Network Integration Engine (NIEx9) for Third-Party Integrations Product Bulletin MS-NIE9xx-0, MS-NIE39xx-x, MS-NIE49xx-x, MS-NIE59xx-x, MS-NIE89xx-x Code No. LIT-093 Software Release 9.0 Issued December 07 Refer to the QuickLIT website for the most up-to-date version of this document. Important: NIEx9s are compatible with Metasys system Release 7.0 and later. You may apply the dual trunk integration feature to NIEx9s purchased prior to the current release by using the NIEx9 Driver Manager tool. For information on how to apply the latest package and license files that support dual trunks, refer to the NIEx9 Driver Manager Application Note (LIT-099). Network Integration Engines (NIEx9s) for third-party integrations enable IP connectivity and web-based access to Metasys Building Management Systems (BMSs). The NIE39/NIE49 models enable cost-effective NIEx9 connectivity and control in smaller facilities, and can extend NIEx9 supervisory functions in larger facilities. The NIE59 models support a comprehensive set of supervisory features and functions for large facilities and technically advanced buildings and complexes. The NIE89 is a high-capacity server model that integrates large networks into a Metasys network. The NIE89 supports either 0,000 or 5,000 objects. Figure : NIE59 Network Integration Engine NIEx9s leverage standard building management communication technologies, including BACnet protocol; LONWORKS protocol; N Bus protocol; Modbus, M-Bus (EN 434-3), and KN protocols; and third-party proprietary protocols to monitor and supervise a wide variety of HVAC, lighting, security, fire, electrical and thermal measuring, and access control equipment. For third-party integrations, one NIEx9 can support two Modbus integrations, two M-Bus integrations, or one integration of each. NIEx9s provide comprehensive equipment monitoring and control, scheduling, alarm and event management, energy management, data exchange, data trending, and data storage. NIEx9s feature an embedded Site Management Portal (SMP) UI, support multiple concurrent web browser sessions with password and permission access control, and provide the protection of industry-standard IT security. The NIE9 models enable compact and combined solutions including supervisory and control capacity. They can be used in smaller facilities where an all-in-one (supervisory, control, and integration) platform is required. Modbus Integrations use a Vendor Generator Express (VGE) tool that creates vendor Modbus definition (VMD) tables for specific third-party equipment. You can purchase tables from the System Integration Services North America (SIS-NA) or the SIS-Europe office, or you can create them with the VGE tool. The VGE tool requires certification and licensing for its use. To obtain a license, attend the training listed in Features and Benefits Communication Using Commonly Accepted IT Standards at the Automation and Enterprise Level Allows you to install a system on your existing IT infrastructure within a building or enterprise and use standard IT communication services over the company intranet, WAN, or public Internet with firewall protection. Web-Based User Interface Allows you to access system data in the NIEx9s from any supported web browsing device connected to the network, including remote users connected by dial-up telephone or an Internet service provider (ISP).

Support for Web Services at the Automation Network Level Allows you to develop facility-specific advanced data interfaces and applications. Embedded Site Management Portal System Configuration Software Provides you with password-protected access to system configuration, monitoring, commanding, diagnosis, and cloud-based applications from any device with web browser software without the need for separate workstation software. Supervision of Controller Networks Including BACnet MS/TP, BACnet IP, N Bus, LONWORKS, Modbus RTU, Modbus TCP, M-Bus (EN 434-3) serial and IP, KN IP, and third-party protocol devices Supports connectivity to open network standards for complete flexibility in the selection of field devices. Support for Dual Trunks Significantly improves the flexibility and extends the investment of integrations to third-party equipment. The dual trunk feature potentially reduces the number of NIEx9s required on a project and allows you to add integrations to existing NIEx9s that are at Release 7.0 and later. You can more easily adapt to the requirements of projects that have fewer devices that require integration but use separate networks and different protocols. NIEx9 Networking NIEx9s have multiple connection port options that allow you to build an extremely flexible network at the automation and enterprise level of your system, as well as at the field controller and data acquisition levels. IP Ethernet Network NIEx9s connect directly to IP Ethernet networks running at 0, 00, or,000 Mbps (depending on the model). Authorized users log in to the Site Director to access the entire Metasys system for the site. Data transmission on the network uses standard IT protocols, services, and formats. Networks in different buildings may be interconnected