1 Data Transmitter 795 Data Transmitter 795 is developed for monitoring of water works, sewage plants, pumping stations and other technical installations. 2 General Data Transmitter 795 is used for monitoring of both large and small SCADA systems, where the data transmitter is used as a substation in Scada systems, or in smaller facilities with just one data transmitter where data is transmitted to one single PC. Data Transmitter 795 has many functions with numerous connection options. Carefully prepared functions reduce the need for external components, which ensures an economical installation and reduces the sources of error. Data Transmitter 795 is a reliable investment and like all MJK products it can always be upgraded. Universal unit for control and monitoring Data Transmitter 795 is a complete unit with in- and output, data logger and transmission of analogue and digital signals. Data Transmitter 795 has thorough prepared software with numerous functions, which makes it easy to connect. The logic operation mode facilitates the daily routines. Operation and configuration Very user friendly with all operation and configuration menus in plain language. menu system with distinct and unambiguous functions function keys for readout of inputs and outputs, alarm list with the lastest 9 alarms and also a menu with telephone numbers for dial out operation and configuration on site via the keyboard or from a PC with MJK-Link software user defined text for alarms, system conditions etc. can be programmed with MJK-Link - either on site or via the communications line. This function is particularly useful when transmitting alarms as SMS messages. Functions Analogue inputs When Data Transmitter 795 has been connected to the process signals, you get an advanced control unit with options for remote control and monitoring. The most important functions are: Data Transmitter 795 has as standard 4 x 0-20 / 4-20mA analogue input, each with 2 limit relays for high and low alarm. High and low limits can be defined as operation signal (for counting or measurements of time, i.e. on a pump) or as alarm signal. Any exceeding of limits are recorded in the alarm list and may cause a dial-up. Analogue input is indicated on the display as bar graph or digits. The analogue input can be scaled for correct indication of the actual measuring value. The scaled value is transmitted through the selected data transmission lines so the SCADA system receives scaled values with measuring units (i.e. flow m 3 /h). 3 Digital inputs and outputs Data Transmitter 795 has 16 digital inputs and outputs in the following combinations: 8 DI / 8 DO, 12 DI /4 DO or 16 DI. The digital inputs is with optocouplers and are grouped in fours with common minus and can be activated with a breaking or nonbreaking switch. The Data Transmitter has a built-in power supply for supplying the inputs. Any input can be defined as operational signal (with counter and/or registration of time) or as an alarm. Alarms are recorded in the alarm list with time and date, and a call to a pager, PC or cell phone can take place. Several inputs in logical combinations can also trig alarm or opreational signals. It is alo possible to set logical functions between digital inputs and analog limits. The outputs has voltage free relays with breaking/nonbreaking contacts. Communication Data Transmitter 795 uses standard PLC protocol for communication. The Data Transmitter can communicate via: public telephone networks GSM / GPRS net Owned and leased lines UHF data radio network And communicate with: PC's SCADA systems Telefax GSM telephones with SMS messages Other data transmitters Telephone and fax The Data Transmitter has a built-in Hayes compatible modem with auto dial and auto answer for transmission on public telephone lines. Transmission speed is 2400/4800 baud. GSM / GPRS The Data Transmitter can be supplied with built-in 900 / 1800 MHz Dual-Band GSM / GPRS modem so just an aerial is needed for communication. Owned lines RS 485 channel for communication on owned and leased lines in multidrop configuration. Data transceiver networking With the built-in protocol for data radio networking the Data Transmitter can communicate through UHF data transceivers between Data Transmitters and a central PC. The Data Transmitter transmits automatically and retransmits if the network is busy or if the transmission is not received error-free. SMS messages Units for dial-up on telephone network or GSM networks can transmit alarms or status messages in plain language as SMS messages to up to 9 GSM telephones. 4 Data logger Data Transmitter 795 has a built-in datalogger, which can log in intervals from 30 sec. and up to 1 hour. The logging capacity is up to 108 days for one signal being logged every hour and up to approx. 