3 1. OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS The LRN-500, has no operating instructions. As an electrical format converter only and transparent to the systems interconnected. The operating instructions for the system providing the digital input will need to be followed. 2. EQUIPMENT LIMITATIONS The LRN-500 Adapter is limited to only being a converter of the ARINC 429 output from the Long Range Navigation Computer to a analog output format. With the exception of limiting the analog output of the vertical information to half of the input digital range. The LRN-500 adapter, as a component of the Long Range Navigation Computer is limited by the outputs and inputs of such and the specifications listed herein. The design of the LRN-500 is such as to cause minimal degradation of the input signal and to convert the data in the fastest and most accurate means possible. Document # , Dated 02/27/98 1

4 3. INSTALLATION PROCEDURES 1. Introduction This section contains information relative to the installation of the, LRN-500 Adapter, to assure satisfactory performance of the unit. (See Sections "6" and "7" for detailed mechanical and wiring diagrams.) 2. Unpacking And Inspecting Equipment After unpacking the unit, make a visual inspection of the unit for evidence of damage incurred during shipment. If claim for damage is to be made, save the shipping container to substantiate the claim. 3. Pre Installation Check Perform a continuity and power check on the wiring harness before connecting equipment. 4. Power Requirements The LRN-500 operates from a standard 27.5 Volt DC aircraft power source, Provide circuit protection with an in line 1 AMP breaker on the 27.5 VDC. 5. Post Installation Check There is no in-aircraft adjustment required for the LRN-500. All alignment and adjustment procedures are accomplished during bench maintenance. 6. Preflight Check Follow the manufactures check out procedures of the on board LRN system, and HSI to determine indications being driven by the LRN-500 are accurate. Document # , Dated 02/27/98 2

5 4. INSTALLATION MECHANICAL DIAGRAMS The LRN-500 is designed for flat mounting anywhere on board the aircraft, pressurized or unpressurized compartments. The unit has four (4) mounting holes for number (8) size screws. (NOTE: Screws and other miscellaneous mounting hardware are NOT included with the LRN-500. 12 9. TEST AND ALIGNMENT Equipment Required 1. ARINC 429 Transmitter (Gp-429 PC Interface) /2 Digit Volt Meter 3. 28Vdc Power Source 4. ARINC 429/568 Receiver (Gp-429 PC Interface and Skylight P/N , Bus merger) 5. Interconnect Cable Bench Test And Alignment Procedures Connect unit to the bench and provide required interconnect. Apply power and proceed with the following. 1. Power Supply. Verify the presence of the following voltages. TP1 +15VDC +/-.2 TP2-15VDC +/-.2 TP3 +12VDC +/-.2 TP4 + 5VDC +/ Configure the transmitter Clock 100kHz. Hi Speed Labels mS, Data DDM, SSM mS, Data DDM, SSM mS Data 0 NM, SSM 0 (GP-429 restore HONEY.CNF set Clock Rate to 100,000Hz.) Verify the following analog, digital and discrete outputs. Lateral a. Labels 171, 173 set the data, slew rate and SSM to 0. Label 201 set the data and slew rate to 0. Set the SSM to 3. Verify the following. Lateral a. Measure voltage between Pins 5 LAT Out and 6 Common for a reading of 0.000VDC +/ VDC. b. Verify LAT Flag Voltage Pin 11 to GND, less than.1vdc. c. Verify LAT Valid Pin 10 to GND, less than.1vdc. Vertical a. Measure voltage between Pins 7 VERT Out and 8 Common for a reading of 0.000VDC +/ VDC. b. Verify VERT Flag Voltage at Pin 13 to GND, less than.1vdc. c.
