Laser Safety Precautions Please, read this chapter carefully before the first operation of the device. The DATA count JR-D device is using two class 3R visible laser sources for the small objects counting process. But, because of the protective housing design, the product itself is a class 1 laser product. Class 1 laser product is safe during the normal use. Class 3R laser source could produce low risk of ocular injury under intra-beam viewing. Therefore, during normal operation, the device does not pose any risk to the operator. But technicians that may open the protective housing during service must wear protective eyewear having at least OD1.5 for nm, during service. The DATA count JR-D product is designed and built to comply with the last version of the International Standard for laser products IEC : Following are the safety means that are incorporated in the product to comply with this standard. 1. Protective housing: The laser beams were enclosed within a solid protective housing that prevent any laser radiation leak outside. 6

2. Identification, Classification and warning labels: An identification label, classification label (class 1), and warning label (for class 3R) are posted on the product, at locations shown on the following figures CAUTION Class 3R visible laser radiation when open. Avoid direct eye exposure CLASS 1 LASER PRODUCT 7

The power cord must be plugged into a grounded power socket. 10

Important Notes 1. Do not touch the plastic bowl when it is connected to the machine and particularly do not apply any force to it. 2. Keep the bowl perfectly clean. Any piece of dust can cause miscounts. Use air pressure and/or a damp cloth that leaves no remains to clean the inside of the bowl. Cover the machine when it is not in use. 3. New plastic bags tend to have sticky material leftovers from the production line. This material can cause stones to stick to each other. Refrain from using those when you want to recount the stones. 4. Any operation, other than counting, should be carried out while the electrical power is unplugged. 5. To clean the detectors follow the directions described in the Cleaning the counting detectors chapter. 6. Clean exteriorly with a damp cloth, only when the machine is unplugged. 7. The machine must be placed on a stable and leveled table. 8. Do not pour more than 250 carats all at once into the machine. 9. Make sure you always position a bag before starting to count. 10. Do not insert fingers or any other object into the machine at any time. 11. Do not touch the bowl while it is vibrating. 12. Do not remove the bag during counting. 13. Do not dismantle the machine. 14. Do not expose the machine to sunlight, moisture, or dust. 15. After counting a preset number, the display will show the resulting number of stones in the bag and not necessarily the preset number (see Counting a preset number of stones ). 11

Cleaning the counting detectors From time to time, dust may be stuck on the counting detectors. This can cause miscounts. When a counting process is initiated and the machine detects an obstruction on one of its detectors it will show an error message of Clean detector 1 or Clean detector 2. In some of the cases it can also show Call Service Er1 or Call Service Er2. A special cleaning mechanism was designed for the DATA Count JR-D. To clean the detectors properly, follow the next steps: 1. Turn off the machine and unplug it from the electricity. 2. Rotate the upper case of the machine counterclockwise one click, until you see the air nozzle on the left side (see picture). 12

3. Use clean dry compressed air and blow 2 to 3 puffs of air into the machine s nozzle. Make sure you hold the compressed air tank upright when you blow the air (see picture). 4. Check to see if the warning message appears again. 5. If the message appears again, try repeating sections 1 to 4 once or twice. If the message does not disappear, please contact your service provider. Caution Use only clean dry compressed air with no additives. Do not touch the plastic bowl and particularly do not apply any force to it. 13

Positioning a bag Caution New plastic bags tend to have sticky material leftovers from the production line. This material can cause stones to stick to each other. Refrain from using those when you want to recount the stones. 1. Spread out the bag s opening. 2. Move the machine s outlet lever up. 3. Position the bag s opening on the machine s outlet and move the lever down so it closes on the upper lip of the bag. 14

4. If the bag is not positioned well, a Place Bag or Cup message will be displayed when starting the counting process. 5. To release the bag at the end of the counting process, lift the lever up and take out the bag. 15

Static Electricity Effects and Prevention In some cases (usually when counting small diamonds), stones may stick to each other or to the bowl because of static electricity. To prevent it from occurring and to prevent inaccurate counting, please make sure you follow these rules: 1. Use an ionizer (can be purchased for additional cost),(see the Ionizer Assembly and Operation). 2. When pouring the stones, spread them around on the base of the bowl, so they don t pile one onto each other. Pour the stones gently into the bowl, a little at a time to discharge initial static build up. 3. Static electricity usually appears in low humidity atmosphere. Keep the area around the machine at around 55% relative humidity. 4. Sometimes the stones stick to each other before you even start the counting process. If you suspect the stones come pre-charged with static electricity, run the counting a few times until they are discharged of it and the counting is correct. 16

Basic Counting Caution The DATA Count JR-D machine is intended only for counting GEM stones. Do not count anything else in it! Make sure the stones are clean from dirt and dust before pouring them into the bowl. Do not touch the plastic bowl and particularly do not apply any force to it. Counting a group of stones 1. Sort your stones by size according to the DATA Count JR-D Sizes. It is possible to count mixed sizes, but the more you mix sizes, the less accurate the result would be. Remove any broken stones and dust to ensure accurate counting. 2. Turn on the power switch located at the back of the machine. 3. The display screen shows for a moment: DataCountJR V1.X 4. Carefully pour the stones into the bowl. The display screen shows: Count Until? 17

Counting a Preset Number of Stones Caution The DATA Count JR-D machine is intended only for counting GEM stones. Do not count anything else in it! Make sure the stones are clean from dirt and dust before pouring them into the bowl. Do not touch the plastic bowl and particularly do not apply any force to it. DATA Count JR-D can be used to count a preset number of stones. Note that the DATA Count JR-D may sometime count a few stones more than the specified number. For instance, if you have chosen to count 100 stones, counter may count 101 stones. The display screen will show 101, the exact number of stones counted. This is not a malfunction. DATA Count JR-D stops counting when it has reached the specified number, but because some stones may fall together, a number of stones may be in midair while the machine is stopping. Notes: To make the counting effective and quick, make sure the feeding track is full. If there are gaps between stones at the end of each counted batch, the end of the process will be delayed. Thus, when counting the last batch, it is better to count it all without setting a preset number. After the counting has stopped, take out the bag and remove the excess stones by hand. 21

To count a preset number of stones: 1. Sort your stones by size according to the DATA Count JR-D Sizes. Remove any broken stones and dust to ensure accurate counting. 2.
