6 Introduction 1 INTRODUCTION Digiplex IV is a video matrix switching system. The master switcher chassis of the Digiplex IV system provides 64 video inputs and 32 monitor outputs. The Digiplex IV system expands from 64 inputs x 32 outputs to more than 512 inputs x 64 outputs by adding expansion cards and expansion chassis. (For systems larger than 512 x 64, contact your GE Interlogix sales representative.) Video is brought into the master and slave chassis by coaxial cables and switched between the master, slave, and expansion chassis by ribbon cables. Built-in diagnostic LEDs on the front panels of the chassis provide constant confirmation of system power, communications, video, and camera performance. Note: Components are connected by twisted-pair cable. 7 Installation Overview 2 INSTALLATION OVERVIEW The general progression of installation for a Digiplex IV system follows the flow shown below. Specific instructions for installing the components and setting the DIP switches and jumpers are provided in section 3 Hardware Installation. See Figures 1 and 2 for the front and back views of a 512 x 64 system that provides the DIP switch settings and ribbon cable connections. 10 Hardware Installation 3 HARDWARE INSTALLATION All Digiplex IV component chassis mount into 19-inch (48.26 cm) racks. For specifications and functionalities of individual components, see the product specification. For individual system configurations, see Appendix G. System Configurations. There are six basic hardware configurations that manage the video inputs and monitor outputs of the 16 input/output configurations that exist between systems sized 64 x 32 and 512 x 64. Table 1 outlines the key components contained within these six basic hardware configurations. Table 1. 11 Hardware Installation CAUTION: Complete all instruction steps before supplying power to the unit. 1) Mount the KTD-440 chassis into a 19-inch (48.26 cm) rack. 2) Mount a KTD-446 power supply near the KTD-440 chassis. See Figure 4 and perform the following: 3) Connect all camera cables to their respective BNC video input connectors. 4) Connect all monitor cables to their respective BNC monitor output connectors. 5) Remove the terminal strip from the back of the chassis. 6) While observing polarity, connect the RS422 control cable(s). 7) Reinstall the terminal strip. If you need to verify or change the termination, signal format settings, or addressing for the system, refer to appendixes A, B, and C. 10) Connect the KTD-446 power supply to the KTD-440 chassis, then to a power source. KTD-440 power connections 3.2 INSTALLING THE KTD-440G CHASSIS CAUTION: Complete all instruction steps before supplying power to the unit. 1) Mount the KTD-440G chassis into a 19-inch (48.26 cm) rack directly under the KTD-441-2, KTD-441-3, or KTD-440N chassis. Refer to your system configuration in Appendix G. System Configurations. 2) Mount a KTD-446 power supply near the KTD-440G chassis. 3) Connect the ribbon cables between the KTD-440G and other chassis. KTD-440G power connections 3.3 INSTALLING THE KTD-440N CHASSIS CAUTION: Complete all instruction steps before supplying power to the unit. 1) Mount the KTD-440N chassis into a 19-inch (48.26 cm) rack. 2) Mount a KTD-446 power supply near the KTD-440N chassis. See Figure 8 and perform the following: 3) Connect all monitor cables to their respective BNC monitor output connectors. 4) Remove the terminal strip from the back of the chassis. 5) While observing polarity, connect the RS422 control cable(s). 6) Reinstall the terminal strip. 7) Connect the ribbon cables between the KTD-440N and other chassis. KTD-440N back panel connections 8) Set the KTD-440N chassis to control monitors 33 through 64. Use the DIP switches on the KTD-447 cards in both the KTD-440N and KTD-440 chassis. See Figure 9. a) In the KTD-440N chassis, set switch 1 to ON to control monitors 33 through 64. b) In the KTD-440 chassis, ensure that switch 1 remains OFF to control monitors 1 through 32. 18 System Programming 4 SYSTEM PROGRAMMING Before programming, have all hardware installed and the system planned (i.e., assignments and titles of cameras, monitors, alarms, steps, dwell times, remote slaves, and switching groups). The system can be programmed with the internal menus or the optional programming software. Note: This manual provides instructions for programming the matrix switcher. All other system components, such as PTZ receivers and alarm interfaces, are programmed separately. Refer to the programming instructions for those devices. 4.1 PROGRAMMING WITH THE OPTIONAL PROGRAMMING SOFTWARE If you are programming the system using the optional KTD-411 Digiplex IV programming software, then refer to that manual for further instructions. 4.2 PROGRAMMING WITH THE INTERNAL MENUS If you are programming the system using the internal menus, you will need a keypad or computer keyboard (see section Setting Up the Programming Interface). The internal menus will be displayed on a security monitor. Note: Programming should be performed by a qualified technician. The internal menus appear on the monitor screen in alphabetical order. For new installations, however, follow these instructions in the order they are presented. These instructions walk you through a typical programming progression. You will not follow the menus alphabetically. For reference, an overview of the menu tree is provided in section Menu Tree. After the initial programming, parameters can be changed at any time by entering programming mode and advancing to specific menus B / December 2003

