It will accommodate the readout electronics on the backside as well. The housing consists of bottom-, sidewall- and top-flange, which are sealed with O-rings. The top-flange together with a special Wilsonflange are designed to accommodate the detector to the UCN beam pipe. A special ring made of Teflon insulates detector electrically from the beam pipe to reduce electromagnetic noise introduced by surrounding instrumentation like turbo-pumps and HF-generators. Internet: The top- and the Wilson-flange are designed to hold a thin entrance window and to seal the detector against the vacuum of the UCN beam pipe. The entrance window can be removed easily. The detector housing is designed to be operated with variable counting gas pressures between 0.1 bar and 1 bar absolute pressure, if the detector is connected to the evacuated UCN beam pipe.

Now the top-flange together with such an adapter-flange and the Wilson-flange are used to accommodate the detector to the UCN beam pipe. The adapter-flange can now be exchanged very easily to mount the detector to any UCN beam pipe with diameters up to 100 mm. Internet:
3 The CASCADE DAQBox central FPGA Slots for up to 4 sub-modules USB 2.0 interface CIPix interface with SCSI-3 connector Digital IO galvanically decoupled with Lemo connectors ADC module for pulse height analysis The CASCADE DAQBox is a standalone DAQ-system optimized for readout of one CIPix frontend ASIC and furthermore data-processing up to user-relevant level. For this purpose, it is equipped with an powerful Xilinx FPGA as parallel data processing unit and an high-speed USB 2.0 interface. Up to four sub-modules can be plugged into the DAQBox to realise any desired functionality. Sub-modules are available as CIPix interface, digital I/O, histograming memory or ADC. In dependency of the internal firmware in the FPGA e.g. data counters allow to effectively histogram and thus store detector data to a level, where exclusively user relevant information remains on the memory module. The memory could for example be configured to realise a multidimensional histogram containing a time of flight (TOF) spectrum for every single one of the 64 channels of a CIPix chip simultaneously. Finally, also raw list-mode data can be taken and read out as one possible configuration. The interface of the DAQBox to one CIPix ASB board is realized through one CBusNB sub-module. It provides a connector (SCSI- 3) on the front side of the DAQBox for highspeed (40MHz) and undistorted data transfer over long distance via fully differential signal lines (LVDS). 4 The ASIC Readout Boards AS20-1, AS20-3 and AS20B-1.1 AS20-1 AS20-3 AS20B-1.1 Schematic of the CIPix 1.1 The highly integrated multi-channel analogue front-end electronics is based upon a CMOS ASIC chip called CIPix 1.1. The board does come in three versions: A robust version AS20-3 with input protective circuitry in particular designed for gas detector applications. Noise may prove to be 50% higher. A low noise version AS20-1 where protective circuitry is removed in order to achieve the best possible noise performance. A robust version ASB with input protective circuitry (same as AS20-3) and differential interface (LVDS) for DigitalOut, which allows undistorted data transfer to any DAQ system over long distances. 5 CDT Detector Control Software Windows based software package CDT Detector Control allows stand alone operation of up to three CASCADE DAQBox systems from a PC or Laptop via USB 2.0. It supports easy configuration of a CASCADE detector system, starting and ending data acquisition as well as data download and event display. The program itself is held in the typical Windows-style. Various types of measurements (e.g. 2D-readout, TOF-spectra or pulse height spectra) can be configured individually in a self explanatory way. Software drivers allow integration of the DAQBox into already existing instrument control under Windows (NT/2000/XP). Support for high level programming under C++ is provided with the CASCADE Hardware-Library, which supplies routines for configuration and measurement of the DAQBox respective the CIPix readout board.
