SECTION 1. INTRODUCTON 1.1 GENERAL The JAD-832 Joystick Controller Unit consists of a joystick, switches, and keypad interface to provide remote control of the camera, lens, and pan/tilt functions for a FastScan /SmartScan system. The JAD-832 Joystick Controller can be used to control and program a CATS Series Video Switcher. This controller interfaces to various equipment types to enhance the capabilities of the FastScan/SmartScan system. These equipment types are the DIA-01 Control Interface Adapter, Hand Controller Interface Panel, MUX-05 Multiplexer, CATS Series Video Switchers, and COE-08A/16A Active Output Expander Unit. All of these units provide the communications interface for the JAD-832 Controller to control a FastScan/SmartScan system. Up to five JAD-832 Joystick Controllers can control a system simultaneously if a MUX-05 Multiplexer is installed. The MUX-05 Multiplexer receives all commands entered by operators at the JAD-832 Controllers. If control of the same camera is requested by more than one operator, the MUX-05 gives control of the camera to the operator requesting control last. If a CATS Video Switcher is also installed, the operators can simultaneously control the switcher. 1-1

SECTION 2. INSTALLATION AND INTERCONNECTIONS 2.1 GENERAL This section describes the handling procedures, interconnecting cabling requirements, and the installation set-up procedures for the JAD-832 Joystick Controller Unit. 2.2 HANDLING PROCEDURES Each container shipped by Diamond Electronics is labeled with the customer order number, the Diamond Electronics order number, and the items contained therein. In addition, each container has a carton number and the total number of cartons shipped in any given lot. On receipt and during unpacking, each item must be compared to the shipping documents accompanying each shipment to ensure that all items have been received. Notification must be supplied to Diamond Electronics and the delivering carrier immediately if any discrepancies have occurred. Most Diamond Electronics equipment is packaged with the protection of "foamedin-place" polyurethane dunnage. This packing medium provides a reusable container for any subsequent reshipment. The polyurethane molds itself around each object to provide an upper and lower enclosure. Care should be taken in unpacking to ensure that the wooden crating or the corrugated fiberboard container is not damaged. Only the strapping or the tape needed to open the top of a container should be cut. Staples may also be used in some containers. Care should be taken to avoid puncturing any container with unpacking tools such as nail pullers, knives, or shears. Each container and its plastic-covered polyurethane enclosures should be stored for reuse in the event that reshipment of any item becomes necessary. 2-1

No item should be removed from its shipping container for any prolonged period of time until it is ready for permanent installation. All handling of equipment outside of its protective packaging must be performed with utmost care. Any installation of equipment not accomplished by Diamond Electronics personnel must be accomplished in strict accordance with these procedures so as not to void any warranty provisions. 2.3 INTERCONNECTING CABLING REQUIREMENTS A coiled cable assembly (P/N ) is provided with the JAD-832 Joystick Controller Unit for connection to the various equipment types. CAUTION Do not use commercially available telephone-type cable to connect the Joystick Controller to any interface equipment or improper operation will result. Use only the lower impedance cable supplied with the unit to make connections. The JAD-832 Controller requires +5Vdc to operate. The DIA-01 Control Interface provides the +5Vdc required. If the JAD-832 Controller is plugged into the front panel controller connector on the CATS Video Switcher or the MUX-05 Multiplexer, a DIA-01 Control Interface is not required. If the JAD-832 Controller is connected to the rear panel COMM connector of the CATS Video Switcher or any of the rear panel DIN connectors on the MUX-05 Multiplexer, a DIA-01 Control Interface is required to power the JAD-832 Controller. 2-2

1. JOYSTICK CONTROL Movement of the joystick up and down provides the tilting of the pan and tilt unit; movement of the joystick left and right provides the scanning (pan) of the pan and tilt unit; movement of the joystick at an angle provides both panning and tilting; and turning the joystick knob clockwise/counterclockwise provides the zoom functions. The joystick control is rate proportional; the farther the joystick is moved, the faster the function is performed. 2. FOCUS SWITCH This switch, when pushed up, provides far focusing; when pushed down, it provides near focusing. 3. IRIS SWITCH This switch is only functional when the MIO-100 Auto/Manual Iris option is installed in the FastScan or SmartScan assembly. Upon power-up of the system, this switch is disabled. The iris function is set to automatic. To enable the switch, you must select manual iris (FUN>9>ENT). Once enabled, pushing the switch up, opens the camera lens iris; pushing the switch down, closes the camera lens iris. 3-2

4. SLIDE SWITCHES CAUTION These switches are for Diamond Electronics internal use only. They are not intended for customer use. Operation of these switches will release the spring return action of the joystick causing continuous panning and/or tilting action and will void all warranties. The vertical switch, when pushed up, releases the spring return action of the joystick operation controlling the panning. The horizontal switch, when pushed to the left, releases the spring return action of the joystick operation controlling the tilting. 5. DISPLAY The display shows the camera number the controller is currently controlling and the monitor number the camera is called to. The display also shows each keystroke as it is entered. Any input errors may be corrected by pressing the CLR key and reprogramming. The display blinks at various data entry points to indicate more data is required to complete a command. 3-3
