Dallas DS18S20 1-Wire TM digital temperature sensors used for routine temperature monitoring. 6

Control HTE1 to 18 ± 1.5C Control HTE2 to 15 ± 0.2C Control HTE3 to 17 ± 0.01C Heat Pump provided. Heat exchanger and chiller Closed loop heater controlled by Lakeshore temperature controller. 7

Located in auxiliary room AC power control. DC power control. Ethernet controlled AC power switching provided in control rack (Pulizzi). Solid state relays used in electronics assemblies to control local DC power using control I/O. 8

9 Requirement UPS Power Control & Conditioning Capability Conversion UPS and local UPS units located in detector and control racks. Transient protection and filtering AC power filters, transient, and overcurrent protection devices located in control rack 9

10 Requirements Provide remote controlled positioning of calibration fibers in calibration box for source selection. Remote controlled positioning of optics and related hardware in Front End Assembly. Motion Control Capability Calibration fibers select source under Local Control Unit step motor control using IMS Mforce step motor controller/drivers. Interfaced by RS- 485, via Ethernet. Mforce step motor controllers, located in Front End electronics assembly used for controlling and driving step motors on optics positioning mechanisms. Position feedback using rotary encoders. End of travel or home switches provided, as required. 10

Two cal. fibers select source under Local Control Unit step motor control. Fiber illuminator for use with external light source. Provided in calibration box assembly. Focal plane illuminator. Rack mounted computers provided in control rack: Devices, User, and Spare. Gig-E network switches in racks. Ethernet switch module in HCFA. Used for interfacing to COTS control hardware. KVM support for remote CPU interface. KVM switch and Ethernet interface provided in control rack. 13

Science detector located in cryostat on spectrograph Shutter in fiber Scrambler Exposure meter in vacuum system Front End electrical box on telescope houses step motor drivers, piezoelectric control, guide detector electronics, and support functions Front End containing optics and associated mechanisms, including piezoelectric tip/tilt stage 15

19 Temperature Control & Monitoring Sensors Dallas DS18S20 precision 1-Wire digital interface for general purpose temperature readout. Used in racks and Front End. CCD temperature sensor, TBD, used for CCD temperature readout RTD sensors used for monitoring critical environment temperatures. Read out using Lakeshore Model 218 temperature meter Detector cold biased using controlled LN2 to CFC and servo controlled up to operational temperature using Lakeshore controller and heater resistors. HTE1 and HTE2 temperatures controlled using commercial air coolers. Spectrograph inner thermal environment (HTE3) actively heated to operating temperature. Controller: Lakeshore. 19
