Set Up Your Workplace Find a space where you can work on the organ. You ll need space for the organ, plus working space (about 2 to 3 times the size of the box). It should be free of clutter, so screws and other parts you ll be removing from the organ won t get mixed up or lost. Remove the dispenser of packaging tape, the small plastic bag, and the shipping label from the box. We ll use the label and the tape at the end of this procedure, so set them aside. We ll use the small plastic bag to store screws until you re ready to install the Page 2 Revised June, 2011

3 repaired board later on. Remove the Phillips head screwdriver from the box (if you ordered one) or get your own #2 Phillips head screwdriver. Remove the Top of the Organ On the back side of the organ, there are two screws above the connector plate holding it in place. Remove those screws and put them in the bag. Figure 2. Rear connector plate Turn the organ upside-down. There are twelve screws around the edges of the organ holding the bottom plate to the main case. Remove the screws place them in the plastic bag. There are five larger screws holding the keyboard in place. Remove those as well and place them in the plastic bag. Figure 3. Bottom of organ Carefully flip the organ right-side up while keeping the front of the organ down. This prevents the keyboard from moving around inside too much. Carefully lift the top case off of the bottom plate, while stuffing the power cord through the hole in the case. Set the top case out of the way for now, leaving the bottom plate on the work surface. Unplug the Keyboard There is a large bundle of wires coming from the keyboard that plug into the large printed circuit board underneath using five white nylon connectors. 4 these connectors to allow the keyboard to be removed. Sometimes starting on one end of the connector helps. Never pull on the wires. Remove the Keyboard Figure 4. Inside of organ with cover removed To gain access to the KLM-244 board underneath the keyboard, carefully remove the keyboard and set it aside with the top case. Remove the Shield The KLM-244 board is located underneath the keyboard, protected by a foil-backed cardboard shield. Remove the shield by removing the four screws and their metal washers and placing them in the plastic bag. Unplug the Board Figure 5. KLM-244 shield The KLM-244 board has four more white nylon connectors which need to be unplugged. Refer to the figure below. Carefully lift on each white plastic connector until it comes free from the mating part on the board. Sometimes starting on one end of the connector helps. 5 Figure 6. Connectors on the KLM-244 Remove the Board The KLM-244 board is fastened to the bottom of the organ case by eight screws and clear plastic washers. Remove the screws and the clear plastic washers and place them in the plastic bag. Figure 7. KLM-244 mounting screws Locate the large antistatic bag and place it on the work surface. Carefully lift the board out of the organ while keeping the cables from snagging. When the board is free, place it on the antistatic bag as shown in Figure Page 5 Revised June, 2011

6 Figure 8. KLM-244 board on antistatic bag Ship the Board We re now ready to pack up the KLM-244 board for shipping. Prepare the Box Remove any items from the box except the packing peanuts. Remove approximately half of the packing peanuts and temporarily store them in a container. Prepare the Board Carefully slide the board into the antistatic bag. Use the antistatic warning sticker to close the bag. Place the bagged board face-down into the layer of packing peanuts in the box. Place the rest of the packing peanuts on top of the board. Seal the Box Close the box. If it is too tight to close, remove enough of the packing peanuts to allow the box to close. Don t remove too many packing peanuts or the board will move around inside the box if you shake it. Use the provided packaging tape dispenser and seal the box completely. It is better to overdo this part than to underdo. Label and Ship the Box Inside the United States: The provided shipping label is prepaid. Peel the backing from the label and stick it over the existing shipping label on the box. Your United States Postal Service carrier can pick it up, or you may carry it to the nearest post office Page 6 Revised June, 2011

7 Outside the United States: You are responsible for shipping charges to and from Parastream Technologies. In addition to providing insured shipping and customs forms for this box, you will need to provide a prepaid shipping label and customs forms for the box coming from Parastream Technologies with your repaired board.
