The SolutionCenter is a comprehensive, practical and modern software environment for automation technology and a clear answer to the increasing cost pressure in automation. The all-in-one package impresses through its efficient integration of all tasks during the entire lifecycle of the automation solution. Finely tuned to systems and devices with experienced user input, the SolutionCenter sets new standards for performance, comfort and efficiency. Always the correct view of the project. The SolutionCenter is built up from numerous, seamlessly integrated partial components ("plug-ins"), which control one or more windows ("views", "editors"). The central "framework" brings them together and ensures optimal interaction. Depending on the current project design step, a suitable combination of windows (interaction areas) can be used. In addition, such views of the overall project can be put together even according to individual preferences. These "perspectives" ensure a workflow that is perfectly adapted to the capabilities and demands of the user. 6 Efficiency redefined. Project design and configuration In the project design environment of the SolutionCenter, hardware and software are administered as partial components and added graphically to an application. Operating system files, prefabricated components such as Web server and mail client and also hardware modules are organized in catalogs ready for use, which can be easily managed, archived and passed on. Even created application programs, fieldbus configurations and prefabricated hardware modules up to complete control configurations can be transmitted as desired in both directions between the PC and the controller hardware. Supported flexibility The modules of the Bachmann M1 automation system distinguish themselves through great adaptability, whereby the number of different hardware components is reduced. This flexibility is supported completely by the SolutionCenter: The configuration parameters of all hardware and software modules are accessible in dialogs, and all supported fieldbuses (CAN, Sercos, Profinet RT, Profinet IRT, EtherCAT, Profibus, Modbus, ) can be completely configured directly without the use of additional software and passed on to the devices. Adapted to the user The flexible window division and the detailed user rights administration in the SolutionCenter lets every group of users gain an optimal view of their tasks. The integrated "Device Manager" assists the user from the original planning of the control topology, to the wiring test in the electrical installation, to assistantsupported software update and archiving of all module versions and serial numbers before delivery. 6

7 From the signal designation to the software All I/O signals can receive meaningful names on the controller regardless of the type of the fieldbus or the type of module. These names not only provide better recognition in diagnosis but can also be used in the software for addressing or can be directly actuated as a variable. The signal designation can also be taken directly from the electrical plan for the electrical cabinet. Conversely, EPLAN users have available all hardware modules of the control system as certified libraries. 8 Program continuously. Programming The automation system can be programmed in the automation technician's familiar environment: All five languages of the IEC standard are likewise supported, as are C, C++ and Java. The optimal programming language can thus be chosen for every automation subtask, whereby the generated software modules on the controller can be combined as desired. The process technician sees the implementation directly on the system and can influence it "online". Consistently implemented PLCopen standards The classic IEC programming system of the automation industry is CoDeSys. The results of standardization are implemented consistently, through which the reusability of code is ensured. A separate function block editor with the necessary special functions is integrated for the safety-oriented programming as per IEC It marks safe signal paths and ensures correct transmission of the program code through redundant transmission and verification. The components are implemented in accordance with the PLCopen Safety Standard and certified by the TÜV (German Technical Inspection Agency). Most convenient tool The "C/C++ Developer" integrated into the SolutionCenter is one of the most convenient programming tools for embedded systems in the market. The high-quality editor for C and C++ has code completion, syntax coloring and syntax checking during entry. It displays call-up hierarchies, jumps to the declaration of variables and functions and represents the inheritance of objects. In program creation, a genuine preemptive multitasking with crosscommunication across all possibilities of the operating system can be achieved. In the debugger, connections to running programs can also be created subsequently. All tasks can be stopped with break points independently of each other and run through in individual steps, whereby the presented variable values can also be changed "online". 8

9 C/C++ Automatic code generation with MATLAB /Simulink The language variety of the M1 system permits using tools for automatic code generation. MATLAB /Simulink, the established tool for modeling dynamic systems, can thereby be used directly as an additional programming tool. Applications from control technology or signal analysis are developed on the PC, tested against a model on a case by case basis and then transferred by mouse click to the real controller as an application program. The sensor/actuator signals of M1 modules used in the model can already be added to Simulink and configured. Unique in the industrial environment are the possibilities for model-based development via UML, which has been used for years by many users for the application programming of the M1 system. 10 Operate intuitively. Visualization The visualization package "M-JVIS Designer" is a comprehensive software solution for all tasks of full-graphics machine and system control. The continuous graphical user interface makes it possible to develop and design Web-capable, multilingual and platformindependent Java visualizations with just a few actions and entirely without programming knowledge. 10 Integrated into engineering Creation of the visualization is closely coupled to the control technology. For that reason, the "M-JVIS Designer" uses the synergy effects that result from integration of the tools in the SolutionCenter. Process variables, which are present in the controller's software and hardware, can be "dragged and dropped" into the visualization project and be presented there. Scope and trend records are first created, tested and graphically designed in the "Device Manager" before being taken over 1:1 into the visualization. The records can be stored on the machine terminal and later opened again for analysis in the "Device Manager". Versatile and platform-neutral The applications developed with the "M-JVIS Designer" can be loaded directly onto the target devices of the M1 automation system. Through the platform-neutral Java technology used, it is also possible to store entire HMI projects as applets on the Web server of the controller and let them be accessed by other PCs or terminals via Web browsers. The applets can also be executed as normal programs on the PC. Online multilingual Any user languages can be configured in parallel. During creation, the graphic editor can be switched completely between languages and character sets. As a result, the layout and page display can be seen in Asian languages or Cyrillic letters. Every true-type font installed on the PC can be used. For execution on terminals, the required true-type fonts for the target system are automatically generated and transferred to the target device together with the project. During operation, the visualization program can perform a language change without restart or page change. For transfer to a translation office, the language texts can be exported and re-imported after editing.

