8 Configurations Needed by end-2009 for 1) identifying locations for RFI measurements 2) input for external consultant on infrastructure costs Task Force established, Rob Millenaar chair Kick-off meeting, March 09 Is generating configurations for multiple cores, intermediate region (out to ~200 km), and remote stations (out to 3000 km) Draft specifications for no-go areas under discussion with sites (RFI, geographic (water, slopes), geological, etc) 2005 site submissions provide starting points for remote site locations Extensive iteration with sites and SWG have taken place

10 RFI monitoring Late delivery of the spectrometer (ROACH Board delay). Deployment of RFI stations expected early Measurements to start in late January 2010 at both core sites using identical equipment. ASKAP and MeerKAT construction will cease during RFI measurements at core sites to avoid corrupting the results. Remote sites for RFI monitoring (4x) will be chosen to test EMC from population centres, effects of terrain shielding, and accuracy of propagation modelling for distant transmitters.

11 Industry participation Gather information from Precursors/Pathfinders/ Design Studies on their industry relationships and relevant government policies Map and verify potential global industry players Investigate current best practice models for industry participation Harmonise approach of regions to development and networking of industry capability for the SKA Analyse WTO principles, and country / regional / international models for procurement (PrepSKA WP5) Design and create industry database - proof-of -concept ongoing Develop IP strategy for the SKA project SSEC3 paper

15 SKA2010 When: March 2010 Where: SPDO at U Manchester Purpose: Annual SKA Science-Engineering Meeting to discuss 1) the latest astronomical results in SKA-relevant areas 2) the status of engineering studies for the SKA systems and sub-systems, and 3) design/science trade-off issues for the SKA The results of these discussions are likely to have substantial impact on the direction of the SKA project.