using standard WAN technologies and network service providers. The speed of transmission depends on the technology used. Remote Access to NIEs The NIEx9 can be accessed remotely over standard WAN infrastructures, over the Internet using an ISP line, or over the public telephone network using a modem and Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP). Most NIEx9 models support an external modem. Launcher Application The Launcher is a software application that you download when you browse to any Metasys server or supervisory engine on the building network. After you install the Launcher software, use it to launch the SMP UI. For details, refer to the Launcher Tool Help (LIT-074). ADS/AD The Application and Data Server/Extended Application and Data Server (ADS/AD) is an optional software package running on a computing platform that provides a location for storage of the system configuration database, trend logs, alarm logs, audit trails, and graphics. An ADS/AD configured as the Site Director allows more concurrent users and coordinates access to all components on a site connected over the network, Internet, or telephone line via dial-up communication. Refer to the Application and Data Server (ADS) and Extended Application and Data Server (AD) Product Bulletin (LIT-055) for more information. Field Networks and Protocols The NIEx9 communicates data from one field network to another and from the field network level to the enterprise and automation network level, enabling your system to operate as one virtual control network. Automation Level Communication NIEx9s communicate internal system data using peer-to-peer BACnet messaging over the IP Ethernet network. Each NIEx9 shares data and can access information on the other NAEx5s or NIEx9s connected on the network, which enables coordination and control of the entire BMS. BACnet Protocol The automation level communication also supports the BACnet protocol and facilitates the network integration of other systems and devices that use BACnet.

The NIEx9 supports the BACnet services and objects typically used by a workstation and a field controller device, including BACnet alarm, scheduling, trend, and event services. MS/TP FC Bus The BACnet Master-Slave/Token-Passing (MS/TP) Field Controller (FC) Bus is a standard peer-to-peer, multiple-master protocol in which each master device takes turns originating messages to pass to any device on the bus. Via the MS/TP FC Bus, NIEx9s can communicate with the Metasys Field Equipment Controller (FEC) family of controllers, including FEC6 and FEC6 field equipment controllers; Advanced Application Field Equipment Controllers (FACs); VMA6 and VMA83 Variable Air Volume controllers; and IOM7, IOM7, IOM37, and IOM47 input/output control modules. NIEx9s can also communicate over the FC Bus with TEC6xx Series thermostat controllers and third-party MS/TP devices that comply with the BACnet standard protocol based on ANSI/ASHRAE Standard N Bus The N Bus is an open Johnson Controls field communications trunk that links Application-Specific Controllers (ASCs) and programmable controllers to a supervisory controller. ASCs include Air Handling Units (AHUs), Unitary Controllers (UNTs), VAV controllers, and VAV Modular Assemblies (VMAs). Programmable controllers include the D900. The N Bus supports Metasys system compatible devices from other manufacturers and the Metasys Integrator system. LONWORKS Bus Specified NIEx9 models can supervise LONWORKS devices if the network interface follows current LONMARK guidelines and uses the Free Topology Transceiver (FTT0). The LONWORKS network interface in specified NIEx9 models supports all current LONMARK certified devices, including Johnson Controls devices such as: LN Series Controllers NexSys controller line LONWORKS enabled programmable Flexible System Controller (FSC). Modbus Modbus is one of the most common Master-Slave communication protocols used in the industry. It is openly published and royalty-free, making it relatively easy to deploy as an industrial network. Modbus transmits raw bits or words, placing few restrictions on vendors. NIEx9 supports both Modbus RTU (RS-485, RS-3) and Modbus TCP/IP connectivity. Depending on the protocol, a converter may be required to connect the NIEx9 to a Modbus network. M-Bus M-Bus (Meter Bus) is a European standard (EN 434-3) that applies to heat meters. Heat meters measure the heat absorbed or released by an energy-conveying liquid in a heat-exchange circuit. An M-Bus level converter, such as an RS3-to-M-Bus converter, is required to connect the NIEx9 to an M-Bus network. For connection to the Ethernet network, an M-Bus-to-IP level converter is required. KN Bus KN Bus is used to control lighting, blinds and shutters, heating, and attendance systems. KN (KONNE) was created from the EIB (European Installation Bus), BatiBUS, and EHS (European Home System) protocols. A KN IP Gateway is required to connect the NIEx9 to a KN network. Third-Party Protocols NIEx9 can supervise different networks that use other standards or proprietary protocols. The flexibility of the platform allows the integration of devices on both serial (RS-3, RS-485) and TCP/IP levels. Dual Trunk Support You can commission an NIEx9 to monitor and control two Modbus, two M-Bus, or one Modbus and one M-Bus protocol integrations. This capability reduces the number of required NIEx9 engines and provides greater flexibility when integrating different equipment. Table illustrates the different dual trunk combinations supported for each engine. Some integrations use a protocol converter as a required accessory. For details, see. 3