43 hours when all signals are logged every minute. Counters and time counters are continuously running and are recorded as today, yesterday and total. Fixed register list One of the big advantages of Data Transmitter 795 is the fixed register list. Data Transmitter 795 transmits via a standard PLC protocol with approx register entries, but the register entries are fixed in difference to i.e. a PLC. The signals for input, output, counters, analogue values and settings have always the same position in the register list. The benefit by the standardized registers is that the same function in the substation has the same place in the register list, just as all functions are defined from the beginning even though they are not used. When expanding the system there are no need for corrections in the register list with consequences for other units on the plant. The fixed register list cover all needs in a SCADA system. It is also possible to expand the monitoring system with other units than MJK Data Transmitter 795 and Comtroller 702. A new driver can always be installed in the system software and in MJK Monitor just as the register plan in the main station can be redefined. Alarms Data Transmitter 795 has an alarm list for the latest 9 alarms. If an input is defined as an alarm input - with or without an alarm call - it will be recorded in the alarm list with time and date. The latest nine alarms can be displayed simultaneously without time and date as well as individual with time and date. A flashing luminous and empty square indicates alarms that has not being reset, reset alarms and no alarm. Alarm for power failure is always recorded in the alarm list. Backup power and monitoring of the supply voltage Data Transmitter 795 has as standard builtin backup battery with automatic charging system for dial-up in case of power failure. In case of power failure, Data Transmitter 795 automatically dial up one or more times and transmit the alarm text "POWER FAILURE" and then shut down. Interlock Nine interlock functions is available. Any data transmitter can dial-up nine individual data transmitters and execute an on/off command for each interlock, i.e. stop of one or several pumps at storm flow, stop of transport pump from neighbour water work at scarcity of water (low level on analogue input) etc. To initiate the interlock function the digital input which has to activate the function are defined, as well as the output on the receiver which have to control the function, and the telephone number and ID-number of the receiving unit is typed in. All signals can be chosen even signals from/to a connected pump controller. Example of programming an interlock function Built-in pump controller Data Transmitter 795 has a function for control of 1 or 2 pumps. A level transmitter (Pressure Transmitter 7060 or Shuttle Ultrasonic Level Transmitter) are connected to analogue input 1 and output relays and functions for control of one or two pumps are chosen in the configuration menu. 4

5 Flow calculation for emergency stormflow Calculation of storm flow on i.e. a pumping station can be made. Flow is calculated as the level in a weir, in a flume or in a pipe. Data Transmitter 795 then records when, for how long time and the water quantity at each storm flow. 6 Communications software MJK-Link TM MJK-Link is a Windows -based program for communication with e.g. Data Transmitter 795. MJK communications software is designed for control and monitoring of water works, sewage plants, pumping stations and heat exchanger centrals, for monitoring of chemical consumption, purification processes, pollution, de-watering etc. MJK-Link is an all-purpose program for control and monitoring of Data Transmitter 795. MJK-Link can address up to several hundred units, dial-up to Data Transmitter 795 (and Pump Controller 704) for readout of inputs and output, counters, measurements and dataloggers. The analogue signals are imported and stored as CSV files, which can be graphically displayed in MJK-Link, just as they can be exported to an Excel spread-sheet. The program has facilities for remote set-up and configuration of Data Transmitter 795, Pump Controller 704 and ComTroller 702. ➀ MJK-Link as service program A very handy function of MJK-Link is to have it installed on the home PC to facilitate communication with substations outside normal working hours. MJK Monitor The professional SCADA system software for larger installations with Data Transmitter 795. MJK Monitor is compared to other SCADA software very simple to configure, since all protocols are predefined. MJK Monitor has integrated report generator for print out of operational and alarm reports and tabulated 24 hour, weekly, monthly and yearly reports. The reports can be exported directly to e.g. Microsoft Access. MJK Monitor can print out selected trend curves. ➀ The illustration shows MJK Link with an overview of a pumping station and the front panel of a Data Transmitter 795 bottom right. The Data Transmitter 795 are operated with the PC's mouse and keyboard in exactly the same manner as in the field, making it possible to perform a complete remote configuration of a Data Transmitter 795 (or ComTroller 702) from the PC. The possibility to save all the configurations on the PC is a great