4 INTRODUCTION: This manual contains installation data, specifications and Instructions for Continued Airworthiness for the DAC International Model GDC55 ARINC Data Converter, Part Number ( ). DESCRIPTION: The with software version 0010 is designed to accept low speed ARINC 49 data from a Garmin GPS 500W and output converted data, at low speed, to a Honeywell HG1095AC04 Laser Ref (IRU). The GDC55 features two open/gnd inputs which can activate the output of either a BCD LAT/LON ARINC data set, or a BCD heading ARINC data set (depending on which input discrete is grounded) with the BCD data being derived from BNR data received on other labels. No converted BCD data is output unless commanded by one of the input discretes. The input/output labels are listed in Appendix A. 7 OPERATION: Converter Input The GDC55 receives LAT/LON and heading data labels (310/311, 30, and others) from a concentrated ARINC 49 data bus. See Appendix A for bit-mapped descriptions of labels 310, 311, & 30. Converter Output The GDC55 converts binary data from labels 310/311 and 30 to BCD format (output labels 041/04 and 043) and transmits the converted labels, as listed in Appendix A, at the low speed rate of 1.5 kbaud when commanded by a discrete input. Discretes must remain grounded for at least 00ms for a ground to be detected. When the TRIG_POS ground is detected, the 041/04 labels are output for 1 seconds at the rate of 500ms. When the TRIG_HDG ground is detected, the 043 label is output for 1 seconds at the rate of 00ms. Each input discrete must open to re-arm the update trigger. Discretes must remain open for at least 00ms for an open to be detected. If the source labels 310 or 311 are NCD, Fail, or timeout, the GDC55 sets the SSM for the corresponding LAT/LON output (labels 041/04) to NCD. If the source label 30 is NCD, Fail, or timeout, the GDC55 will not send label 043. All output data is based on input data which is current upon detection of the corresponding input discrete. If any data changes after an input discrete is detected, the corresponding output data will not be updated. The input discretes are processed independently so there are no restrictions on activation timing between the two discrete inputs. In addition to processing the discretes, certain input labels are also repeated to the output. These labels are sent as they are received, plus a small delay for processing. This delay can vary based on the task at hand when the data is received, but will not be greater than 50ms. See Appendix A for a list of repeated labels. The only change of data during the repeat process is that the ARINC transmitter hardware will set TX parity to odd regardless of the input parity bit status. Page 7 of 18

8 REMOVAL AND REPLACEMENT Removal 1. Open the circuit breaker powering the GDC55.. Remove the connector by disengaging the slide latch then pulling the connector free. 3. Remove four (4) screws securing the unit to the airframe. Replacement 1. Open the circuit breaker powering the GDC55.. Attach the unit to the airframe with four (4) screws. 3. Seat the connector, engage the slide to secure. 4. Close circuit breaker. 5. Perform operational test of the GDC55 as prescribed in the aircraft maintenance manual. EQUIPMENT CHECKOUT The GDC55 provides ARINC 49 data conversion. There are no operator controls associated with the GDC55 unit. The concentrated bus that forms the input for the GDC55 must be operational in order to perform this functional checkout. 1. Apply power to the concentrated bus data source system.. Perform the functional test of those systems receiving GDC55 output data according to existing, approved maintenance data. Page 8 of 18

9 CONTINUED AIRWORTHINESS: This section provides data intended to assist the installer with establishing Instructions for Continued Airworthiness as required by FARs 3.159, 5.159, and Maintenance Manual information for the GDC55, which includes system description, removal instructions, installation instructions and functional testing, is contained in DAC International Installation Manual, (this document).. NOTE : Do not use pins labeled Reserved. These are for factory test and In-Circuit-Programming. NOTE 3: These inputs are designed for a switch closure to J1-11, no external loads are required.
