Built in clean mode (takes the cooler off line for 2 hours, automatically switching it back on again) Fits industry standard aperture 71mm * 29mm Programmable set-point Programmable hysteresis Integrated protective cover Python refresh Adaptive technology Real time clock with battery back-up Programmable timer with non-volatile memory Solid state switching of the top pump and compressor refrigeration deck 7. How It Works During trading hours, the Series 1e controls the cooler normally. User defined set-point temperature and hysteresis/differential enables the cooler to function effectively in all environments. Managing the cooler precisely using advanced control electronics and a calibrated temperature probe (supplied), DFx Series 1e maintains the temperature of the product efficiently and accurately. Out of trading hours, the Series 1e enters Energy Saving Mode and maintains the temperature of the product at a maximum out of hours temperature, reducing significantly the amount of energy being used. Then, using advanced control algorithms, the Series 1e learns when to lower the temperature of the product again ready for opening time. This means that by opening time the product is ready to be served as normal, perfectly chilled to your customers satisfaction! Additionally, during the non-trading hours, the unique python refresh function allows the coolant within the python to be regularly replenished. By doing this the Series 1e keeps the product within the python at a suitable, user set, temperature to maintain product quality. A further feature offered by the Series 1e is a diagnostics mode within which it is possible to display the maximum and minimum ice bath temperatures and the maximum and minimum number of compressor cycles experienced per hour by the cooler. 8. Series 1e Controller Installation Please read the following instructions carefully before installing the DFx Series 1e controller: 6 Install the DFx Series 1e controller into the unit using the clamping bracket provided.

Install the temperature probe supplied (housed within its holder and probe clip) inside the ice bath area by clipping it to the cooling pipes. The position of the probe within the holder is determined by the size of the ice bank (see schematic 11.2). Ensure that the temperature probe is installed in the correct position within the holder. Connect the wires from the DFx Series 1e controller screw terminals to the various components of the cooler as per the Series 1e Screw Terminal Schematic (see section 11.). Having made all of the necessary wiring connections, the wires should be gathered together and be bound in place using a cable tie. Care should be taken to ensure that they do not become trapped. THE COOLER SHOULD BE PAT TESTED BEFORE IT IS SWITCHED ON! 9. DFx Series 1e Controller Instructions Please read all of these instructions carefully. Ensure that the cooler has been successfully PAT tested before use. Please note that the controller will wait for a time before starting up. When in energy saving mode EnS will be displayed on the screen. 9.1 Current Ice Bath Temperature The default value displayed on the screen is the temperature that is currently being measured by the probe within the ice bath. 9.2 Setting the Set-point Temperature Hold the set (S) button down for two seconds and then release it. LEDs 1 and 2 should be lit up on the left hand side of the display. The value being displayed is the current set-point (lowest temperature at which the product is kept), measured in degrees Celsius, for the cooler during trading hours. To adjust this temperature press the increment (+) button to increase the value or the decrement (-) button to decrease the value. To store this new value press the set (S) button (this will also take you to the next screen). 9.3 Setting the Hysterisis/Differential Value Hold the set (S) button down for two seconds and then release it. Continue to press the set (S) button until LEDs 3 and 4 are lit up on the right hand side of the display. The value being displayed is the current hysterisis/differential value (permissible variation in the temperature above the set-point value), measured in degrees Celsius, for the cooler during trading hours. So, for example, if the set-point temperature is set at 1 degree Celsius and the hysterisis/differential value is 6 degrees Celsius, the temperature of the ice bath will be maintained 7

