Check the air filter is clean. Before storing the equipment Wipe exterior surfaces with a dry, soft cloth to remove dust and dirt. Do not use solvents to clean plastic surfaces. Yearly Calibrate the Bantam Plus Bantam Plus Getting Started Guide 45
46 8.3 Service Service The Bantam Plus equipment is designed for testing meters and used as part of your organization's quality control system. The procedure below outlines the limited parts that are customer replaceable. Over extended use, the current carrying socket jaws may foul with contaminates such as oil or grease and no longer produce the contact necessary to operate to specification. The following procedure describes how to periodically clean or replace these jaws. Remove the five Torx screws to expose the socket assembly Step 1. Ensure the Bantam Plus is switched off and isolated from line voltage. Step 2. Remove the five Torx drive screws from the socket cover. Step 3. Remove the socket cover to expose the socket assembly. Step 4. Note that each current conductor has a replaceable liner. Clean each liner using compressed air being careful that all loose debris is removed. Should oil or grease be present, remove the liner from the Bantam Plus before using oil based solvent for cleaning Bantam Plus Getting Started Guide 46
47 Step 5. If necessary liners can be replaced using of RB-SMK Socket Maintenance Kit available from Radian Research. Step 6. Before replacing the socket assembly cover, ensure that the socket assembly dividers found on the base of the socket assembly cover sit either side the voltage conductors. Failure to do so could result in bending the voltage conductors preventing a meter insertion. Replace the socket assembly cover and retighten the five Torx screws. Step 7. Perform a Standards Compare to validate the performance using Standards Compare information found in section 6.1 and Removable socket liners Figure 19 Removable Socket Liners! WARNING The RB-2X Bantam Plus Portable Test System produces high voltages and is serviceable only by qualified personnel. Attempts to service the equipment by unqualified personnel can result in personnel injury Warranty Service warrants that each product is free from defects in material and workmanship. Include in the shipment a detailed description of the problem and the events that led up to the development of the problem. will invoice return shipping costs to the customer Standards Compare and use of the RB-SCA Option Standards Compare is a function that enables the internal Bantam Plus Reference Standard to be compared periodically with an external Reference Standard. The process is defined as a Standards Compare. The Bantam Plus is supplied with an automated test sequence for testing the internal reference against an external reference. It is recommended that the accuracy of external reference standard is at least four times better than the accuracy of the Bantam Plus. For guidance use an RD-23 (0.01%) to perform Standards Compare. However, a recently calibrated RD- 20 or RD-21 may also be suitable. Connecting the RB-SCA to the Bantam Plus. Insert the RB-SCA into the Bantam Plus meter test socket as shown in the picture below. Ensure the RB-SCA cables are oriented to the rear of the Bantam Plus. Each current cable is color coded in pairs and terminated with a Red or Black 6mm locking banana plug. Connect each pair to the external Reference standard paying attention to the phase orientation. Connect the current cables marked with the Red Bantam Plus Getting Started Guide 49
50 band to the RD Phase A Input, connect the Yellow band cables to the B phase and the Blue band cables to the C phase inputs on the RD. The red and black 4mm banana plugs to the RD-2X Potential inputs. Connect a BNC cable between the Bantam Plus Optics Port 3 and the RD-2X Port 2. Finally connect Line Voltage to the RD-2X AUX Input to power the RD standard. Standards Compare To configure the Bantam Plus for Standards Compare go to the Main Menu and select the Utilities Icon. Within the Utilities screen select the Standards Compare icon and select Run Standards Compare The Bantam Plus is supplied with a default Standards Compare test sequence. Note: the default test sequence is developed for a RB-20 (0.04%) Bantam Plus. Before running a Standards Compare with RB-21 (0.02%) Bantam Plus the test sequence must first be edited to change the test tolerance upper and lower limits to %/- 0.02%. To do this select Utilities and select Edit Standards Compare Running a Standards Compare Enter the external RD serial number into the Ext. Standard SN field. Select Ext. Standard: to 1 Phase. Select Start to begin the standards compare. When the test sequence is complete select Save to save the test results. To view the test results select View Standards Compare Results icon and load the appropriate results that are date and time stamped for convenience Bantam Plus Getting Started Guide 50
