2 Considerable advantages Instead of all signal lamp circuits being switched from the traffic control units directly, PLUS technology enables the signal lamp circuits to be switched decentralized, i.e. in the signal heads themselves. For this, a single, thin special cable for control commands and energy starts at the control unit and goes from signal mast to signal mast. The advantages are considerable: Installation (cables laid underground) and start-up are extremely inexpensive. The expenditure on cables, wires and installation work is reduced substantially. Extra signal groups can be added on much more easily. The reduced number of clamp connections for each mast now means even greater reliability. 10 V signal lamps are fed via at least one transformer on the mast, thereby eliminating the individual transformers required for each signal head chamber in the case of conventional 10 V technology. 40 V signal lamps are fed analogously by technically adapted transformers on the mast. Important: No mixed technology of 40 V LED and 10 V signal lamps! The method of operation: Clear and simple With PLUS technology, the switching commands are sent as data telegrams via the data and power supply cable to all the connected modules at intervals of 1 millisecond. The commands, however, are effective only at that module whose address matches the telegram address. In the opposite direction, status indications of each lamp are sent to the control unit in the form of data telegrams with a source address. The transfer processor (PLM) passes these indications on to the corresponding modules for further processing. Special methods ensuring an extremely high level of reliability and protection are used for the transfer of commands and messages. The signal heads (10 V lamps or 40 V LEDs) are supplied via transformers in the outdoor installation. Each transformer is permanently connected on the primary side to the power line in the data and power supply cable. The signal heads are connected to the secondary voltage of the transformer by the lamp switch module in accordance with the control commands. A new type of protection concept The technology's high data-transfer capacity requires a new type of signal protection concept. The status of each individual signal element is detected continually, transferred to the control unit, and subjected to a desired status/actual status comparison. The signal elements are also monitored when the system has been switched off (power-on is prevented and a fault is indicated if the safety criteria have not been fulfilled). In addition, the PLUS signal safety system executes continual test routines covering all electrical parts of the installation. The PLUS signal protection system is a further development of the proven signal protection system of the SITRAFFIC C800V control unit. It is equipped with all the features of that system. 3 PLUS technology: Fewer cables, quicker work, greater reliability Siemens PLUS technology is an interesting and beneficial alternative for the supply of data and power to traffic signal installations. It means considerably fewer cables, quicker start-up and expansion work and greater reliability of the nodal points. In the SITRAFFIC C800 family of control units, there are products which make use of this advantageous PLUS technology and are suitable for 10 V lamps and also for the new 40 V LED technology. 4 New units for SITRAFFIC C800 equipment with PLUS technology! The traffic control units with PLUS technology contain all the function groups of the SITRAFFIC C800 family of control units. For the PLUS control units SITRAFFIC C800VP, C800VPX, C840VP and C840VPX, the following new units have been developed: PLM (PLUS module) plugged into the BSE signal protection module PLP (PLUS backplane) converter for the outdoor installation PLUS cable for distributed lamp switches They replace the conventional chain of control PHM phase bus module (plugged into the BSE signal protection module)- LSC central lamp switch-terminal in the control unit for each signal-head color. One single data and power supply cable is all that s needed The PLUS control units are each connected to the peripheral modules by means of one special data and power supply cable. This cable contains three 1.5 mm 2 copper cores for supplying power and one coaxial cable for transferring information. It sends serial data telegrams to the signal heads and receives their feedback signals. Diverse lamp switch modules for 10 V and 40 V technologies The 10 V lamp technology of SITRAFFIC C800VP, C800VPX and the 40 V LED technology of SITRAFFIC C840VP and C840VPX differ from each other in that they use different lamp switch modules: Module LMP (10 V) LML (40 V) FDP (10 V) FDL (40 V) Maximum interfacing 2 vehicle signal heads 3-field (FA) 1 pedestrian signal head 2-field (FU) 2 vehicle signal heads 3-field (FA) 2 pushbutton detectors with acknowledgements for pedestrians The peripheral lamp switch modules are provided at least once for each signal mast. The lamp switch module is usually inserted in the lower chamber of a signal head (FA or FU). After reaching the last signal mast, the data and power supply cable can be taken back to the control unit (double infeed of supply voltage). 10 V lamp technology At least one PLUS holder with transformer is attached to each signal mast in order to supply the 10 V for the signal heads and the operating voltage for the peripheral modules of this mast. The transformer of this master signal head can cope with a maximum load of 90 W. If the load is clearly below this limit, an additional signal head with an LMP or FDP on the same mast can be supplied with power from this transformer. The primary voltage (supply voltage 230 V) is supplied via the data and power supply cable. The PLUS holder acts as an upper holder of the signal head. It also contains the terminal block for cable connection. 