11 Any layout desired There are virtually no limits placed in the design of graphic layouts. The screen is divided into several, optically connected "frames", where these can also be interlaced with each other. Page changes are implemented either within a frame or in full screen. Color schemes can be predefined for applications subject to strongly changing sight conditions, e.g. day / night. The schemes can also be changed at operational run-time. Real-time curves at maximum resolution The software oscilloscope on the controller can be controlled directly from the visualization project. The temporal resolution reaches into the microsecond range and represents highly dynamic events in the production process for the machine operator. Representation of multiple channels, assignment of the channels to individual scales and the use of measurement curves is possible. For further analysis and postprocessing by process experts, records can be opened in the "Device Manager". Open program interface The supplied pallet of graphic elements can be expanded by some user-specific components. These are then available in the graphic pallet and can be placed on the screen with the supplied graphic elements and configured in their static and dynamic characteristics without further programming. The user-specific components can thereby offer their own commands as a reaction to an event. For execution of any external programmed algorithms, components without graphic visibility can also be created and used. 12 Parameterize precisely. Parameter setting and communication Flexible communication and networking are an important component of Bachmannsystems. The embedded fieldbus and network configurators permit easy integration of manufacturer-neutral buses and support the user at all levels. All fieldbuses included All fieldbuses supported by the M1 system can be configured with the "Device Manager" and placed in operation without the help of other tools. The respective standards are applied thereby. All standard-conforming devices can be taken unto the device catalog and added to the control system. The configurations can be created "offline" and then transmitted to the devices. It is also possible to create them directly on the device. The configuration can subsequently be opened, changed and saved by the device at any time without the presence of project files on the PC. This noticeably simplifies start-up and diagnosis on site. Standardized drive control Through the "Drive Middleware" software layer, adaptation of the application to the drive technology used is greatly simplified. After selection of drive and operating mode and the subsequent placement in the fieldbus configuration, the necessary process data are automatically configured, initial values entered and a generic interface generated for the application. And so the drive can be operated without having to consider the peculiarities of the respective drive profile. 12 For all fieldbus process data resulting from a configuration, so-called logic modules are created automatically according to the "Unified Fieldbus model (UFB)". These behave for the application program like local I/O modules and so allow uniform access to process values. A case distinction by fieldbus type is not necessary.

13 Modbus Standardized OPC server Connection to a visualization system, control station or a PDA system is made over standardized protocols. The certified M1 OPC server offers a data access interface. For application in the energy sector, a client and server for MMS communication in accordance with the power plant protocols IEC or IEC can be operated directly on the control. Libraries for Java or DLLs are available for Windows programming for direct communication from self-created programs. 14 Malfunction-free operation. Diagnosis and service In start-up and system optimization, the tools integrated in the SolutionCenter help achieve high system transparency. The multifaceted monitoring and debugging tools can be used in broad areas and considerably shorten start-up times. In addition, improved system availability is achieved through an efficient process diagnosis. 14 Detailed logbook In the logbook, all relevant information about the start procedure and ongoing operation of the controller are visible and thus provide the user an overview of the error search. Besides the operating system, the messages of all user programs are also logged there. The I/O signals directly reachable over the SolutionCenter permit a fast sensor/actuator test, without program resources or project files being needed for it. Clearly arranged status and task list All hardware and software modules recognized by the system are listed, with their exact status, whereby defective modules are graphically marked. Likewise, the current utilization of the CPU is depicted as a whole or by priority groups. The task list permits an additional specification: All tasks that were started by the system and the application programs on the CPU are displayed with the measurement values for run time, interval time, memory use and stack reserves. Essential tool With the "Scope" task in the SolutionCenter, the sequential course of dynamic processes together with the comprehensive functions of a real-time digital storage oscilloscope can be presented directly on the controller. It it is an essential tool for optimizing regulator settings, for error search in a sequencing program or for the ongoing check of the production process on the machine. The recorded curves can be mathematically reworked (scale, masking, derivative, integral, addition, ) and evaluated numerically, precisely with measurement cursors (resolution 10 khz sample rate). Using the pretrigger, the previous history of an event can be recorded. This is helpful with sporadically occurring errors, for example.

This passes on the status changes through an active messaging mechanism to modules intended, such as machine visualization. Secure remote servicing The transmission protocols designed for secure Internet connection permit unlimited remote servicing of the system over the World Wide Web and simple access to variables and I/O signals. With the use of standardized security protocols (e.g. SSL, etc.), logging in to the system as well as transmitting data are protected against unauthorized access. 16 Productive and open. Tools and add-ons Preconfigured, proven control and regulation modules are made available for the most varied of functions. In addition, individual controller designs are developed in MATLAB / Simulink and transmitted with automatic code generation directly to the controller. Motion controller for more productivity The assortment of directly usable components ranges from simple movement controllers to 3D-CNC to the upright-shaft regulator for complex movement processes of many axes. Point-to-point and master-slave movements (cams / cam disc gearing / electronic gears) are parameterized in seconds with specification of the permissible jerk. The user can thus find an optimal balance between minimum movement time and maximum allowable mechanical load of the overall system. Combinable regulators Combined position, speed and pressure regulation for hydraulic and electrical drive systems is very easily achieved with a finished regulator. The comprehensively configurable and parameterizable module can be multiply combined. Monitor processes perfectly With an universally usable temperature regulator, it is possible to monitor and regulate temperature-dependent processes. Switching between actuator and regulator mode can be done as desired. Adaptive regulator processes also simplify parameter setting. 16
