1 Q0B Building Network Adapters BNA-C/CS/DN INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS WARNING This equipment generates, uses and can radiate radio frequency energy, and if not installed and used in accordance with the Instructions Manual, may cause interference with radio communication. It has been tested and found to comply with the limits for a Class A computing device pursuant to Subpart J of Part or FCC Rules, which are designed to provide reasonable protection against such interference when operated in a commercial environment. Any unauthorized modification of this equipment may result in the revocation of the owner s authority to continue its operation. Q0B0 BNA-CS. Provides two RS- DC coupled C-/S-Bus compatible communication channels for Excel Classic, FS90 and XL000 family devices in smoke control systems with up to. kbps. Q0B0 BNA-DN. Provides two RS- AC coupled Manchester encoded L/L Bus compatible communication channels and single RS- and 0/00BaseT interfaces. Additionally, each BNA is equipped with a RJ- 0/00BaseT connector, plus an RS- interface. The Honeywell GFD ground fault detection module provides ground fault detection (see Fig. ). WORKSTATION EBI WORKSTATION GENERAL The Q0B series Building Network Adapters (BNA) provide connection of a Honeywell controller communication bus to an industry standard 0/00BaseT Ethernet. The Building Network Adapter (BNA) delivers exceptional price/ performance to meet the requirements of both building owners and service providers. With its combination of scalable performance, density, and low per-port pricing, the BNA allows network-layer capabilities to be extended to a much wider range of network configurations and environments. High-performance network and services, including traffic management, are now available to additional locations throughout the network. The BNA uses the -connection to provide a seamless communication to the requesting device. Status information such as communication activity, field bus traffic communication, and system heartbeat of the BNA is indicated by LEDs on the front of the device. The BNA models provide an interface from various Honeywell controller buses that use RS- signals to a local area network using 0. Ethernet protocol. This allows data to be used by high-level Building Management Systems such as the Honeywell Enterprise Buildings Integrator (EBI). This Installation Instruction covers the following BNA devices: Q0B00 BNA-C. Provides a single RS- DC coupled C-Bus-compatible communication channel for Excel 000 family devices with up to. kbps. BEFORE INSTALLATION Perform the following steps prior to installing the BNA device:. Verify that the product has been received without damage.. Verify that the correct BNA device has been delivered.. Check the package contents. The following items are included in each product package: Building Network Adapter device. Building Network Adapter Installation Instructions. Package of installation materials as follows: one -pole Phoenix power connector, one or two Phoenix controller bus channel connectors, four optional wall mounting clips, four small inserts and four screws.. Read the Connections section carefully prior to connecting power, ground and data interface cables to the BNA.. Refer to the installation instructions for each component connected to the BNA: Literature no. 9-, Excel 00, 00, 00 Series Controller Subpanel Installation Instructions. Literature no. 9-, Excel 00/00 Control System Installation Instructions. Literature no. 9-0, EBI Interface Installation Instructions. WIRING CAUTION Shock Hazard. Removal of the BNA cover can result in electrical shock. Do not remove cover. There are no user serviceable parts inside. Location and Mounting The BNA device can be mounted in several ways; as a single device, up to three stacked devices, or wall/cabinet mounted. Stacking of BNA devices is not recommended for smoke control applications. Single Device The following illustration shows the single BNA device operating position; for example, on a desk (see Fig ). Because of stability issues, it is recommended not to stack more than three devices (see Fig ). Wall Mounting It is also possible to mount the BNA device to a wall. The following sequence describes how the device should be prepared prior to mounting it on a wall (see Fig ). There are cooling slots on the top and bottom of the BNA housing. Place the BNA-adapter with the topside down on the desk. 0 ACT 00 Ch Ch BNA - CS Reset Power Boot NML Ch Ch 0 ACT 00 Remove the four feet from the bottom of the BNA by pushing horizontally away from the housing with a flat screwdriver. 