below 7 degrees Celsius. To adjust this value press the increment (+) button to increase the value or the decrement (-) button to decrease the value. To store this new value press the set (S) button (this will also take you to the next screen). 9.4 Diagnostics Mode Hold the set (S) button down for two seconds and then release it. Continue to press the set (S) button until LEDs 1, 2, 3 and 4 are lit up on the display. Press the increment (+) button to display the minimum temperature that has been experienced within the ice bath since the cooler was switched on. Press the increment (+) button to display the maximum temperature that has been experienced by the ice bath since the cooler was switched on. Next, press the increment (+) button to display the minimum number of compressor cycles per hour that have occurred since the cooler was switched on. Finally, press the increment (+) button to display the maximum number of compressor cycles per hour that have occurred since the cooler was switched on. When first switched on, no data will have been stored by the Series 1e controller, if this is the case, the display will read 9999 Please Note: If the unit is turned off all diagnostics data will be lost. 9.5 Setting the Time Hold the set (S) button down for two seconds and then release it. Continue to press the set (S) button until SEtC is displayed. Press the increment (+) button to display the current time. Next, to change the time, press the select ( ) button. 9 Hold the set (S) button down for two seconds and then release it. Continue to press the set (S) button until YEAr is displayed. Press the select ( ) button to display the current year. To change the flashing digit, press the increment (+) button to increase the value or the decrement (-) button to decrease the value. To move to the next digit, press the select ( ) button. Once the correct year is being displayed press the set (S) button to save this setting. 9.9 Leap Year/Daylight Saving The Series 1e controller will automatically adjust its clock to accommodate leap years or the summer time clock change until the year This means that once the date and time have been set during installation, they should not need to be reset until this date. However, it is recommended that the clock is checked at least once per year to ensure that the clock has not experienced any drift. If the device is being used in a country where summer time clock changes do not occur this function should be turned off. To turn the daylight saving function on/off press the set (S) button until LItE is displayed. Press the select ( ) button to display/change the current status of the daylight saving function. To turn the function on press the increment (+) button. To turn the function off press the decrement button (-). To save the changes made, press the set (S) button Trading Hours Set THE SETTING OF THE TRADING HOURS IS ESSENTIAL AND MUST BE DONE WHEN THE COOLER IS FIRST INSTALLED. The Series 1e controller uses the establishment s trading hours to optimise energy savings. During trading hours, the Series 1e controller will ensure that the product is kept within the range of the set-point temperature and the hysterisis/differential. Hold the set (S) button down for two seconds and then release it. Continue to press the set (S) button until HOUr is displayed. Preprogrammed trading hours run from 11:00 22:00, however, for the Series 1e controller to work correctly it is essential that the establishment s own trading hours are programmed into the device. The Series 1e controller allows different trading hours to be set for each day of the week (7 days). So, for example, if the establishment opens between 11:00 23:00 on a Monday, but between 11:00 19:00 on a Sunday this can be programmed into the Series 1e controller. Once programmed, the Series 1e controller will manage the temperature of the ice bath out of hours so that the product is brought back down to within the temperature range of the hysterisis/differential, ready for opening time. This ensures that the first beverage dispensed will be chilled, just like the last. The Series 1e controller also allows the cooler to be turned on for up to 2 different periods each day, which is useful if the establishment closes for lunch. For example, the trading hours on 9

a Monday could be set between 8:00 12:00 and 14:30 22:00. If the establishment opens between 11:00 on a Tuesday but closes at 02:00 on a Wednesday morning (i.e. it is open until 2 am) it is necessary to program the Series 1e device as follows: In this case the user would need to set the trading hours to be between 11:00 24:00 on a Tuesday and 00:00 02:00 on a Wednesday. Programming the Series 1e device like this will ensure uninterrupted power to the cooler between the hours of 11:00 on a Tuesday and 02:00 on a Wednesday. Setting Opening and Closing Times: Hold the set (S) button down for two seconds and then release it. Continue to press the set (S) button until HOUr is displayed. Press the select ( ) button to enter the Trading Hours Set mode. Trading hours are programmed according to day, starting with Sunday. Note: Trading hours can be programmed to the nearest 10 minutes. Up to 2 different opening (OPEN) and closing (CLOSE) times can be set for any given day, for example, if an establishment opens between 10:00 12:00 and 15:30 17:00 on a Sunday these opening and closing times can be programmed into the device for Sunday. Each day and each opening and closing time needs to be programmed separately, one after the other. With the name of the day for which opening hours are to be set being displayed, press the select ( ) button to begin inputting the opening hours. The first time being displayed (with LED 1 flashing) represents the time at which the establishment first opens on the selected day. To change this time, press the increment (+) and decrement (-) buttons until the correct time is shown. In the example given, 10:00 should be entered. To save this time, press the select ( ) button. The next time being displayed (with LED 2 flashing) represents the time at which the establishment next closes on the selected day. To change this time, press the increment (+) and decrement (-) buttons until the correct time is shown. In the example given, 12:00 should be entered. To save this time, press the select ( ) button. The next time being displayed (with LED 3 flashing) represents the time at which the establishment opens, for the second time, on the selected day. If necessary, change the time as described. In the example given, 15:30 should be entered. To save this time, press the select ( ) button. The next time being displayed (with LED 4 flashing) represents the time at which the establishment closes, for the second time, on the selected day. If 10

