3 3/14 IRMA MATRIX Data Sheet 1 Brief description The IRMA MATRIX sensor is a product developed by iris-gmbh for the purpose of passenger counting. The measuring principle is based on a sensor matrix of 500 pixels enabling the sensor to measure the distance from the object and to record it in three dimensions. This is made possible using of the latest Time of Flight (TOF) technology. The TOF method uses the phase difference between the signals emitted by the sensor and the received light signals, the distance from the object being calculated from the signal travel time. This allows the detection of the presence and movement of persons and objects in the sensor s field of view with a high degree of accuracy, enabling reliable counting with a high raw data accuracy. The IRMA MATRIX sensor meets even the most stringent demands of passenger counting while providing the highest degree of accuracy per stop ("stop accuracy"). This enables new applications in public transport such as real-time determination of the passenger load. The high degree of sensor integration minimises the installation work required: The sensor is connected directly to the Ethernet or CAN on board network and is operative without further system components. Additional Interfaces see section 5.3, Page 14. Only one sensor per standard vehicle door is sufficient to provide the required count accuracy. The 3DIS technology (3D image streaming) further simplifies the verification of the counting process and results. The camera images are transmitted in real time and thus allow a subsequent evaluation and/or validation without the necessity of persons counting the passengers in the vehicle. The newly designed scon connector and the comfortable configuration round off this positive impression. As the downward compatibility with the predecessor model is ensured, different firmware releases in different deliveries do not bring about any restrictions. If a uniform release date must be ensured for an order comprising several deliveries, this must be indicated in the purchase order.

In case of sensor operation via the CAN interface, power supply and data traffic are effected simultaneously via the CAN cable of the scon connector (see (1), (2), (3) in Fig. 5). In case of sensor operation via the Ethernet interface, the power supply is effected via the open end of the POWER cable (see (4) in Fig. 5) or via the CAN cable (see (3) in Fig. 5).

9 9/14 IRMA MATRIX Data Sheet 4 Communication architecture The communication with the sensor uses the UIP 2.0 (UIP = Universal IRMA Protocol) communication protocol. In order to simplify sensor integration, a specific installation tool Application Programming Interface (API) is available. The API allows a high-level access to the sensor, its data and configuration. This reduces the programming work to a minimum. The orders to be used are independent of the transmission medium. iris-gmbh makes available completely compiled libraries for all current operating system derivatives (Linux, Windows [also embedded variants], Mac OS X).
