1 SOLARWATT ENERGY MANAGER AS AN OPTIMIZER SHORT GUIDE EN QUICK INSTALLATION GUIDE SOLARWATT ENERGY MANAGER AS AN OPTIMIZER FOCUS: HEATING ELEMENT
2 SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS Intended use The Energy Manager has been built using state-of-the-art technology and generally recognized good engineering practices. However, when the device is used improperly or not as intended, damage to the device and other property can occur. The Energy Manager is used for energy management in a household. Any use differing from or exceeding this intended use is classed as unintended. The manufacturer/supplier is not liable for the resulting damages. The owner solely bears the risk. The intended use also requires compliance with the operating and installation manual and all other applicable documents. General safety instructions Installation of the Energy Manager may only be carried out by a recognized skilled technician. This person also assumes responsibility for the correct installation and commissioning. When working with the Energy manager, observe all safety instructions provided on the packaging and affixed to the device. Check to ensure that there is no damage to the device, the accessories and the mains adapter prior to commissioning and on a regular basis during operation. In case of doubt, have an electrician inspect the equipment to ensure that it is sound. If there is any damage to the Energy Manager or repairs are needed, this may only be entrusted to authorized persons. Ensure that the appropriate mains adapter is used and that the mains voltage of the unit matches the mains voltage in your country. The Energy Manager should only be operated with the supplied mains adapter. With use of a different 24 V mains adapter, the manufacturer/supplier shall not be held liable for any resulting damages. Do not open the Energy Manager or the mains adapter! Removal of or damage to the housing can expose live parts and impair the function of the equipment. Avoidance of damage to the Energy Manager The Energy Manager features a protection rating of IP20 and is only suitable for installation in dry, dust-free indoor areas. Protect the unit against dust, damp, moisture, aggressive substances and vapor. The ambient temperature must lie between -10 C and +50 C. Do not touch any electronic components or connections on the energy Manager, because this can cause damage or destruction of equipment. Ground before working on the device. When connecting the mains adapter, ensure that the mains adapter is not placed in a warm environment in the immediate vicinity of a cold environment and ensure sufficient temperature equalization. Commissioning when there is condensation on the equipment entails life-threatening danger! If the Energy Manager or mains adapter is damaged or destroyed, it must be decommissioned immediately by a qualified expert. Only operate the Energy Manager when the device is in technically sound condition. Always contact a qualified technician when there are error messages on the device. Data security In order to be able to utilize the full scope of functions of the Energy Manager, the device should be connected to the local network and the internet. Although the communication channel between the Energy manager and the internet services is secured using state-of-the-art technology, connection to the network/internet entails security risks: Third parties can gain access to your network and misuse your energy data. Please proceed cautiously, as you would to protect the data on your computer, by using passwords to enable access to your network. Protection of your personal energy data has the highest priority. The Energy Manager platform is continuously updated to state-of-the-art security technology in order to guarantee that energy data can only be viewed by the owner and authorized participants. The data collected by the Energy Manager can differ from the data of the electric meter. The Energy Manager data is not suitable for billing purposes. 3 A-SOLARWATT ENERGY MANAGER The Energy Manager records the solar energy and the overall household consumption with the aim of switching on specific devices when there is a surplus of energy. On installation, the standard wiring of the Energy Meter is used for measuring the entire household consumption. With an additional reading of the inverter, the mains supply and/or mains feed of the household can be determined with a simple equation. When a bidirectional meter is used, the necessary data is measured directly and factored in. Example of standard wiring with Energy Meter Mains supply and/or mains feed = solar energy - consumption PV-Anlage SOLARWATT Energy Manager S0/RS485 kwh S0? kwh Netzanschlusspunkt Energy Meter B-THE OPTIMIZER To increase the proportion of internally generated PV energy, the Energy Manager provides the so-called Optimizer. This is an application within the Energy Portal. The user has the option of activating devices when there is a surplus of PV energy (mains feed). For this purpose, it is possible to configure the desired devices individually and to define an activation sequence (prioritization). Example prioritization of devices Individual sequence Device Power consumption [W] Individual activation threshold [W] 1 Heat pump 2,000 1,000 2 Heating element 4,000 4,000 3 Immersion pump 1,500 1,500 VERSION: 02/2016 AZ-TM-PME-771 SHORT GUIDERev. 000 Subject to changes 2016 SOLARWATT GmbH PAGE 3
4 The figure shows an example of how a specific consumer is set up in the ENERGY MANAGEMENT for the Optimizer. Specification of the peak power and the average power are provided for orientation in the setup. An entry must be made under activation threshold (C). A C E B D F A B C D Highest energy value recorded by the Energy Manger over the last seven days Average power consumption from the last seven days Individual value to be adjusted. If this value is reached, the Energy Manager issues the activation signal. If the value is undercut again, the Energy Manger cancels the signal again. (Entry of the value is mandatory) If the activation threshold is undercut within the minimum operating time, the signal remains active. This should prevent a high number of switching process, e.g. to spare the switches of motors or compressors. E F After the activation signal has been canceled, the consumer is excluded from the optimization for this period. This should prevent a high number of switching process, e.g. to spare the switches of motors or compressors. Time window during which the consumer should participate in the optimization.
