1 SHAILRON Technology SOLAR MONITORING SYSTEM In the following sections the individual system components are further described. EKO s solar monitoring system is configured with high accurate sensors and durable components to guarantee reliable unattended operation at any remote place on earth. The solar monitoring systems can be freely configured meeting all customer demands to measure Global, Direct, Diffuse and other meteorological parameters (e.g. Wind speed, Wind direction, Relative humidity, Atmospheric pressure, Temperature and Precipitation). The basic system contains the STR 21G or 22G Sun tracker, Shading assembly, Radiometer Mounts and large size 1m or 1,6m tripod. Solar radiation sensors are available with different precision meeting ISO Secondary Standard, First Class and Second Class specifications. The multi channel data-acquisition system offers all flexibility to connect the analogue and digital sensors that are part of the system. Our standard measurement routine will be preprogrammed and can be adapted according to the customer needs. Since the monitoring system contains sensors with unique serial numbers and specific calibration figures, the whole system will be pre configured and pre-set. Cables are connected to the data logger accommodated in a IP-65 enclosure which is mounted to the pole of the Sun Tracker tripod. Depending on your on site infrastructure the data interface to PC can be based on a standard RS-232 interface or expanded with modules providing Ethernet, GSM or GPRS to access your data and control the data-logger at remote locations. If mains power is not available on site or power disruptions regularly occur the special low power 24V version solar monitoring system with solar power system with back up battery offers a reliable solution for continuous measurements. In case the battery system gets exhausted the electronic system will shut down until the power recovers and will automatically activate the system. The total power consumption is less than 20W and max. 50W when heaters and ventilators are activated. Page 1/9

8 8. Installation The Data-acquisition system is pre-wired and pre configured on delivery. For transport and handling reasons all mechanical components need to be assembled on site. A step by step description is given in the manual for easy set up. Items to be assembled on site: 1. Tripod floor stand 2. Sun-tracker 3. Shading assembly 4. Sensors 5. Data-acquisition system 6. Maintenance The Solar Monitoring System is essentially maintenance free however care must be taken of the radiation sensors (Soiling, desiccant) and horizontal position of the tracker is case the tracker is not mounted on a solid surface (e.g. Sand, Ice). Once installed all radiation sensors periodically check if the desiccant need to be exchanged. Usually errors in functionality occur as unreasonably large or small values are measured. As a general rule, this means that a critical review of the measured data is the best form of maintenance. At regular intervals the quality of the cables can be checked. Besides check the horizontal position of the tracker using the spirit level. Make sure that the solar sensor(s) are properly aligned to the sun by checking the sun spot on the sensor alignment sights. If the Sun Tracker Sun Sensor or radiation sensor dome or window is dirty the quality of the measurement might be affected. Spare parts are available (cables, drying cartridge, silica gel, pyranometer domes) on request. For continuity of your measurement series redundant sensors can be added as a spare part to your Solar Monitoring System. 10. Re-calibration All radiation sensors are traceable to the WRR maintained at the PMOD in Davos (Switzerland). On delivery the radiation sensors will be accurately calibrated at the EKO factory. It is recommended to re-calibrate all sensors on a 2 yearly interval.
