26 Taiwan 4G+ experimental network On August 6, the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) has established a 4G+ experimental network worth of NT$1 billion (US$31.6 million; US$1=NT$31.67) to help Taiwanese vendors reduce testing costs and shorten product time to market for mobile phones, chipsets, small cells and so on. Under the MOEA's sponsorship, the experimental network consists of three divisions separately operated by the government-sponsored, the Institute for Information Industry, and the government-run National. Ericsson, Nokia, Alcatel-Lucent, NEC and Rohde & Schwarz will provide testing equipment and Chunghwa Telecom and Far Eastern Telecommunications will provide service testing platforms for the network, MOEA said. The network will be used to undertake testing on 17 frequency bands across FDD LTE, TDD LTE and FDD+TDD LTE, by the end of

Research and Innovation Actions Cooperation in access convergence This activity takes advantage of the supporting 5G research and demonstration facilities offered by Taiwan towards collaborative 5G research with the EU, and aims at developing and demonstrating an integrated convergent access across different air interface technologies and the fronthaul/backhaul/core network. Test beds making use of facilities offered by Taiwanese partners are targeted. It demonstrates the capabilities of new spectrum access schemes, including for coworking with the network. A system demonstrator showing applications potential is thus favoured, e.g. for high speed moving vehicles. The Commission considers that proposals requesting a contribution from the EU of EUR 2.5 million would allow this area to be addressed appropriately. Nonetheless, this does not preclude submission and selection of proposals requesting other amounts. 27
