3 Device Description 1. Device Description This metal detector and separator system have been specially developed for the high sensitivity requirements of the pharmaceutical industry. Thanks to its adjustable height and tilt, the system can be set up directly behind tablet presses or dedusters in order to save space. The metal detector is made entirely of stainless steel (1.4301, AISI 403). Thanks to the brushed surface of the device (or polished if desired), stringent hygiene demands are fulfilled. Metal Detector Aperture The standard aperture is 80 mm x 25 mm (W x H). Base Sensitivity All types of metals (iron, stainless steel, non-ferrous metals, etc.) are shown. The device is designed for the highest levels of base sensitivity. Separator The separator is made entirely of Makrolon (lower part is colored; protective cover is transparent). The transparent protective cover enables optimal visual monitoring of the system. All parts that come into contact with products are easily accessible and can be cleaned without any difficulty, such as when products are being changed. Separator Activation As standard, the separator flap is activated electromagnetically. A fast response ensures that contaminated tablets can be accurately ejected. The separator flap is controlled in such a way that it moves to the separator position in the event of a power failure. The electromagnet can optionally be replaced by a pneumatic control unit for the separator flap. Frame The frame is made entirely of blasted stainless steel. Mounted on wheels, the entire system can easily be moved to where it is needed. Two rigid wheels prevent the system from accidentally moving. Using quick-release screw terminals, the tilt (30 60 ) and the inlet height ( mm above the pneumatic spring) of the metal detector and separator system can be adjusted. The design is such that even in the horizontal pivoting range (0 360 ), absolute stability of the system is ensured. Evaluation Electronics The associated evaluation electronics are microprocessor-controlled and have been designed for the highest levels of detection sensitivity. The two-channel technology enables parallel operation for maximum iron and stainless steel/non-ferrous metal detection sensitivity, when there is no product effect. In addition, the evaluation electronics are also a major component in operating data collection. When connecting a customer network (with optional Ethernet interface), the metal detector becomes an indispensable aid with regard to product liability thanks to its complete documentation of the most important information regarding production status.
