It is designed and manufactured to meet rigid U.L. safety standards against X-radiation, fire, casualty, and electrical hazards. The following are statements required for UL certification, related to safety procedures that must be adhered to during installation. Follow these general precautions while installing telephone equipment: Never install telephone wiring during a lightning storm. Never install telephone jacks in wet locations unless the jack is specifically designed for wet locations. Never touch uninsulated telephone wires or terminals unless the telephone line has been disconnected at the network interface. Use caution when installing or modifying telephone lines. When installing Base Stations outside or in buildings other than the one containing the System Controller, take the following precaution: If wiring for a Base Station exits a building whether to reach an outdoor Base Station location or to reach a Base Station in another building the wiring must be protected at both ends by a Quick Clip Fuse from Illinois Tool Works, Linx Division, model number SCP-2X2. On the back of this equipment is a label that contains, among other information, the FCC Registration Number and Ringer Equivalence Number (REN) for this equipment. If requested, this information must be given to the telephone company. This equipment uses RJ-21 connectors. The REN is useful to determine the quantity of devices you may connect to your telephone line and still have all of those devices ring when your number is called. In most, but not all, areas, the sum of the RENs of all devices connected to one line should not exceed five (5.0). To be certain of the number of devices you may connect to your line, as determined by the REN, you should contact your local telephone company to determine the maximum REN for your calling area. If your telephone equipment causes harm to the telephone network, the telephone service may discontinue your service temporarily. If possible, they will notify you in advance. 6 Industry Canada (IC) Notice Notice: The Industry Canada (IC) label identifies certified equipment. This certification means that the equipment meets telecommunications network protective, operational, and safety requirements as prescribed in the appropriate Terminal Equipment Technical Requirements document(s). The department does not guarantee the equipment will operate to the user s satisfaction. Before installing this equipment, users should ensure that it is permissible to be connected to the facilities of the local telecommunications company. The equipment must also be installed using an acceptable method of connection. The customer should be aware that compliance with the above conditions may not prevent degradation of service in some situations. Repairs to certified equipment should be coordinated by a representative designated by the supplier. 7 Siemens Hicom optiset Integration This document describes the recommended programming to use the SpectraLink Wireless Telephone System (WTS) with the Siemens Hicom 150 E and 300 E/H Communications Server (CS). The procedures assume: The system is a Siemens Hicom 150 E or 300 E/H Communications Server. The Hicom system is equipped with optiset E telephone line cards. The Siemens Hicom CS system is installed and initialized. A trained Siemens technician or system administrator will be on site with the Installer to program the system. The Wireless Telephone System will be installed with SpectraLink wireless telephones that emulate Siemens optiset E desktop telephone in the following configuration: PBX Model Desktop Phone Model Required Hicom Port Card Required Minimum Hicom Software Hicom 150 optiset E Basic SLMO24, SLU8 Version 520x SMR E+, using Assistant HA500B Hicom 300 optiset E Standard SLMO Model E CS: Versions 6.4, 6.5 Model H: Version 1.0 The wireless telephone will be programmed during the installation process to support many of the functions provided by the Siemens Hicom CS system. The following procedures will help the system administrator set up the SpectraLink Wireless Telephones to operate in a way that feels familiar and comfortable to users. Plan Ahead Programming Before the system is installed, verify the customer data entries for the site s system and telephones, and plan the programming required for the SpectraLink Wireless Telephones. Programming will be faster if you determine this information in advance. It may also help to identify a key layout that is programmed exactly or close to the way the Wireless Telephones should be programmed, and use the programming for that set as a model for programming the Wireless Telephones. Line Appearances - the SpectraLink Wireless Telephone supports two line appearances for the Hicom 150 and four line appearances for the Hicom 300. Determine what extension numbers will be assigned to the Wireless Telephones, which line or lines should ring at which Wireless Telephone; and which line will be selected when the user goes off-hook. Programmable Feature Keys - the Wireless Telephone supports programmable keys as shown in the Key-map Diagrams below. Determine which features, if any, should be programmed on the SpectraLink Wireless Telephones. Feature keys that are not subject to programming restrictions (described in the Programming Requirements section) can be programmed to any optiset feature on the Wireless Telephone and do not have to match the assignments on the user s desktop telephone. 8 Key-mapping the Wireless Telephone to Emulate optiset Functionality The Key-map Diagrams show the mapping of the Siemens Hicom optiset E keys and buttons to the SpectraLink Wireless Telephone key sequences. FCN + indicates that the Function button on the Wireless Telephone is pressed first and then the number button is pressed to access the feature programmed to the corresponding key. Line + indicates that the Line button is pressed. For example, the Wireless Telephone user will press LINE then 1 to select Line Appearance 1, which should be programmed to the bottom right button. 