1 ML5720A Series Electric Linear Valve Actuators Non-Spring Return APPLICATION The ML5720A series actuators operate standard ASI Systems valves in heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) applications. The ML5720A series actuators modulating operated for: 2-way or 3-way valve Chilled water, hot water or steam valve FEATURES Easy and quick installation No separate linkage required No adjustments required Accurate valve positioning Corrosion resistant design GENERAL The ML5720A series Electric Linear Valve Actuators are modulating control actuators used with controllers that provide an analog output of 0 to 10 Vdc or 2 to 10 Vdc (4 to 20 ma). The direction of movement is reversible by means of DIP switch can be used to reverse the direction of action. 3 MOUNTING When Installing this Product 1. Read instructions carefully. Failure to follow them could damage the product or cause a hazardous condition. 2. Check ratings and description given in the specifications to make sure the product is suitable for your application. 3. Installer must be a trained, experienced service technician. 4. Install the actuator in a location that allows enough clearance for mounting accessories and for servicing. 5. The actuators must be electrically connected in accordance with local regulations and the connection diagram. 6. Safety regulation and restrictions designed to ensure the safety of people and property must be observed. 7. After installation is complete, check out product operation as provided in these instructions. CAUTION: Can damage actuator due to condensation or a valve gland leak. Install the actuator in a position above horizontal. 85º 85º The Position when Install the Actuator Fig CAUTION: Electrical Shock or Equipment Damage Hazard. Can shock individuals or short equipment circuitry. 1.1 Disconnect power supply before installation. Mounting 1. The neck of the valve must be cleaned before the linear actuator is fitted to it. 2. Ensure the bracket is pushed down (1.1) and firmly contact with the neck of the valve, and secured by tightening the two fixing nuts (1.2) with a open-jaw or ring spanner. 3. Push down the manual-operating knob to move the actuator spindle to the position of the valve stem (2.1); then push in the angle-piece to help it latches into the valve stem correctly (2.2). 4. Slowly turn the manual operating knob back forward till it point to the (Auto) sign of the cover and was push back to the original position by spring (2.3). 5. Put the position indicators near the angle piece (2.4), they will be moved automatically to the maximum stroke to show the valve actuating position Mounting the Actuator Fig

4 WIRING All wiring must comply with local electrical codes, ordinances and regulations. Voltage and frequency of the transformer used with the actuator must correspond with the power supply and actuator characteristics. See Fig. 4 for typical wiring hookups. 1. Feed power and control wires through the conduit connector located on the bottom of the actuator case. CAUTION: Equipment Damage Hazard. Conduit connection or removal can break an unsupported connector. When removing or attaching conduit, use a wrench to support the motor connector. The local electrical regulations must be complied with. Make sure to put 24 Vac power cords through the EMI suppression ferrite core that supply with the actuator. 2. Using the wiring diagram in Fig. 4 connect power and control wires. Make sure that all wiring is correct. 3. Check the DIP switch for proper settings. 4. When wiring is complete, replace the actuator cover. 5. Apply power and control signals to the actuator. Wiring for ML5720A Fig. 4 OPERATION General In the actuator, the drive of a synchronous motor is converted into the linear motion of the actuator stem by using a spur gear transmission. A button retainer clip connects the actuator stem to the valve stem. Signal Input () Connect the analog input signal to terminal 3() and terminal 2(Common). The analog input signal range can be changed by DIP switch Pos. 4, which is factory set the range to 0 to 10 Vdc. Changing the DIP switch Pos.4 sets the range to 2 to 10 Vdc. Actuator Override Connect the override control signal (SPST) to terminal 6 and terminal 1(24 Vac), the spindle will fully extends or fully retracts depend on DIP switch setting. The control signal () is ignored when the override signal is applied to terminal 1 and 6. This override can be achieved with a switch or a relay. Output Signal Feedback (U) An analog output signal (0 to 5 Vdc) that represents the actual actuator stem position is available at terminal 5(U). It can be used for remote indication of the stem position. When the actuator stem is fully downward, the output signal is 5 Vdc. When the valve stem is up, the output signal is 0 Vdc. The output of the feedback signal will be reversed when the actuator is used to reversed action. Direction of Action The direction of the actuator action can be changed by DIP switch Pos. 1, which is factory set so that the actuator drives the valve stem down on increasing signal and draws the valve stem up on decreasing signal. The output of the signal does not change when DIP switch Pos. 1 is used to reverse the actuator action

5 Manual Operation The actuators are equipped with a manual operator knob to open or close the valve in the event of power failure: DIP Switch Setting The DIP switch setting as control function required, details as page 6 description. 1. Turn off or disconnect the power supply before manually operating the actuator. 2. Push down on the manual operator knob and turn the knob: a. Counterclockwise to drive the spindle retracting. b. Clockwise to drive the spindle extending. On Off S1 IMPORTANT: Manual operation allows very high closing force that can jam the actuator spindle, exceed the force switch ratings, and stop the motor. After a manual valve close-off operation, release the spindle one turn by turning the manual operator knob. This will ensure automatic disengagement of the manual operator upon power resumption. If the manual operator knob is not pushed in while turned, it will rotate only a short distance before disengaging without power resumption. Auxiliary Switch The Auxiliary Switch can be used on the ML5720A series Electric Linear Valve Actuators. The Auxiliary Switch setting by S1 potential-meter to desire position to activate the position relay output. Check the valve position and make sure that 24 Vac is correctly applied to the actuator. 2. Apply the power to the appropriate lead wires to move the valve. 3. If the actuator does not move, make sure the actuator is properly installed and wired. 4. If the actuator installation and wiring are both correct and the actuator does not run, replace the actuator. Controller Checkout 1. Adjust the setpoint of the controller to call for opening the valve. Observe the actuator If the valve is closed, it should begin to open. If the valve remains closed, move the setpoint further toward the open setting. 0 1 S If the valve does not move, check for 24 Vac in the actuator power input. If 24 Vac is present and the actuator does not operate, check the voltage across the controller lead wires to determine if the device is miswired.