0 ACT 00 Ch Ch BNA - CS Push the four inserts (included) fully and horizontally into the housing. This method of mounting is recommended for smoke control applications. A supply pack with installation material containing the required connectors for power and the field bus are shipped with the device. CABLES AND CONNECTORS DB9F Null m Connector Fig. illustrates a serial connector for the field bus. Fig. shows how to configure a Null m Cable DB9F. Power Connection The BNA device requires a UL listed external power supply with the following specifications: Vac, 0 Hz to 0 Hz, or Vdc. Typical power supplies include: DC Power Supply: Jameco l No. DDU000, Vdc, 0.00 ma output, wall mounted power cube. AC Power Supply: 0 Vac/0 to 0 Hz input, Vac output,0 series, Power consumption of the BNA device is to VA. For the power connection, the -pole Phoenix connector is required (included). Wire the power cable as follows:. Cut off the original connector at the end of the cable.. Strip the two power cable ends and insert each cable end into the openings of the -pole Phoenix connectors that are marked for power.. Fasten them with a screwdriver.. 6 Q0B BUILDING NETWORK ADAPTERS BNA-C/CS/DN Ethernet Connection See Fig. for BNA Ethernet connection. 0/00BaseT networks are physically laid out in a star topology, where each piece of equipment on the network is connected to a central hub. The wiring is connected to devices using a plug that resembles a phone jack called RJ-. See Table for RJ- signals. Table. RJ- Signals. -PIN MODULAR CONNECTOR RJ- Fig.. BNA Ethernet connector. M99 RJ- Connector The BNA provides a standard RJ- connector for 0/00BaseT Ethernet connection. This section describes the pin layout for the RJ- connector. Most Ethernet local area networks use twisted pair wiring. 7 Connect BNA to HUB To connect a BNA device to a via an Ethernet Hub, the required cable should be configured as shown in Fig. 0. Connect BNA to Workstation When a BNA needs a direct connection to a workstation without using an Ethernet Hub, a crossover cable is required. Fig. shows how the different signals should be connected. Tx + Tx - Rx + Rx - M99 Tx + Tx - Rx + RESET Hardware reset button. Located directly behind the small hole in the front panel. To reach this button, a pointed object like a sharp pen or an unfolded paper clip is necessary. Pressing this button resets the BNA device immediately. This operation is similar to applying power to the BNA device. The sequence of operations following the RESET is similar to Power on BNA device. POWER Power indicator. This LED lights up when power is connected to the BNA device. HEARTBEAT System heartbeat display consists of two LEDs, one Red and one Green. During BNA system startup when BIOS is running, both LEDs flash continuously. When BNA bootloader starts to run, the Red LED starts to flash. When the application firmware begins to run, the Green LED starts flashing. CH Bus Channel activity display. This display contains two green LEDs; one showing the BNA receive activity (Rx), and the other showing the BNA transmit activity (Tx). Rx - Rx - Ch indication is only available on two channel devices. It is not available on the BNA-C. Fig.. Crossover pinning for BNA to workstation, direct connections. COMMISSIONING Finish the installation by commissioning the BNA in accordance with literature no. -99, Q0B Building Network Adapter BNA-C/CS/DN Checkout & Test. M99 CH Bus Channel activity display. This display contains two green LEDs; one showing the BNA receive activity (Rx), and the other showing the BNA transmit activity (Tx). MODE switch button. This button is used to change the operating modes. Local Area Network () activity display. Shows the actual traffic status using three LEDs: 0LNK. Ethernet speed of 0 mbps indicator (Green). If this LED is lit, then the Ethernet link is operating at 0 mbps. 00LNK. Ethernet speed of 00 mbps indicator (Green). If this LED is lit, then the Ethernet link is operating at 00 mbps. Activity. Link activity indicator (Green) will blink if there is any activity (transmission/reception) on the. 9-0

Field Bus wiring is described in the Field Bus Connection (Ch/Ch) section. The Ch field bus connector is only available on twochannel devices. It is not available on the BNA-C. 9 CH/CH BUS TERMINATION SWITCHES These switches are used to select field bus termination and biasing. For a detailed description of the bus termination switch positions, refer to the Bus Termination Switch section of literature no. -99, Q0B Building Network Adapter BNA-C/CS/DN Checkout & Test. AC/DC IN V 0/00 normal The Bus Termination Switch option near the Ch field bus connector is only available on BNA-CS two-channel devices. It is not available on the BNA-C. Ch A(+) B(-) 0 9 normal Ch A(+) B(-) M 0 CH -pin connector for field bus channel connection, electrically isolated, meets EMC and FCC requirements. Field Bus wiring is described in the Field Bus Connection (Ch/Ch) section. AC/DC IN V Power connector for Vac (0 Hz to 0Hz) or Vdc power supplies and chassis ground. An external power supply is required. See the Power Connection section of this document for details. RS- 9-pin SUB-D male RS- connector, electrically isolated, PC pin compatible, protected against spikes. This interface is used for initial device setup and requires a standard Null- m cable when interfacing to a PC. 0/00BASET 0/00BaseT RJ- Ethernet -connector, meets the requirements of ANSI/TIA/EIA Category, for unshielded twisted pair connections. MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES The system must be maintained in accordance with the system documentation and procedures and practices contained in applicable NFPA and UL standards. The Q0B BNA has no user replaceable fuses.