9 Siemens optiset E Standard - Hicom 300 emulation The FCN and LINE labels represent the key sequence on the Wireless Telephone mapped to the corresponding key on the optiset E. The feature labels to the right of the keys represent one possible mapping scheme, but any feature may be programmed to keys that do not have setup restrictions described in the Programming Requirements section. The Wireless Telephone displays a Line icon that corresponds to each line key identified in the diagram (LINE + 1 to LINE + 4). See the Wireless Telephone Icons section below for an explanation of the icons. The MSG icon lights on the Wireless Telephone when there is voice mail. This is the only use for this key sequence (FCN + 2) and requires the optiset key shown above with the Mailbox label for the Phon feature. The Wireless Telephone function menu has these default settings: FCN + 0 = Select FCN + 1 = Mute (pre-programmed to mute the microphone in the Link WTS) FCN + * = Previous FCN + 2 = Voice mail (corresponds to the Mailbox feature key above) FCN + # = Next FCN + 9 = Exit (exits the function menu) Part Number: B-W.doc Page 3

10 Siemens optiset E Basic - Hicom 150 emulation The FCN and LINE labels represent the key sequence on the Wireless Telephone mapped to the corresponding key on the optiset E. The feature labels to the right of the keys represent one possible mapping scheme, but any feature may be programmed to keys that do not have setup restrictions described in the Programming Requirements section. The Wireless Telephone displays a Line icon that corresponds to each line key identified in the diagram (LINE + 1 to LINE + 4). See the Wireless Telephone Icons section below for an explanation of the icons. The MSG icon lights on the Wireless Telephone when there is voice mail. This is the only use for this key sequence (FCN + 2) and requires the optiset key shown above with the Mailbox label for the Phon feature. The OptiGuide Select, Previous, and Next keys do not exist on the optiset E Basic desktop telephone, but these functions will display and can be accessed on the Wireless Telephone using the default function menu sequences shown below. 11 The SpectraLink Wireless Telephone Display The Wireless Telephone has a two-line, 16-character alphanumeric display. The Wireless Telephone will only display the first 16 characters of each line of information provided by the Hicom CS when the Wireless Telephone is off-hook, even though the Hicom CS is capable of providing up to 24 characters per line of information. Therefore, the last 8 characters are truncated. The caller identification line produced at the Hicom CS utilizes the first few characters for the extension number plus a space. This leaves 8 to 12 character spaces available for the name text assigned by the system administrator to be displayed on the Wireless Telephone. Consideration should be made to ensure the display name will be meaningful on the Wireless Telephone. Certain characters may be used by the Hicom CS that are not implemented in the Wireless Telephone. Flashing characters are not implemented on the Wireless Telephone, nor is rolling or scrolling of text. Although the optiset E Basic telephone does not have a display, any display information sent by the Hicom CS will be displayed on the Wireless Telephone. If the user finds that the Wireless Telephone display is frozen, simply power off the Wireless Telephone then power it back on to recover calling function. Wireless Telephone Icons The Wireless Telephone icons are indicators of line or intercom usage. The Line Indicators are associated with line access keys. The Status Indicators are associated with Voice Mail (MSG), low battery function (BATT), and service interruption (NO SVC). When Lines are programmed as shown on the Key-map Diagrams, the numeral icons on the Wireless Telephone display will be mapped to the LEDs associated with the corresponding Feature Keys. 12 Setting the Switch Interface Type The Link 150 M3 MCUs require the switch interface type to be configured using the front panel buttons. The configuration procedures are detailed in the Installation and Operation section of the Link 150 M3 Master Control Unit System Documentation. The following table lists the Line LEDs that are lit for the Hicom switch interfaces. Switch Interface Line LEDs MCU Type Hicom 150 1,2,5 SCH516 Hicom 300 3,5 SCH516 When configuring the Link 3000 MCU, the Hicom 150 and Hicom 300 interfaces are available as sub-menu selections when defining the Interface Module type using the Link 3000 MCU Operator s Console. Refer to the Operator Console section of the Link 3000 Master Control Unit System Documentation for details on configuring the Interface Modules. Feature Programming Requirements Line Sequences The Wireless Telephone uses two types of key sequences to access PBX features and multiple lines. Line sequences are those where the user presses the LINE button and then a number button. The key-map design designates line optiset E keys that should be programmed for line appearance so that they correspond to line sequences on the Wireless Telephone. The line icon on the Wireless Telephone will reflect activity on the corresponding optiset E telephone key. For this reason, it is recommended that line appearance keys on both the Hicom 150 E Basic optiset E and the Hicom 300 Standard optiset E should be used only for line access. If only one line is assigned to a particular Wireless Telephone, leave the other designated line keys identified on the key maps unassigned on the optiset E. The Wireless Telephone key sequences