (off-side and near-side) and one set for downstairs (off-side and nearside). Typically mount the signal splitter under a pair of seats (or out of harms way); Connect the BLUE cable originating from the head unit to the LEFT input port; Connect BLUE cables to the MIDDLE and RIGHT output ports to the next set of two hubs Ensure all wiring is hidden from view and will not be crimped by seat recliners etc; The hub is electrically protected against accidental cable insertion into an incorrect port. 5 Drivers Control panel (MLA2500 only) The drivers control panel allows the driver or user to control the system. See the Tourmaster User Manual for more information on using the control panel. Mount the panel in view of the driver (in dash or console) LCD contract control is via hole in rear of panel Connect to Tourmaster head-unit via supplied 4m cable 6 Cabling Most cabling is supplied pre-made: RED (2 metre) Hub to audio controller cables (one cable per audio controller) BLUE (2 metre) Inter-hub cables (one cable between hubs) Cabling that is not typically supplied pre-made due to construction differences in each bus build is: BLUE inter-hub cables from main loom port of head-unit to first hub in the chain BLUE inter-hub cables that traverse central stair-wells This additional wiring is done in-situ and therefore requires an installer with expertise in connecting RJ45 connectors onto CAT-5 cable. ENSURE ALL ADDITIONAL WIRING IS TESTED BEFORE APPLYING POWER 7
