2 Warnings IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS PLEASE ENSURE YOU READ AND UNDERSTAND THE FOLLOWING INSTRUCTIONS FULLY. THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION WILL HELP YOU IN UNDERSTANDING YOUR NEW SYSTEM AND RESOLVING ANY PROBLEMS THAT MAY ARISE. PLEASE KEEP THESE INSTRUCTIONS IN A SAFE PLACE AS THEY MAY BE NEEDED FOR FUTURE REFERENCE. Do not place the Plexus on an unstable surface or near a radiator or heat source Use only the power supply unit provided with the Plexus unit Connect all equipment to properly grounded power sockets. Avoid using sockets on the same circuit as other equipment that regularly switches on or off Do not use a damaged or frayed power cable Do not, under any circumstances, attempt to open or service the Plexus unit or the power supply. There are no user serviceable parts in either unit. Refer all servicing to CRE Avoid covering or placing any object on the Plexus. Ensure the air vents are not obstructed or blocked in any way Contact CRE for urgent service under the following conditions; o Liquid has entered the unit o The unit has been dropped or damaged o The unit does not operate correctly or exhibits a distinct change in performance IMPORTANT NOTICE DO NOT TURN THIS MACHINE OFF UNLESS ASKED TO DO SO BY A MEMBER OF THE CRE SERVICE TEAM. IT SHOULD BE LEFT RUNNING 24 HOURS A DAY, 7 DAYS A WEEK. Please ensure it is connected to a socket which is supplied with power continuously. It should not be connected to a socket on a time switch. SWITCHING OFF Always turn the power off using the power button. When this button is pressed, the power indicator light will change colour and the machine will shut down after approximately thirty seconds. Do not unplug the Plexus from the mains until the power indicator has extinguished.

3 Getting to know your system General Product Information WHAT IS PLEXUS? Plexus is a hard disk based music management system. The unit is fully computer controlled and can be remotely managed, updated and diagnosed should any software fault arise. The system provides continuous quality stereo music output and is capable of storing many thousands of tracks. Plexus can be update via CDROM, network, ISDN or satellite. WHAT DO I NEED TO DO? Quite simply, nothing! Plexus is fully automated and programmed. It knows what to play, and when to play it. This means that it is capable of putting itself into standby and then restarting again. Plexus is fully capable of switching to different genres of music at different times of the day. The unit is entirely self-sufficient and requires no user intervention. Functions & Controls IDENTIFYING TRACK AND DAYPART INFORMATION Plexus shows every track it plays on the front LCD panel. This display also shows the current date, time and the category of music currently being played. CONTROL PANEL FUNCTIONS The front panel buttons are for the use of CRE engineers should Plexus require attention. Please avoid pressing these buttons unless asked to do so by a member of the CRE service team. WHAT IF A FAULT ARISES? Inevitably, faults do arise, however a few simple and basic checks can save time and costly engineer visits. Please refer to the troubleshooting section for a list of possible problems and solutions. Our customer support line is able to provide online support should you be unable to resolve the fault. UPDATING VIA THE CD DRAWER The CD drive is used to update new music onto your system. Push the button to open the tray, and insert your CRE update CD. Be careful not to get any fingerprints on the disk. Push the button again and the tray will close. The new music will then be copied from the CD and stored inside your Plexus machine. Please observe the LCD panel for any further instructions. Once the update has loaded successfully, you can remove the CD and dispose of it.

4 Troubleshooting POWER SUPPLY PROBLEM: THE PLEXUS DOES NOT WORK AND THERE IS NO LIGHT ON THE FRONT PANEL Cause The Plexus is turned off The Plexus will not turn on Remedy Press the blue button labelled "Power" on the control panel. The power LED will come on. Check that the power supply unit is connected to the mains and the green light on the power supply unit is illuminated. Check that the 12V power cable is correctly inserted into the rear of the Plexus. OPERATION PROBLEM: THERE IS NO MUSIC Cause The Plexus is not powered up Non Plexus related Display shows "Booting " Plexus is displaying a percentage bar as shown below; [======> 25% hda4] Display shows "Playing 0 from 0" Remedy See the POWER SUPPLY section above If the display screen on the Plexus is cycling through the information, and shows the names of the songs that are playing, it is highly likely that the fault is not with the Plexus machine. Double check that all your amplifiers are turned on and that the volume controls and input selection switches are set appropriately Please contact the CRE Helpdesk for support The Plexus has experienced a power interruption and is performing a file integrity test. This can take up to 10 minutes after which the system will continue to play normally. Please refrain from pressing any buttons whilst this procedure is taking place.