necessary, change the time as described. In the example given, 17:00 should be entered. To save this time and move to the next day, press the select ( ) button. Repeat the process, as before, for each of the subsequent days of the week. In some cases not all opening and closing times will have values (for example, when an establishment is only open between 11:00 and 17:00 and does not open for any other periods of the day). Where this is the case all other opening and closing times must be set to OFF. This should be done (when changing the time) by pressing the increment (+) button until OFF is displayed on the screen ( OFF is found after 24:00). Opening and closing hours should be set in chronological order. The table found in section 12.2 may be useful when programming trading hours into the Series 1e controller. An example of how the table may be used is also shown (12.1). Please Note: If your establishment s trading hours are likely to fluctuate slightly it is advisable to adjust the trading times to accommodate this. However, this may result in a reduction in energy savings. Example: The trading hours for the example table (found in section 12.1) are as shown below. Note how Thursday s trading hours have been written into the table. Monday: 10am 2pm Tuesday: 11am 2pm, 3pm 6pm Wednesday: 10am 2pm Thursday: 11am 2am Friday: 10am 2pm Saturday: 11am 2pm, 3pm 6pm Sunday: 10am 12pm Should invalid trading hours be entered, the 1e controller will display Err. All errors must be corrected before exiting the Trading Hours Set mode. NB: Both the OPEN and CLOSE times of an invalid entry should be checked to ensure that they are both correct Python Refresh When the Series 1e controller is in energy saving mode, the python refresh function replenishes the coolant within the python to maximise energy savings and maintain product quality. By default, this function should remain on, however, if necessary this function may be turned off. To turn the python re- 11

fresh function on or off, hold the set (S) button down for two seconds and then release it. Continue to press the set (S) button until PYTH is displayed. Press the select ( ) button to display the current status of the function. Should the status need to be changed, press the increment (+) button to turn the function on and the decrement (-) button to turn the function off. Press the set (S) button to save this new setting Setting the Out of Hours Temperature To maximise energy saving out of hours the product is allowed to rise above the normal set-point temperature. The maximum temperature to which the coolant in the bath is allowed to rise out of hours is set, by default, to 7 degrees Celsius. This temperature should be reviewed and changed by the user, if necessary, according to the product type being refrigerated. The higher the out of hours temperature, the greater the energy saving. However, it is recommended that the out of hours temperature is not set to more than 7 degrees above the set-point temperature. Please Note: The Series 1e controller will automatically pull down the temperature of the product to serving temperature ready for opening time. To change the out of hours temperature, hold the set (S) button down for two seconds and then release it. Continue to press the set (S) button until SEtt is displayed. Press the select ( ) button to display the current out of hours temperature. To change the temperature press the increment (+) button to increase the value or the decrement (-) button to decrease the value. To store this new value press the set (S) button (this will also take you to the next screen) Reset Resetting the Series 1e controller will reset all optimisation settings that have been stored on the controller. All other settings will remain. To reset the controller, hold the set (S) button down for two seconds and then release it. Continue to press the set (S) button until rst is displayed. To reset the controller, press the select ( ) button, when the device has been reset, done will be displayed Returning to the Current Temperature To return to the current temperature screen from any of the other menu items, wait for the controller to time out or press the set (S) button until --.- is displayed Clean Mode Pressing the increment (+) and decrement (-) buttons together will put the controller into clean mode ( CLn will be displayed on the screen). This turns the components of the cooler off for two hours (or until the set (S) button is pressed) to allow cleaning to take place. 12

9.16 Override When the controller is in energy saving mode (and EnS is displayed), the product temperature is allowed to rise above the hysterisis/differential of the set-point temperature to the maximum out of hours temperature. An override function exists, should the product need to be maintained within the range of the hysterisis/differential of the set-point temperature out of hours (for example, if the establishment remains open out of normal trading hours). To turn the override funtion on press the select ( ) button, when the controller is in energy saving mode. To turn the override function off press the select ( ) button again, or wait for the next trading period to begin. 10. Warning Signals 10.1 High Temperature Should the temperature of the ice bath rise to 2 degrees Celsius above the hysterisis/differential and set-point temperature, the current temperature being displayed on the screen will start to flash. Should this continue for a prolonged period of time under normal conditions, the unit should be turned off and serviced Temperature Probe Fault Should a fault be detected with the temperature probe, 88.8 will be displayed on the screen and the compressor will be switched off.