20 System Programming SETTING UP THE PROGRAMMING INTERFACE Set up the programming hardware as shown in Figure 16 (using a keypad) or Figure 17 (using a keyboard). Note: If you are programming the system using the optional KTD-411 Digiplex IV programming software, refer to that manual for the programming hardware setup. Note: If you are using a computer keyboard, it must be a 101-key keyboard with a PS2-type Mini-DIN connector. 21 System Programming ACCESSING MATRIX SWITCHER PROGRAMMING USING A KEYBOARD 1) Ensure that the keyboard is plugged into the KTD-447 card in the KTD-440 chassis as shown in Figure 17. 2) Verify the currently selected monitor by pressing F5 on the keyboard. 3) If you need to change the selected monitor before entering the programming menus, enter the twodigit monitor number (e.g., 02 for monitor 2) using the 10-key number pad. Note: Do not use the number keys that are located across the top of the keyboard. The main programming menu (Figure 18) appears on the monitor. 22 System Programming USING A KEYPAD 1) For keypads other than the KTD-405, begin at the normal operating display and select the monitor to be programmed by pressing the mon key and the number keys that correspond to the monitor number (e.g., 02 for monitor 2). If you are using a KTD-405 keypad, start at step 2. 2) At the normal operating display, enter programming mode by pressing and holding the key on the KTD-405 (or the set key on the KTD-404 or KTD-400). Note: Quickly move to the next step after the keypad beeps. 3) At the code entry display, enter the programming access code by sequentially pressing the 9, 5, 1, and seq keys. 23 System Programming PROGRAMMING THE MATRIX SWITCHER Moving through the internal menus and making selections requires different keys or the joystick depending on the programming interface (keypad or keyboard) being used. See Table 2. Note: You must program each monitor in the system separately when programming the monitors with the internal menus. Monitor programming can be copied to another monitor or to all monitors using menu E-6. Table 2. Note: Example user content that has been added to menus is highlighted. Note: To receive context-sensitive help at any point during programming, press the alarm key. 1) At the A-0 main menu, press the 5 key to access the F-0 menu to program site titles. 24 System Programming PROGRAMMING BNC INPUT MAPPING You need to map BNC inputs when the camera site numbers differ from the BNC numbers or when your system includes remote slave switchers. CAUTION: Programming of BNC input mapping should be performed by a qualified technician. Digiplex IV can map any camera to any BNC input regardless of its address. Camera 300 does not need to be physically attached to BNC 300. The switcher will recognize a command being sent to a specific addressed camera (i.e., camera site) and will forward that command to the BNC input that that camera is mapped to. See Figure 20. Alternate monitors are used to display video from additional alarming camera sites when multiple alarms occur at the same time. You can assign up to four alternate monitors to the primary monitor listed in menu E-5. If you ve established four alternate monitors, then the primary monitor displays the first alarm, the first alternate monitor displays the second alarm, and so forth until you have the fourth alternate monitor displaying the fifth alarm. A sixth alarm would appear on the primary monitor and any remaining alarms would appear sequentially on the alternate monitors sequencing the alarms previously displayed. Note: A monitor cannot be both an alternate and primary. Once assigned as an alternate, most of a monitor s programming is unavailable. Spot monitors are used to avoid missing alarms. You can assign a spot monitor to the primary monitor listed in menu E-5. If the primary monitor is armed and assigned a spot monitor, an alarming camera site must be called up on the spot monitor to clear the video displayed on the primary monitor (even if the alarm itself is cleared). Acknowledged alarms will display again (after a few seconds) if they are still active. Note: When a primary monitor is sequencing alarming camera sites, individual alarms can be removed from the sequencing queue only after they are acknowledged on the spot monitor. The lock mode arms or disarms a monitor so that it displays or ignores active alarms coming from camera sites. When the lock mode is ON, an uppercase A appears on the monitor showing that it is ready to display video from alarming camera sites. When the lock mode is OFF, the A is not displayed and the monitor ignores all alarms. Generally, alarmed camera sites override selected camera sites for display on a monitor. When a camera site issues an alarm, that camera site appears on its assigned monitor. With the lock mode ON, if you select another camera site, the monitor briefly shows the selected camera site, but then returns to the alarmed site. 39 System Programming PROGRAMMING VIDEO LOSS The video loss card provides its own visual and audible alerts. If a video loss card is installed, monitor 16 becomes dedicated to scanning for and reporting video loss conditions. Monitor 16 is no longer available as a primary, alternate, or spot monitor. Monitor 16 is blank with a green background when there are no video loss conditions to report. The background turns red when reporting a video loss condition. The red warning screen displays the first seven camera sites that are reporting video loss. Additional sites reporting video loss are held in a queue and are displayed on the red screen after alarms associated with the first seven video loss reports are cleared. The video loss card has an attached speaker. The speaker (when the audio alarm is enabled) sounds an audible alert when video loss is detected. The video loss card also has an attached relay. When the relay alarm is enabled and video loss is detected, the relay closes and provides a secondary alert through an auxiliary alarm device (e.g., strobe light or siren). The auxiliary alarm device is connected to the terminal strip on the back of the KTD-440 chassis (see Figure 21). The relay alarm can also be used to trigger a recording device. 