LV: Four floated power supplies (PS) are needed to power the FE-electronics of one petal: three PS to power the analogue part and one PS to power the control ring. Due to the relatively large and different resisitivity of the power lines of each power group common ground power supplies can not be used. TEC and TOB plan to use switching power supplies recuperated from DELPHI to power the analogue part, see the drawing Block schema of the LV-PS. Each of the power supplies will be equipped with monitor-and interlock systems to assure safe operating of the petal electronics. Following parameters will be controlled: voltage and currents of each of the two lines temperature of the linear regulators inside the PS enclosure up to 4 external temperatures sensors ( 0kOhm thermistors) up to 4 external relative humidity sensors (HMX000) external off/on input The setting of the thresholds of the parameters will be available manually from the front panel. All monitored parameters are available to the external DAQ system using analogue, galvanically isolated outputs for all of the measured parameters. The communication with the PC can be therefore realized using simple DAQ cards/systems. In TEC all detector modules are equipped with three thermistors to measure the temperature of the Si-wafers. Two of the thermistors are connected in parallel (to measure the temperature of both wafers) and will be readout via the ICB by the DCU located on the FE-Hybrid. The third one is connected to the ICB. On the ICB thermistors of two different modules are connected in parallel; two of these circuits are then hardwired to LV/HV connectors. For each power group there are therefore temperature channels available for external monitoring: one in the LV connector and the second in the HV connector. The allocation of the temperature sensors you will find in the Table Petal Services There are no humidity sensors in the petal structure. HV Power Supplies In contrast to the LV power supplies the HV - power units could have common ground, however such power supplies can decrease the S/N performance of the system depending on the environment and constellation in which they are used, length of the cable etc. To standardize the HV PS and to avoid potential problems with noise generated in ground loops I suggest we use floating HV-units. e.g. 8 channel modules from ISEG GmbH, which are relatively cheap.

2 In the table HV PS you will find a comparison of the main features and prices for HV-PS from CAEN and ISEG. In TEC the modules of each power group will be biased from two independent HV channels. On the ICB the backplanes of the detectors belonging to one power group are hardwired to 8 pins of the HV connector. The assignment of the modules / Pins / HV channels is illustrated in the Table Petal Services. It would be preferable to use a standardized PC controlled HV patch panel equipped with reed relays to distribute 6 individual HV channels to up to 8 Si-modules. Using such a patch panel and ISEG PS (resolution of Imon. 00pA)it would be possible to measure easily the I/V characteristics of single (double) Si modules at any stage of the petal assembly.
