3 EDEX Introduction PC (Personal Computer) of ELMA (Electricity Meter Test Equipment) is controlling all devices and units in test system via communication COM ports provided by internal communication cards or external communication converters. 4 Communication Cards Installation CCC 2010 Installation ELMA PC First important thing is setting of jumpers on the card. Due to the fact that you will use our card, which was set prior first use, you just need to check this setting. Jumpers are red and marked by yellow in the picture below. Both have to be switched into RS-422 mode, that means ON for SW1 and ON for SW2. 4 ELMAPC-IM30-EN

5 EDEX When this is set as intended, you can insert this card into the motherboard. After insertion, turn on the PC and open Computer Management. You will see new devices in Computer Management window. ELMAPC-IM30-EN 5

6 ELMA PC For the most recent drivers of this card follow the link: Download the driver for Windows 7. Unzip the file into new directory. Then in Computer Management window make a right click on Other PCI Bridge Device and click on Update Driver Software 6 ELMAPC-IM30-EN

7 EDEX Choose Browse my computer for driver software and browse for the directory you used for unzipping downloaded driver. Choose subdirectory according to your Windows type, either 32bit or 64bit Then Press Install. ELMAPC-IM30-EN 7

8 ELMA PC Continue with installing next driver, so click on Install. Close the last window. 8 ELMAPC-IM30-EN

9 EDEX Afterwards choose Serial Port device from Other devices and make right click on it. From menu pick Update Driver Software. Then click on Browse my computer for driver software. Browse for the same directory like previously. ELMAPC-IM30-EN 9

10 ELMA PC And install the driver. Repeat steps necessary to install also another Serial Port device from Computer Management window. When finished, Windows will have two new active COM ports. 10 ELMAPC-IM30-EN

11 EDEX Now you need to set COM port numbers. Make a right mouse click on first Communication Port (COMx). Select Properties. Go to Settings Tab where two important parameters (highlighted) have to be changed: Set Hardware Configuration of both ports to RS422/485. Set COM Port Number of first port to COM3 and second port to COM4. It is recommended to mark COM ports on the rear side of the PC which will help to recognize them during process of connecting cables from ELMA system to PC. ELMAPC-IM30-EN 11

12 CCC 2020 Installation ELMA PC Installation of communication card ST LAB Manhattan PCI card which is typically used as CCC 2020: For the latest driver (Windows 7 compatible) go to vendor s web page Download Windows 7 driver and Quick Install Guide. Unzip the file into new folder. For the installation procedure, refer to downloaded Quick Install Guide. This communication card doesn t require any jumper setting to be made before insertion into PC. These two new RS232 ports have to be also changed regarding their port numbers. Set the first COM port to COM5 and the second to COM6 (in Computer Management window). It is recommended to mark COM ports on the rear side of the PC which will help to recognize them during process of connecting cables from ELMA system to PC. 12 ELMAPC-IM30-EN

13 EDEX Troubleshoot Exchanging the HDD in Raid Important: this process always involves some risk of data loss that is why data backup, especially ELMA folder, is strongly recommended. Detecting the faulty HDD: - Your scenario shows that faulty is Port 1 = SATA1 All SATA ports on motherboard are marked. So be careful which SATA data cable you unplug! ELMAPC-IM30-EN 13

14 ELMA PC Follow the procedure below: 1. Backup your ELMA Directory. Most suitable is to any USB flash drive; do not use HDD in PC. 2. Turn off the computer and unplug its power cord 3. Open the PC 4. Localize faulty HDD drive 5. Disconnected this faulty HDD and remove it (refer to the pictures on previous page) 14 ELMAPC-IM30-EN

15 EDEX Holder screw 6. Take new HDD with the same (or bigger) capacity and exchange all four holder screws from faulty HDD 7. Connect new HDD to the PC, insert it to the HDD slot 8. Plug power cord to the PC and turn it on ELMAPC-IM30-EN 15

16 ELMA PC 9. After reboot you will see this screen 10. Press Ctrl + I (while you see the screen below) to enter Configuration utility. There you will see the new destination HDD which will be synchronized with original HDD 11. In this utility, press ENTER, then press ESC 16 ELMAPC-IM30-EN

17 EDEX 12. Press Y 13. Wait for Windows to be loaded it will take some time (3-5 min) 14. From now on, you can use the computer as usual Rebuilding off HDD is running in background and will take from four to five hours and it can be interrupted by turning of the PC. 15. Rebuild in progress is visible after pc reboot 16. When the rebuilding is completed the Status: Rebuild will change to Normal 17. Then the process is completed ELMAPC-IM30-EN 17