45 Troubleshooting 5 TROUBLESHOOTING 5.1 TWO TYPES OF RESETS There are two types of resets for the Digiplex IV system. A soft reset resets the software and cycles the power for a chassis and the cards contained within it. A hard reset clears your system s nonvolatile memory, deletes your custom programming, and restores the factory defaults. See Figure 22. Look for an appropriate response on the LED that is associated with the monitor being tested. Note: The keypad must be in Digiplex mode. See the keypad s manual for details. If the switcher is not receiving the test commands: a) Check the wiring between the keypad and the master switcher. Ensure that the wires are not faulty and the connections are correct. See section 3.1 Installing the KTD-440 Chassis and the keypad manual for the correct connections. b) Check the keypad. Ensure that the keypad is in Digiplex mode, connect it to a CyberDome, and verify that it controls the dome. If it doesn t, replace the keypad. (2) Ensure that the video is correctly mapped for the camera involved. If your video inputs are not mapped, verify that video from camera 1 is connected to video input 1. If your video inputs are mapped, see section Programming BNC Input Mapping. (3) If you have multiple keypads in one or more buildings, ensure that the keypads are daisy chained before running them into the KTD-440 master switcher chassis. Note: Also ensure that the data signal distributors and GE Interlogix domes are downline of the switcher. (4) Ensure that the ribbon cables between the chassis are connected to the correct chassis and fully plugged in. (5) Ensure that all matrix switcher cards are in the correct slots. Verify the status indicated by the diagnostic LEDs. (6) Ensure that all matrix switcher cards are fully plugged in: a) Unplug the chassis 5 VDC power cord. b) Unplug and reseat all cards. c) Plug in the chassis 5 VDC power cord. d) Verify the status indicated by the diagnostic LEDs B / December 2003

54 Appendix C. Addressing APPENDIX C. ADDRESSING THE KTD-443 CARDS The KTD-443 video input card is a 64 input by 16 output crosspoint switcher. The first four positions of the DIP switch correspond to the range of video input numbers for the chassis. The second four positions are reserved for future use. There can be up to eight (in a KTD-442) KTD-443 cards in a chassis, depending on the number of monitors that are receiving video inputs. The first KTD-443 card switches inputs for monitors 1 through 16 and the second switches inputs for monitors 17 through 32. Even though two cards might be switching inputs for different monitors, they share the same inputs, so both must be addressed with the same setting. Note: It is not necessary to remove power from the system or remove the video input cards from a chassis to change the address settings. 1) Use Table 4 to determine the DIP switch setting for the range of video inputs within a chassis. 2) Set switches 1 through 4 to ON or OFF. Adding remote slaves to an existing system usually requires significant system changes. To access cameras that reside on remote slaves, you must program the master matrix switcher to know which cameras can be called up from which remote slaves and which monitors those cameras can appear on. See section Programming BNC Input Mapping. You must run a separate coaxial cable from an output on a remote slave matrix switcher to an assigned video input on the master matrix switcher for each monitor that is assigned to display video from a remote location. See Figure 25. Note: The remote slaves do not need to send the same number of monitor outputs to the master switcher. ASSIGNING THE GROUP FUNCTION TO A KTD-404 KEY To assign a key on the KTD-404 keypad for group switching: 1) Remove power from the keypad. 2) Remove the four screws on the bottom of the keypad. 3) Carefully open the keypad. Do not pull on the ribbon cables. 4) Set DIP switch 7 to ON. 5) Seat the top of the keypad onto the bottom. There is no need to reinstall the four screws at this time. 6) Supply power to the keypad. 7) Access the program keys menu by pressing and holding the set key and, after the tone, entering the 3, 6, 9, seq access code. 8) Press 1 for yes in answer to the question Program Keys?. 9) Press and release any key (except the number keys) that you want to assign as the group function key. 10) Use the joystick to scroll through the key function list to the GROUP function, then press the set key to define the key selected in step 9 as the group function key. 11) Press the set key again to confirm the key definition. 12) Press the seq key to exit the key assignment programming menus. 13) Remove power from the keypad. 14) Carefully lift the top of the keypad off the bottom. Do not pull on the ribbon cables. 15) Set DIP switch 7 to OFF. 16) Seat the top of the keypad onto the bottom and reinstall the four screws. 17) Supply power to the keypad B / December