Line+2 to Line+4 will then have no function. Function Sequences In the same way, function sequences are those where the Wireless Telephone user presses the FCN button and then a number button. Designated function optiset E telephone keys programmed to Hicom CS features such as Transfer and Conference may have their corresponding menu items display on the Wireless Telephone function menu. Functions 3 though 6 (on the optiset E Basic) and functions 3 through 8 (optiset E Standard) are available for feature programming. Note that the function menu defaults set for the Wireless Telephones associated with the Link 3000 MCU can be changed via the SpectraLink Operator s Console. To minimize unwanted interaction between the OptiGuide display and the Wireless Telephone function menu display, configure the Wireless Telephone menu to include a delay of one function key. The user will then have to press FCN twice before the Wireless Telephone Part Number: B-W.doc Page 6

13 menu displays, allowing the first press of the FCN key to access OptiGuide functions. See the SpectraLink System Documentation manual for further procedural information. Another option is to disable the optiset menu at the Hicom CS and exclusively use the SpectraLink menu. This would remove any unwanted interaction, but would also restrict the number of available features to the number of programmable keys on the handset. For the Link 150 MCU, the Wireless Telephone function menu can only be changed via remote configuration through the services of SpectraLink Customer Support. Hold The Hold feature should be programmed to the Hold key as shown on the Key-map Diagrams so that when the HOLD button is pressed on the Wireless Telephone, the call is placed on hold. Mute The Wireless Telephone Mute function is hard-coded in the Link WTS to FCN+1. This function sequence is recommended for the Link WTS, but the system administrator can assign the Mute function to any available function key sequence or leave the function unassigned. Voice Mail The message-waiting icon (MSG) on the Wireless Telephone is activated with the message indication of the optiset E. The Mailbox or Phon feature on the optiset E must be assigned to the feature key as shown in the Key-map Diagrams. Do not assign any other feature to this key, since the associated LED is directly mapped to the messagewaiting icon on the Wireless Telephone. This LED assignment must be used in order to support the message-waiting icon. Using this key for any other feature or for line access could cause unacceptable system performance. Speakerphone Because the Wireless Telephone has no speaker, speakerphone function and functions that require the use of the volume keys will not be made available on the Wireless Telephone. Disable all speakerphone features, particularly any hands-free features that activate the speaker with the telephone on-hook. Ringing Types Wireless telephone ringing types (soft, loud, vibrator, etc.) are programmed by the Wireless Telephone user and are not accessible or changeable by the Hicom switch. Whenever possible the audible ringer on the Wireless Telephone will follow the cadence provided by the Hicom switch. Call progress tones provided by the host Hicom CS will be passed through to the Wireless Telephone. OptiGuide Menu The OptiGuide menu can be activated when the Wireless Telephone is active, but onhook. Pressing START while in the active state (achieved after pressing START for the first time) toggles the Wireless Telephone between on-hook and off-hook states. The Part Number: B-W.doc Page 7

14 ability to activate the OptiGuide menu in this mode is useful because some optiset E features (such as Call Forwarding and Do Not Disturb) are only available when the phone is on-hook. The user must remember to press END after a session because the active state of the Wireless Telephone requires more battery power than the idle state. Although the optiset E Basic telephone does not have OptiGuide context-sensitive feature keys, the key codes used for the OptiGuide keys are recognized by the host Hicom CS and can be used on the Wireless Telephone. Refer to the Key-map Diagram notes. Prime Line Impacts If a Wireless Telephone is used in conjunction with an optiset desk telephone, each phone is configured on the Hicom CS as an independent phone with its own phone number (each device is assigned to a separate Prime Line). In order for both an optiset E telephone and a Wireless Telephone to ring together, the extensions need to be set up at the Hicom CS to ring at the same time. A called party s display of the originating line will be different when the Wireless Telephone makes the call compared to the optiset telephone. The name text could identify the source of the call to avoid confusion. For example, the display name of the Wireless Telephone could be stored as Smith WT at the Hicom CS. Display names should me kept to a minimum so the full name is displayed on the Wireless Telephone (see The SpectraLink Wireless Telephone Display section above for more details). It should also be noted that the class of service (COS) of the Wireless Telephone is related to the Prime Line of the phone and not the line appearance. Speed Dial Users should be made aware that stored speed dial and redial features will have to be saved separately for the optiset E telephone and the Wireless Telephone. Additionally, the Last Number Redial feature will only apply to the device from where the original number was dialed. Hicom 300 Phone Test Access Code The Hicom 300 Phone Test (access code*940) will not work on the SpectraLink handset. Button Programming For the Hicom 150, phone button programming (access code *91) will not work. All button programming must be done by the administrator and not the user. Part Number: B-W.doc Page 8