Figure : Metasys Network with Multiple NIEx9s Software for Efficient Building Operation NIEx9s ship with the latest version of the Metasys system software, which have the following features: Metasys Site Management Portal User Interface provides data and graphic screens to supported web browsers. Authorized users log in to the NIEx9 using the Launcher application to access the SMP UI. This embedded user interface is ideal for smaller networks and remote locations where a dedicated computer platform to support a user interface is not required. Remote Services Connection allows easy and secure communication between the Metasys system and cloud-based applications. To make this connection, the Metasys system requires minor programming and setup by Johnson Controls. When you are connected, you can access multiple cloud-based applications and features. To learn more, please visit the Building Management page located on the Johnson Controls website. Monitor and Control collects data from the field devices and then coordinates and sends the required commands to the controlled equipment at the required priority. Global Search allows you to search the Metasys system and manage lists of objects, which can be used by other features for commanding, trending, reporting, and object selection. Global Command allows you to send a single command to multiple objects and view a log of the command results. Transaction Recording audits and logs all user actions performed through the NIE. Alarm and Event Processing enables NIEx9s to send alarm and event messages to web browsers, pagers, servers, Network Management systems, and serial printers, as well as store and view alarm and event logs on the NIEx9 and transfer it to an ADS/AD. Historical Trend Data can be collected by NIEx9s for any monitored value at user-defined intervals, or trending can be based on change of value (COV). You can use trend logs to analyze building system performance and locate system problems. NIEx9 trend logs can be transferred to the ADS/AD at defined intervals or when the NIEx9 logs are full. Totalization Data allows you to monitor energy use (and other consumables) and generate cost reports to support utility cost reductions. It also provides data for service, maintenance, and early identification of building system problems. Trend Studies allows you to view multiple trend extensions in a single view to facilitate monitoring and troubleshooting your Metasys site. 6

Scheduling allows you to define occupancy periods and start and stop times for mechanical or electrical equipment. Operating parameters can be set according to time of day, day of the week, holiday, or for calendar dates. Network-Wide System Interlocking enables NIEx9s to collect field controller data, make logical comparisons, and issue relevant commands to other field controllers anywhere on the network. Optimal Start automatically determines the best time to start heating and cooling systems to ensure that the facility is ready for occupants. It adjusts to seasonal variations and reduces energy use. System Security enables an NIEx9 to recognize legitimate users with valid user IDs and passwords at the SMP UI. User access data is encrypted in the transmission and in the NIEx9 database. The system administrator manages user profiles, authorization levels, user ID, password, and specific NIEx9 data access privileges in each user account. Demand Limiting and Load Rolling (DLLR) monitors energy meters for electricity, gas, steam, or water, and automatically sheds equipment loads according to user-defined levels. Demand Limiting helps manage utility demand charges. Load Rolling controls equipment operating levels to reduce total energy consumption. Comfort overrides prioritize equipment shedding. Database Configuration Management allows you to define the Metasys system configuration and database offline for download to the NIE. All the required database configuration software resides on the NIEx9 or SCT. You do not need a copy of the database on your local client computer to make authorized changes. The NIE9 has 33 onboard I/O control points and a Sensor/Actuator (SA) Bus. The SA Bus allows you to connect Input/Output Modules (IOMs) and increase the I/O control points in your application. You can also connect NS Series network sensors and supported variable-frequency drives (VFDs) to the SA Bus, and integrate state-of-the-art temperature control and motor speed control into your NIE9 application. You define and configure the 33 I/O points on the NIE9 and the I/O points and devices on the NIE9 SA Bus in the Controller Configuration Tool (CCT) software.