40 V LED technology The signal heads for central and decentralized equipment are identical. Lamp switch modules and transformers can be built into the signal head chambers; PLUS holders and similar are then no longer necessary. The primary voltage continues to be 230 V; the technical features of the control unit itself are largely identical to those of 10 V lamp technology. 5 The signal heads with PLUS technology: Only 10 V technology needs a special assembly Assembly for 10 V signal heads At least one signal head per signal mast, i.e. the P master signal head, is fitted with a module and a special fastening element, the PLUS holder. The latter has been designed for screw-attachment or attachment by means of a tightening strap. The PLUS holder is designed as a terminal box through which the data and power supply cable is routed. The cover can be removed to facilitate installation. A terminal block is for secure connection of the data and power supply cable and its connection to the P master signal head. The cable cores and the terminals are color-coded to help prevent connection errors. The transformer is fastened underneath the terminal box by means of a latch connection for power supply. The lamp switch module is fitted in the lower signal head chamber (green field) with the aid of a special bracket. Mounting of the signal heads A normal supporting bracket is used as the lower fastening element for the P master signal head. The P signal heads of an instal-lation as well as the Minimaster 200 and Minimaster 300 signal heads are mounted with normal clamps and supporting brackets. Only two-field and multi-field versions of the Minimaster 200 can be mounted. The terminals and the transformer are housed in the upper signal head chamber, the specially developed transformer being designed to cope with a maximum load of 50 VA. The LMP or FDP module is fitted in the bottom chamber. In the case of the Minimaster 300, all the components can be housed in one signal head chamber. Therefore this Minimaster is to be used as the 1-field version. Double reflectors A second red lamp can be connected to the P master signal head and monitored individually or at the same time as other lamps (2 x 20 W). The Minimaster 200 and Minimaster 300 signal heads cannot be fitted with double reflectors. No special assembly for 40 V LED signal heads In contrast to the 10 V lamp technology, the 40 V LED technology does not require any special assembly. A module has to be installed in at least one signal head chamber per signal mast. The corresponding transformer can be housed in a mast distribution box or in another signal head chamber. 6 The PLUS diagnostics concept: Perform tests without covering the signal heads For the PLUS system, a special diagnostics concept has been developed with which all the parts of the outdoor installation can be tested. At the heart of the concept is the PLUS diagnostics unit that can be used to test the peripheral LMP/FDP or LML/FDL lamp switch modules and the signal elements before start-up. A connection to the control unit and a power supply connection are not necessary in this case. This unit tests the functioning of the module, the correctness of the addresses (according to the layout diagram) and the functioning of the signal heads. After connection to the control unit, the connection to the modules as well as the flashing yellow function can be tested. These tests are possible without the danger of inadvertent signaling. As a result, the signal heads no longer have to be covered during testing as in the past. The PLUS diagnostics unit DIAP: Portable, battery-powered,... Since the battery also powers the modules and indicators to be tested, the mains voltage is not needed for testing. In order to test a 40 V LED outdoor installation, an additional adapter is required. About 150 modules can be tested with one battery charge. The built-in battery is maintenancefree and has a useful life of at least 5 years. The battery is charged by means of a separate battery charger or, if in a vehicle, via a car connector. A 5-meter flexible cable is used to connect the item of equipment to be tested. This facilitates the choice of a location on the construction site....easy to use... The unit comes installed in a sturdy aluminium housing with an adjustable handle. All the controls and the display are arranged on the front panel, which is protected by a transparent hinged cover. The operator uses buttons and the display to operate the diagnostics unit with the help of menuguidance. The test results are shown on the display....and with handy storage compartments for accessories On the back of the unit is a detachable storage compartment for such accessories as the battery-charging cable and the cable for supplying power from the car battery. In the top of the unit is a compartment for storing the test cable. The unit is protected against splashwater. Adapter for 40 V LED technology For the new PLUS technology in the SITRAFFIC C840VP and C840VPX control units, 40 V LED signal heads are used instead of 10 V pressurized lamps. New lamp switch modules LML and FDL have been developed to operate the new light sources. In order to ensure continued use of the PLUS diagnostics unit DIAP, the DIAP 40 V adapter (S D219-A1) must be interposed. The PLUS diagnostics unit DIAP
