4 Objective of the Action Overall objective: To contribute to the improvement of aviation safety in Africa, taking also into consideration nonaviation applications of satellite navigation, thus contributing to economic and social development in Africa Specific objective: To accelerate the adoption and development in Africa of satellite-based augmentation systems (SBAS) based on the European EGNOS programme, primarily for the benefit of the civil aviation sector in order to improve safety and flight efficiency at acceptable costs.

16 Conclusion: future Outlook of JPO EGNOS in Africa Support programme is in line with the objectives of AU Agenda 2063, enabling a safe sky across Africa and establishing the Single Africa Air Transport Market (SAATM) The AUC therefore welcomes the contribution of EGNOS in Africa in securing flights across the Continent at the 1st AU STC TIIIET in Lomé, AUC STC Lomé Declaration Recommended : ( ) The AUC to establish a Continental Cost benefit study and strategy on the implementation of the SBAS project in Africa, taking into consideration existing initiatives in the implementation of EGNOS in Africa ; ( ) The Ministerial Declaration took into account, inter alia "The progress made in the implementation of EGNOS in Africa project and capacity building of the Joint Project Office (JPO)" The outcomes of the 1st STC- TTIIET will be forwarded to the forthcoming Summit of the AU Assembly for consideration and adoption. JPO is an adequate Partner for ACAC with regards to SBAS/EGNOS continental planning in Africa 16