advantage - especially on larger plants - and use all or parts of the existing configurations when expanding the system or when a unit has been taken out of service for repair. ➁ ➂ ➁ The surveillance image of a pumping station with information about level in pit, power consumption, storm flow values, signal for pumps in operation and running hours with values for today, yesterday and total. Alarms for level, thermal trip, storm flow etc. will also be indicated. Trend curves for level, power consumption etc. can also be displayed. ➂ ➃ Storm flow with mixers, pumps, level and flow measurements and alarms for outlet, pumps etc. Water work where raw water and pure water pumps, filters, pressure and outlet flow are monitored. Curves with the individual measurements on the SCADA system can be displayed and also recording of night flow can be used for leak detection. ➃ 6

7 Communication with Pump Controller 704 If a Pump Controller 704 is connected to the serial port on the Data Transmitter 795, the number of inputs and outputs will be extended with: 1 analogue input - the level measurement from the Pump Controller digital outputs - 4 from the pump controllers relay outputs and 1 as the system alarm from the pump controller. 2 x 4 setpoint adjustments for activation / deactivation of the 4 relays for the pumps connected to the pump controller. Number of starts and running hours for each of the 4 pumps. Flow and capacity calculation for each of the 4 pumps and also for the total capacity for the pumping station. All counter values, running hours, number of starts, flow and capacity is logged as today, yesterday and total value. Signals from Pump Controller 704 Pump Controller 704 has a RS 232 port for serial communication with Data Transmitter 795. The following signals are transferred from the pump controller: The level measurement as instantaneous values. Number of starts for each pump (or numbers of alarms). Running hours for each pump (or time measurement at alarm). Pump capacity and volume for each pump. Total capacity for the pumping station. Setpoints for start and stop for each pump or alarm. 7

8 All data registers has values for simultaneous values or total values, average or today and yesterday values. The Pump Controller can receive: Changes of all data registers (i.e. reset of counters). Forced start and stop for each pump. Changes of start and stop settings for each pump and alarm. Full configuration of the pump controller. Pump Controller 704 Controller for level control of up to 4 pumps Pump Controller 704 features: Programming in plain language (menu texts in several languages). Easy to read text display for indication of level, setting of start and stop, readout of number of starts, running hours and also capacities and flow for pumps and pumping station. All data are stored in EEProm (no data loss since there are no battery that can be exhausted). Alternation of 1-4 pumps. Alternation in pairs of large and small pumps. Alternation by running hours. Depth pumping. Number of pumps in simultaneous service. Pumps can be put out of service. Flow calculation. Possibility of 2 sets of start and stop values so the sewer system can be used as storage tank. Pump Controller 704 has built-in routines for: Automatic start of back-up pump at rising or falling level. Selectable alternation of each pump connected. First in / first out alternation. Alternation by running hours. Start delay for each pump to reduce the start current. Selectable limitation of the number of pumps in simultaneous service. Manual start and stop of pumps. Alarms for level or system error (self test). Delay of alarm signals. Flow and capacity calculation for each of the 4 pumps and also for the total capacity for the pumping station. 9 Communication with ComTroller 702 Data Transmitter 795 can be used as a Master i a system with Comtroller 702. General In systems with many ComTroller 702, it can be an advantage to use a Data Transmitter 795 as Master communications and configuration unit. All ComTroller 702 can be configured and operated from the Data Transmitter 795, so can all alarms and operational signals be read out and sent to the SCADA system. ComTroller 702 is a complete locally installed unit for control, data logging, alarm logging and transmission of both analogue and digital signals for application in both small and large SCADA systems. ComTroller 702 is typically connected in clusters with each ComTroller 702 connected in series on a 2-wire communications line. A Data Transmitter 795 is then connected as a Master and functions as the common communications unit. Example of programming of ComTroller 702 from a Master Data Transmitter 795. Functions ComTroller 702 has 2 analogue inputs (0-20 / 4-20 ma) with a total of 8 limit settings for control and alarm and also 4 digital inputs and 4 digital outputs. Communication ComTroller 702 use standard PLC protocol for communication. Every ComTroller 702 has RS 485 repeater so they can be mounted with maximum distance between the units.
