1 1 Introduction 2 MTC 6 commissioning by skilled personnel only This quick start guide applies to all MTC 6 models. Please read this quick start guide carefully. Carefully read and comply with the safety information and the mounting instructions provided with the MTC 6. Keep all documents for future reference. This quick start guide provides information about: software configuration, mechanical installation and electrical installation of the MTC 6 industrial PC. Latest manuals and device drivers on the Internet Go to (Download menu) for detailed manuals for the: MTC 6 industrial PC DLoG Config configuration software ADLoG Standard Linux image (login required) Current device drivers are available at: WARNING Hazardous voltage, electric shock from contact with live parts. Only skilled electronics specialists and mechanics may carry out electronic and mechanical installation work on MTC 6 industrial PCs and put them into operation. Only IT specialists with a good knowledge of PCs, operating systems and wireless networks may configure the MTC 6. If the MTC 6 is incorrectly installed and configured, any warranty provided by DLoG GmbH for this device will be rendered void. Do not put the MTC 6 into operation if it is visibly damaged. 2 3 Perform the software configuration first and then carry out the mechanical/electrical installation 4 MTC 6 software configuration Configure the MTC 6 before fastening it to machines or vehicles, because in this way software configuration for the Wi-Fi function, for automatic shutdown, etc. is significantly simpler and more convenient. Prerequisites to connect the MTC 6 to an AC power supply: Advantech-DLoG power supply cable Advantech-DLoG Preconverter (a special table supply power unit), to connect the MTC 6 to an AC power supply. The Preconverter is specially prepared to simulate a vehicle s ignition signal: DC+ and Ign are connected with the +Pole of the power supply. 4.1 Images for Intel or AMD processors Please observe: Images for the MTC 6 with Intel processor can not be used on MTC 6 devices with AMD processors; they are not compatible. Likewise, images for AMD devices are not able to run on Intel devices. If an incorrect image is used, a blue screen will appear with the following information: 0X B. You can check to BIOS setup of the device to determine if it is equipped with an Intel or AMD processor. NOTICE: Physical damage The MTC 6 series is equipped with an integrated, galvanic isolated power supply for direct voltage. 12/24 VDC and 24/48 VDC models are available. The output voltage of the Preconverter must be compatible with the input voltage of the MTC 6. 3 4.2 MTC 6 with Microsoft Windows: DLoG Config The DLoG Config software is used to configure MTC 6 devices with a Microsoft Windows operating system. Aspects such as the following are configured: Automatic shutdown Wi-Fi status display Front-key assignment Network settings Start DLoG Config by choosing Start -> Programs -> DLoG: DLoG Config (Run as administrator) or by clicking the Config icon on the taskbar. DLoG Config default password: "gold". DLoG Config is automatically started in admin mode. It is only possible to save settings in admin mode. 5 Wi-Fi settings CAUTION Radiation emissions from Wi-Fi. It is necessary to comply with the applicable regulations for the relevant country with regard to frequencies and the maximum permissible transmitting power. Responsibility for this lies with the company operating the MTC 6. The regulatory authorities in the relevant country can provide information on this. Wi-Fi configuration The MTC 6 is supplied with a default profile containing basic Wi-Fi settings. To create a custom profile, please use the preinstalled Wi-Fi configuration program on your MTC 6. Depending on the Wi-Fi driver used, the following programs are available: 4.3 MTC 6 with ADLoG Linux You will find the configuration description for the ADLoG Standard Linux image at (Download menu, login required). 4 6 Mechanical and electrical installation Before the installation: The installation environment must not result in a closed system. The cooling system of the MTC 6 requires a supply of fresh air. Otherwise, there is a danger of overheating and damage to the device. Ensure that the ground connection is correct. Some forklifts have a chassis that is connected to DC+. Therefore, the MTC 6 chassis is also connected to DC+. However, if you use peripheral devices that supply DC- to the MTC 6 via an interconnector (such as a DC- serial port), this will cause a short circuit. This will inevitably lead to malfunctions or even a total system failure. Detailed information on correct grounding, potentials, etc. In the MTC 6 manual at (Download menu). Important when installing on vehicles: Use a suitable point for the ground connection. Some vehicle manufacturers specify exactly where the ground signal is to be taken from. External connectors: MTC 6 with integrated 12/24 VDC power supply: Ground bolt MTC 6 with integrated 24/48 VDC power supply: Position and connect the MTC 6 as close to the battery as possible. 5 7 Sequence of installation steps 8 Strain relief and cable cover NOTICE: Physical damage Hold the MTC 6 by the housing when transport and installing it. Never use the antenna cap as a handle. Requirement: The vehicle/installation location must be prepared (e.g. connection to the ignition, correct voltage, etc.). Before the MTC 6 is put into operation, the strain relief and associated cable cover must be attached. The protection class of the MTC 6 is only ensured if the strain relief and cable cover are fitted properly. NOTICE: Physical damage Improper installation can result in liquid penetrating into the MTC 6 during operation. There is then a risk of short-circuiting, corrosion, and wear. 1. Find a suitable installation position for the MTC Secure the device holder (installation bracket, RAM mount; optional) to vehicle/to set-up location. 3. Connect external accessories (optional) to the MTC Install an easily accessible disconnecting device such as a switch or circuit breaker close to the device. 5. Connect the device to the power. 6. Seal cable passages with cable grommets and dummy grommets. 7. Close the MTC 6 with the cable cover. 8. Install the MTC 6 on the device mounting. Observe the installation instructions Observe the installation instructions "Attaching the cable cover to the XMT 5 / MTC 6" describing: How the cables are run and attached to the strain-relief rail. Any other or additional use beyond this is deemed improper. The user/operating company of the MTC 6 is solely responsible for any resulting damage. This also applies to unauthorized modifications made to the device. MTC 6 industrial PCs: Are not approved for use in potentially explosive areas (EX zones). Are not approved for use on ships. Are not approved for use in life-support systems or safety-critical systems where system malfunction can result in the direct or indirect endangerment of human life. 7 10 End-of-life device disposal 11 Technical customer support MTC 6 devices that are defective or ready for disposal are considered to be special waste and can be recycled. They must not disposed of with general/domestic waste. Proper disposal in accordance with local regulations is required.
